Any figures for the respective attendances?

Well, Cambridge and Exeter have played blinders there and managed to lose without too many problems...or injuries one would suspect! I've got a feeling that other top sides will follow suit today.

1309 at Cambridge with 102 from Rushden.

1009 at Exeter. The official Exeter website front page heading is 'City thankfully bow out of the Setanta Shield at the first hurdle injury free and cardless'!

continues....

'in a game it would appear no one wanted to win in a meaningless competition no one really cares about'

'Pre season friendlies have been played with more vigour, altho given the esteem this ridiculous competition is held in they prob have more significacnce'

'Ive never been happy to report a City defeat but in this instance Im absolutely delighted were out of the Setanta SHield and have avoided an unnecessary fixture backlog later in the season'

How I will piss myself Exeter when you limp home in 8th place about 10 points off the play offs, you'll be scrabbling round for games

'Boxing Day is a chance to forget the low key nonsense we endured this evening with its dictatorial rules and insignificant guise. Goodbye for at least a season Setanta Shield, you wont be missed'

May these words forever haunt you Exter. When you approach your 9th season in the conference and everyone in the football league has forgotten about you and all your concentrating on a league return has lead you to miss out on Trophys and Shields, and Setanta have long gone due to your attitude you'll long for the days when somebody at least was interested in your club.

By losing this game, Exeter have arguably given themselves a better chance of avoiding limping home in 8th place. Obviously there is no guarantee that this is true, but surely the probability of them being successful has risen substantially now that they have a few weekends off? They might as well just call it the commercial cup, or satellite shield, for I don't believe the majority of participants could give a flying f*** whether they are in it, or not. It's a shame in some respects, but totally understandable.

Im absolutely perplexed by that match report on their OFFICIAL site. Theres no way setanta should let them get away with that kind of journalism. Setanta have thrown a fair few grand their way this season and doubtlessly would have thrown many more.

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you! I can see Exeter being largely absent from Setanta live games unless that report is taken down. Im sure alty will gladly pick up the pieces and get more live coverage, not to mention 2500 quid towards our playing budget!
