Guiseley have announced the signing of versatile winger Nicky Clee and the contract renewal of young forward Luke Porritt as preparations for a second National League campaign step up a gear.

Clee, 32, follows Michael Rankine to Nethermoor from Altrincham where he spent seven successful years and became a fans’ favourite during his time at Moss Lane.

Known to be a skilful winger with an eye for goal, Lions boss Mark Bower said; “Nicky has come to us on an appearance based deal and turned down more security elsewhere for the chance to prove himself with us at National League level.

He’s a very gifted footballer with a great left foot and can play in numerous positions. We’re pleased Nicky has decided to join us and we feel he will be a real asset to the team for the coming season.”

Really sad but glad he's gone to Guiseley and not a Conf North team.

I wish you all the best for the future Nick.

Can play in numerous positions? Debatable.

All the best Nicky. In my eyes an Altrincham hero and I hope he has a great season with them.

I think left back and left wing back he certainly can and he ripped Chester to pieces from the right flank the other season.

If anyone knows why that formation with him and Crowther was never played again after beating Chester 4-1 do let me know...

Anyway, it's a real good move for Nicky and I hope he does well. Let's be clear, unlike others there's a lad who owes us absolutely nothing! Good luck Nicky.

And whilst I'm happy with the two young wingers we've got I'd feel a lot better if we picked up Rothery or Boshell (N) as well.

Just was the best winger since Showler, shame we couldn't just see how his pre season went and maybe offered him a pay as you play wage. He still has all the ability but fair play that Young has cleared out all our sick notes. Just maybe would have given Clee a chance.

Should have kept him.
We pay money to keep him while he's recuperating, then when he recovers we get rid! Ridiculous.
If he only plays half a season he would have been worth keeping. Best player we've had here in years!!

Big call by NY releasing Nicky, but as has been discussed previously no-one knows his injury issues more than our back room team. A fit Clee is a class act and if a regular last season would've seen us stay up - comfortably.
