Stockport 21/20
Draw 12/5
Alty 19/10
Hopeful young jones is fit.
-
Alty massively the value there then, worth a tenner I’d say.
-
Always wanted to draw them in the cup in late 70s and early 80s but never did .I expect a close game and really hope its not a case of playing well but just falling short .county 2 alty 1
-
We're definitely the value, but I won't be touching it.
Same starting 11 as last Saturday. If we can be level (or even better in front) after an hour, the County faithful are going to be mighty restless . Hopefully this will transend to their players. Can definitely see us getting at least a draw and we'll score at least 1.
County 1-2 Alty (Hulme, Harrop).
Looking forward to it
-
Really looking forward to this. I suppose it has to be the same starting 11. Really hope Jones is fit, he has really impressed me since arriving at Alty. The huge bonus is that he is a young centre back who keeps improving.
We have a strong squad and shouldn't fear them. I hope we don't approach the game reserved. I feel we are far more dangerous to teams when we allow our full backs to get high up the pitch. Allows JJ and Dale to get in more dangerous positions as Dale was on Saturday.
Come on lads.
-
I think the big pitch there will suit us a treat. Highlights of Stockport v Hereford here, far from a classic

2-2 (JJ pen, Harrop). Could be feisty out there, we need to finish with 11 on the pitch.
Attendance 3197
-
I am more confident about this game than I was going into the Bradford game, although a draw would be perfectly acceptable between two teams with similar records.
From working in Stockport, I get the feeling there will be a very good crowd - 3500 or so.
-
Looking forward to this game, should be a great atmosphere. Come on Alty. Hoping for an Alty win.

Jones has always been very promising and I'm delighted he's now showing that potential - I never would have thought last season that we'd cope with missing Harrison.
When was the last time we played Stockport in the FA Cup? In fact, have we EVER played them?

Our paths have never crossed in national Cup competitions - only ever in the benighted Cheshire Senior Cup, and once in the Cheshire League Cup. In these cases we played their reserves; the CSC fixture in 2011-12 was nominally a 1st XI game but neither side was at full strength.

Interestingly they've got a thread going with a poll for who'd they'd like in the next round.
Over the past 3/4 years I've seen us go to EP and afford County far too much respect. It won't be like that with this Alty team, I don't think. Saturday could be anything but I wouldn't be at all surprised if we blew them out of the water. Nothing to fear.
2-2 - Harrop and Hulme.

Exactly this-have we even scored a goal there? It’s basically two mid-table (and I suspect that’s where we’ll both finish) sides with a great chance to make the first round proper. Going by our recent performance and goalscoring record I suspect we have more momentum going into this one then they do. I think we can and will shade it, gutted I can’t make it.
-
I think that a great game is in prospect. The last time I was at Edgeley Park, we didn't register a single shot on target. I think they might be a bit surprised by us.
-
According to the stockport forum they are already voting on who they want in the next round ? is there any point us turning up since they are a super massive club that will obviously beat us .
-
Come on boys we can do this

Tom Hannigan has scored there for Fylde in 15/16.

How many will the Robins bring? My guess is 400-450. This ongoing train situation on the Chester-Manchester line on weekends and then the tram being up the spout this weekend too is a proper pain. Suspect that might knock off at least 50-100, just the lack of convenience.

250-300.

Unfortunately drink driving isn’t allowed!

Gave them 2 soft of the softest goals and didn't test their keeper anything like enough.
Bossed the 1st half without looking likely to convert. Still in the game ,then Williams goes off (who was excellent) , they score a gift and that's that.

Yeah Williams and Harrop were dictating play. Max went off the boil after his stupid yellow. Add that to all the stupid yellows our team pick up.
-
Wrong to bring unfit Poole on. 598 in away end chief Steward said to me on way out.
Poor second hAlf and not enough players wanting it. Real shame as I thought they were poor.
-
Better side for 40 minutes, then totally imploded. Williams a massive loss. I'd have hooked JJ after an hour. Totally ineffective.
Their physical approach in the second half changed it more than anything. Very disappointed tonight.
-
Great support from the robins
Must say the Stockport steward set up was shambolic- did they expect Bracknell or something turning up?
-
Agreed with comments above game of two halves, we knocked the ball around well in the first half and created a couple of chances, but in the second half Stockport controlled the game.
Some decent performances early on From Harrop, Hampson and Williams.
Don’t agree with the comments about JJ, I thought he worked really hard today, I am not sure anyone was really effective in the second half, we didn’t have a decent shot on target.
The caution for Jordan was comical the Stockport player pulled him to the ground before he complained.
Maybe unlucky in the first half, but I thought overall Stockport were much the better team today.
-
My first game of the season and, alas, I found it to be a dispiriting experience.
Stockport's 1-0 lead at half-time was unmerited, however the second half amounted to nothing more than a meek capitulation by Alty and it could have easily ended up as a 4-0 defeat.
It was one-dimensional stuff from Parkinson and there seems to be a complete absence of a Plan B.
Both Dale and Johnston were frail, lightweight and unproductive and Hulme was left outnumbered and condemned to plough a thankless furrow.
Williams was doing quite well, however his replacement Poole was anonymous. Harrop appears to have plenty of skill but he does seem to overcomplicate matters unnecessarily.
Not impressed by either Jones or Hannigan. Indeed, County just looked more physically imposing than us.
That was an instance of a huge opportunity being tamely squandered.

Pretty sure they were monitoring the number of arriving fans and as soon as was necessary moved the netting along. Why they have home fans in that stand at all beats me when the Cheadle end is a quarter full.

652 according to Twitter , we haven't scored in our last 3 games at county ! lets hope this changes on Boxing Day.
-
Gutted about that - they were average and naturally scored the one time they got the ball into put box following a couple of minutes of pressure before that. We played some lovely stuff prior to that, but never really threatened enough.
Not sure why Dale was hooked before JJ - the latter really wasn't at the races.

Compare and contrast with the way that we allow away teams free reign of Moss Lane.

A worthy write up, disappointing though it may be to read, and a pleasure to see such poetic prose put to good effect. I doff my cap, sir.

Yep.

We dominated for the first half hour, passed the ball well and it was a shame that Andy White couldn’t score with only the keeper to beat. If that went in I think we’d be in the hat for the first round. In the second half we never really looked like scoring and in cup games when it’s tight you have to stay in the game and not give away such soft goals. We are definitely conceding too many goals and we need to work out why.
Thought Sean Williams and Connor Hampson were superb.
-
Think the support today was absolutely superb, 600+ Well done to us all for turning out in great numbers.
I hope Phil, learns from today, we need a better plan B. He is still a young learning manager and so are most of the players.
-
We were fabulous in the first half. Some of my Stockport friends in the home end couldn't believe they were ahead at the interval. However, one or two half chances apart, we never really looked like scoring. Their 5 and 6 were superb and their full backs weren't bad either. They restricted us to long range efforts and though we dominated possession, we never really looked like scoring. They did score and from then on it was always going to be difficult for us. They were better than us in the second half and probably should have won by more (though that would have been cruel). Harrison and Wynne need to be recalled to the team. TT and JJ have done well, but they're not in the same league as the other two. Stocky defended better than us, they deserve to be in the next round and I sincerely wish them well. As others have said, Sean Williams and Connor Hampson were our best players today. Onwards and upwards, the Robins...
-
Cult's post pretty much sums it up.
We had a good first half, forced a couple of saves but the second goal was a daft soft one that killed us off.
Would like to see both Wynne & Harrison back in the starting 11.
Stockport were in the play-offs last year, we've just come back up: our young management team will learn more going forward.
Great turnout & support from the away fans.

Harrison is a million miles away from starting.
-
I actually thought Hannigan and Jones did well today. Their threat was often out wide. The first goal came from a cross that we handed to them by not clearing our lines, White (who played well )then should have got up and prevented the lad from heading it down. Thompson was non existent for the tap in.
The second came from a poor back pass,I think it was Hampson who was superb first half but didn't do great second half. Again Thompson was poor, flying off his line and committing himself to the ground far too early. Player then easily took it around him for another tap in.
Harrison is coming back from a knee injury and is miles of starting.
-
Ah OK, cheers, that explains the Harrison situation, thought he was our best CB last season.

In many ways a summation of our season so far. They didn't have to do much to score either goal, our game plan is overly dependent on Hulme receiving to feet and when the ref decides he's the offender we've no Plan B. We clearly played the better football until 0-2 and our toothless display afterwards suggests Sean Williams' ability to retain possession high up the pitch and allow pressure to be built is underestimated by many (me included). Much is said about players learning to adapt to a higher level of football, I think that can be said of our management today.
-
Gannon had his Stockport team incredibly well drilled and they negated all of our main threats - even during the opening 30/40 mins of Alty dominance I can only recall two decent chances to score. We had to create those for ourselves, Stockport gave us nothing.
With 60 minutes gone in the game and it looking quite obvious that Stockport had our number, it does confuse me as to why we continued to play in the same manner for the final 30.
Contrast how hard we had to work to create a chance with the soft first and gift of a second.
We were never the same after Williams went off.

We wouldn't if we were expecting a crowd that size. Different when there's only forty away fans.

Highlights on Countys' Facebook page.
Hard watch
-
One thing to come out of the highlights for me is the performance of Tony Thompson. He didn’t cover himself in glory with their second, spilled the free-kick for the (mysteriously) disallowed goal and could easily have given away a penalty for a brainless rush off his line.
Wynne got dropped for far less.

Absolutely agree, the rush off the line was mental and I heard someone say it had done that earlier in the season for a pen.
Maybe trying to keep bo of them hungry but it didn't pay off on Saturday.

I was quite impressed with their keeper when called upon. Solid, commanding, HUGE kick and good decision making too. Can make a massive difference at this level.
-
Goalkeeper is our weakest position. Wynne may still be a work in progress, but had looked decent before the game at Kidderminster, where making an awful error so early in the game seemed to affect him. I prefer him to Thompson, who seems to suffer a rush of blood to the head a shade too often for comfort.
-
excellent win for them today at yeovil. let's hope they get to the third round and go into the boxing day and new year's games thoroughly distracted.
