Torquay (H): Match thread & predictions
« on: January 16, 2015, 12:57:29 PM »

Imagine someone telling you ten games into the season that we'd be three points behind Torquay when this fixture came around.

Not only is a that a representative of our good form, but also their slide down the table. They're without a Conference win in five games, and come here on the back of three successive draws in the league. They've also achieved just one away win in their last ten attempts. Their Trophy win over Bromley will have provided a bit of respite though and they've got pretty much a full squad to select from.  We should be a tough nut to crack providing we play up to our recent standard, which I expect considering our record against the "better teams." I fancy the draw here.

Going even further back, Torquay have just 2 league wins from their last 12, and 3 (Barnet, Eastleigh and Halifax) wins from last 16. 15 points from a possible 48 - that's bobbins form. I fancy us to do them 2-0, a la Eastleigh.

Gut feel again  0 - 0.

I cannot see us losing this one at all.

Good game all round with plenty of decent football, but generally two sides nullifying each other.

We are not scoring many, but we are now solid at the back.

1-0 could go either way.

I'm going for a 2-0 home win and the Alty TV / Radio Robins team to beat The Players, Management and TASC teams in the Question of Sport Quiz in the Community Hall after the match.

You don't have to be the Brain of Sport to take part.

The rounds are

Round 1 - Guess The Year
Round 2 - Tunes With Sporting Connections
Round 3 - 60 Second Round
Round 4 - Mystery Guest Round and
Round 5 - Picture Board Round

In addition to replace the Home or Away Round there will be a 'Joker' where each team can elect to play their Joker before any of the first 4 rounds that will double their score on that round.

Tickets are £5.00 in advance or £6.00 on the night and include a hotpot supper at half time |(in the quiz that is not the match !)

If you'd like take part and reserve a ticket in advance for £5.00 as opposed to £6.00 on the night please PM me on here with confirmation of how many tickets you would like.

There is no limit on the size of teams although a handicap system will be in operation whereby a point will be deducted from the final score for each team member. i.e a team of four has 4 points deducted , a team of eight 8 points deducted etc.

In addition there will be a raffle and other competitions.

Anyone not wishing to take part in the quiz is welcome to come along to lend their support.

Heard on Radio Devon at 1300 today one of their centre backs is only 50/50 to play due to injury

My prediction : P-P Snow.

You're just downbeat because Hamilton have lost their player-manager!

Can't make it tomorrow......so we'll win (only home game I've missed this season is Braintree so it speaks for itself).

2-1 Alty. Gate of 1056. 70 away fans. And even I will be there for a rare Saturday home game for me.

Hardly any chat I could see on the Torquay forums about the game. They seem in downbeat mood. Compared to a lot of the ex FL sides that have come down they are a pretty small outfit.  It might be a while before they get back up.
