Released by wrexham, up front with reeves anyone?
-
Unless he goes back to Hednesford, who appear to be having a bit of a shake-up...
-
Released by wrexham, up front with reeves anyone?
No.
-
Why not? Because you probably nominated him knobsock of the year at sometime
-
He's a player we should definateley be looking at IMO to replace Gillespie.
-
Look, this lads a super player. If he's considering going back part time or even dropping into the conference north with Tamworth then we simply have to get on the case with him and see if we'll come.
He is technically good enough to play up front, behind the striker and (a bit less effectively) on either flank. The way we play, a player like that is arguably more important than an out and out centre forward.
And anyone who would object to it is either an oddball or seeking attention.
-

Well said jimmy
-
I believe he was on a couple of grand a week. Possibly too pricey for us ...
-
He can't demand that at a semi pro side though I tend to agree someone will pay him a fair wage

I'm no attention seeker, but I could be an oddball. I don't like his attitude and the way he plays the game. He's a decent Conference North player, just like Sean Williams. If he was better than that he'd be staying at Wrexham.
-
So if someone spends a lot of a season injured that's it they are not confrence standard in reality he would walk into the Alty team

I agree. On the evidence of his antics when playing against us for Hednesford I would not be happy to see him in an Alty shirt. If that makes me an oddball, so be it.
-
That would have ruled out Kyle Perry ever playing for Altrincham.
-
And Chris denham, Rod Thornley and James Walshaw.
I refer the right honourable gentlemen to the words of one
Captain John Partrick Mason, Her Majesty's Special Air Sevice (Retired), The Rock 1996..

I agree with your comment however what did thornley or even walshaw do wrong

They did nothing wrong, but were partial to a bit of gamesmanship
-
They did nothing wrong, but were partial to a bit of gamesmanship
Durrell did nothing wrong either and I'd love him here.
If anything, he did exactly what I'd want my players to do in his situation. If I remember rightly he put in a mistimed tackle on one of our players and then scored moments later. He gave us opposition fans a bit back after getting big time grief for it? I'd much rather that than a player who goes quiet. Completely backed up his arrogance because he was quality. He's been injured most of this season and I do believe he's still up to this level, he's not had enough of a chance yet.
-
His goal in the play-off semi first leg last year was exceptional.

That was Danny glover

Andy bishop would be a great addition, even at 32
http://www.dailypost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/andy-bishop-leaves-wrexham-fc-9290746
-
According to a telford fan we are keen on Poku, bishop has to have been on at least 1.5k a week
-
Yes but you can't get over a grand a week if your not pro which he may not be after Wrexham If he is available I'd ask him will you pay for what we can afford if he says it's no then fair enough
-
According to a telford fan we are keen on Poku, bishop has to have been on at least 1.5k a week
I did wonder about Poku. Rangy, athletic midfielder seemed to have a good game away at Telford when they beat us although I can't place him too much beyond that. Thought he'd be on our radar.
Think Bishop would fit us well actually but it must be difficult. If he was on what Toff says and then at 32 is faced with getting half that at best it's a very difficult choice. At 32 you should be moving into good wages not out of them.

Depends what else he's got work wise, or is likely to get. Decent part time pay plus reasonable pay from a coaching role (didn't Colin Little do that?) could work for him. At 32 he's not got much ahead of him time wise as a player which does concern me should we sign him.
-
Yes but we certainly wouldnt be able to afford a younger bloke who could score as many as bishop
-
Ross Hannah released by Grimsby, another one id like to think was on our radar, decent age also
-
Bishop rumored to be going to tranmere
-
We don't want Bishop.
We might as well have kept Kyle Perry!!
-
Bishop has always notoriously been paid high wages (I assume a factor in his release). But an enquiry wouldn't hurt, he could do a job for a year.
I genuinely think we stand a good chance of landing Tony Gray (especially given how he's been quoted), and therefore he MUST be our number 1 target.
A few people mentioning Poku from Telford - he's London-based and would be moving closer to home if he did leave.
-
Even though he's London born I wouldn't necessarily rule Poko out as he's spent the majority of his football career north of Birmingham.
-
I'd prefer Ross Hannah over bishop and gray
-
Gray is a proven 20-goal a season Conference striker, so he MUST be our number 1 transfer target. I still think Durrell would complement Reeves better though. Don't know much about Ross Hannah, but I would guess that he didn't start too many times for Grimsby last season - very gettable though and as others have said, a good age. It'll be interesting to see who we end up with, 2 places to fill remember. Maybe, they'll just take one striker and take a punt on an extra pacey midfielder instead, Mahon (Chester), Deacey...
-
I'll be surprised if Hannah doesn't get a full time gig somewhere with his scoring record and I'll be even more surprised if Gray doesn't end up at Stalybridge!
-
Despite the link with Watson staylebridge can not compete with us in wages which would be more important if both clubs wanted him
-
Despite the link with Watson staylebridge can not compete with us in wages which would be more important if both clubs wanted him
I agree, fortunately for us I think Stalybridge are simply too sh*t an option for him right now after a good season in the Prem. But we'll see.
-
Wrexham sign Moke, not that I would have bothered, 1 good game in 5
-
I think Gray is a similar player to reeves and also 31 so he may not be on the radar. I suspect given other deficiencies we may have to address them rather than adding another poacher.
That said, who wouldn't want a striker with a good goal scoring record and I suspect we're more likely to be shopping in the tony Gray market rather than the Bishop/Hannah one.
-

Had 2 good games out of 3 against us in fairness.

A bit naive of me but I thought he may have come back to alty.

Bradford PA? Good grief.

Why the surprise? He's only gone from Harrogate to BPA. Given the reasons he went to Harrogate in the first place and that BPA have a bit of cash there's no real difference travel/standard/money/location wise.

Absolutely. He has plenty of choice of clubs local to him at the level he wishes to play - i.e. Conf North - & will no doubt have taken up the best offer.
-
Bradford PA sign Walshaw
I called it correctly a few weeks ago :)
Not surprised by this one at all - I'm more surprised people thought he'd come back here despite the fact his circumstances hadn't changed whatsoever. About as much chance of Chris Senior coming back.

Still best to keep any transfer speculation in one place, could ask toffee haddock to change the title
-
Interestingly Halifax are in talks with Dan Maguire, the striker from Blyth that (along with Robbie Dale) caused us all sorts of grief
Should we be looking at players like him potentially? I'm always sceptical about signing players that have done well against us (e.g. Mwasile)
-

Has Dan Gardner been released by Chesterfield. He would 100% hit the mark of what we need (creative, goal scoring, penalty taking midfielder)?

Good call Ballers would be an excellent recruit.
Probably keen on remaining full time though so will probably end up at Wrexham or even Barrow.

In 2006 the Motor Insurers' Bureau named West Gorton as the worst place in the UK for uninsured cars, with over six times the national average of drivers living there having no cover. However the MIB press release of 24 September 2009 stated that Barkerend in Bradford was then the worst place for uninsured drivers with Manchester the second worst city. The MIB do not reveal checkable details of the methods used to calculate the figures.
More recently some parts of Gorton have suffered from serious deprivation, which has resulted in high crime levels and burglary. The first four series of popular television series Shameless, which is shown on Channel 4 was mainly filmed in West Gorton. The parade of shops used for filming in the initial series was built on the site of St. Mark's Church, Clowes Street – the birthplace of Manchester City F.C.
The teenager Jordan Brennan died after being attacked outside a grocer's store in Gorton on 10 March 2014.

Tony Gray now confirmed as leaving Telford - quoted as saying the location has become an issue, and he's got a couple of options closer to home
I sincerely hope we're one of those options.
-
He's apparently been offered a hangar full of money by Airbus.
I'm not sure that's much closer to home though.

I went to a game at Airbus once. Bit surprised there were only five stewards, but at least they knew where all the exits were.

Did the changing rooms have everything stored in the overhead lockers?

Is that the captain's announcement before the stewardess does the safety drill?

First preseason game is in 41 days, I'd assume we'll see some movement this next week with contracts coming to an end.
Still need a couple of forwards and a couple of midfielders in my opinion

Tony Gray joins Airbus UK, not overly bothered myself, he's had one good season in five years

I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed - Wally had one or two off-seasons before he joined us (and has by all accounts had another one this season as well).
Doesn't leave many other obvious candidates now - let's see which rabbits Lee manages to pull out of the hat.
-
Do you not think he's a similar player to Reeves?
-
Obviously an ambitious chap.
-
I think there's plenty better available, if he wants to jog round a roped off field behind an airport for a decent salary I can't say I blame him at 31.
http://www.footballgroundguide.com/wales/airbus-uk/
You can get to the vast majority of wpl grounds within two hours from Manchester and Liverpool so I can see why it would be attractive to the lad. I personally can set the bar a litgle higher forward wise

Hannah and Padraig Almond are better options but its a case of who else after them ?
-
Or, Lee might want to stick to 4-5-1 and be prioritising attacking midfielders such as Durrell over a second out-and-out striker. Although of course we need to bring in cover, having lost both Perry and Gillespie.

Which would leave us screwed if Damian got crocked. I think at least one striker is needed.

My view precisely. I'd have preferred his partner Adam Farrell.....he's likely to terrorise the North defences having signed on for another year at Telford.
-
still thinking bishop myself
-
Shaun Whalley ( more of a wide man ) has always impressed me , released by Luton, probably stay full time though.

On paper I thought Walshaw was a similar looking signing to Reeves - but that turned out OK (and yes I know they're different)
If we're looking for a realistic signing to compliment Reeves's game, whilst becoming the Kyle Perry-style scapegoat dividing fans, we should look at George Donnelly.
That's where the comparisons with Perry end - Donnelly runs defenders ragged, will loosen up more opportunities for Damian, but he couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo (whereas Kyle knew where the back of the net was)

Has always tended to stay down the east side of the country - and I'd be wary of signing a recent troublemaker
-
Whilst I don't condone alleged violence, I wouldn't say a 25 year old having a piss up and a punch up on a Saturday/Sunday night automatically qualifies you as a troublemaker
-
Yeh, I wouldn't sign John King, Graham Heathcote, Ken McKenna or Gerry Casey in their prime...
-
Been an incredible amount of transfer activity in the conference today, I don't recall a day when so many players have moved between clubs. hope we join the party soon.

Mnnnm I had hoped that we had completed some more business by now, plenty of time until the start of the season but when you see prime targets joining airbus...
-
Not overly bothered about Tony gray, however looking at previous years we've usually done more business by this date. The number of transfers in the conference and conference North must have been some sort of record yesterday. Still plenty of work to do, but clubs squads are taking shape now, and we did have 12 to start with so hopefully things will start to happen soon as it can't be long until we are back in training with the first friendly being 30 odd days away

He has scored 100 goals in 131 appearances in his career and was rumoured to be on 750 a week at Stockport. The County fans think he'll do the business at this level.
-
The statistic is flattering as he has scored most of his goals at curzon at a much lower level
-
Yeah, I agree with that, nonetheless it is an impressive goal to game ratio. He still had a better than 1 in 2 goal rate for a poor Stockport team who's midfield supplying him last season was apparently useless (and often not playing him as striker). I expect he won't be Macc's first choice anyway, they are rumoured to have a much improved budget and have released all the strikers (none of which scored more than 10) so that they can get better replacements.
-
I wonder if they will lie about the budget again first year we had in the confrence north reeves scored over 40 in a poor side

Gateshead release 11, any worth having?
http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/gateshead-offered-new-deals-12-9437781
-
Andrai Jones played well at right back when we played them last season and has improved considerably since we had him on loan from Bury a few years ago. Could offer some cover across the back four.
-
I think we're okay at the back with Scott Leather able to play either full back or centre half. Prefer him in the centre though so if Jones has improved that much and is local then yeh heard worse ideas.
-

We certainly need a defender as 5 isn't enough

Wrexham's goalkeeper Andy Coughlin, 22, signs for Southport
Surely the sort of signing Lee should have been earmarking as a long-term successor to Coburn - rather than just sticking someone else on the bench and going through the same thing next summer.

I saw that news on the BBC. I don't think I've seen the bloke play, but I'd like to believe we were aware of his availability and thought better of it, as opposed to being totally unaware.

Back in training this week, and first friendly in 21 days. I think this coming week should see some transfer activity, if previous years are anything to go by we usually have the bulk of the squad in place for preseason

Let's hope so, looking a long way short at the moment
-
I'd Hope to see four more coming in at least, manager said he likes to work with a squad of about 18/19 last season, so on that basis we'd have to expect at least 3 more coming in
-
Is Rob Gilroy still with us?
-
We need 4 more 18 is not enough
-
Is Rob Gilroy still with us?
I believe that he has some injury issues.
George Heslop would be the man to clarify this.
-
Players WILL come in, there is no doubt about that, however the question mark is around their calibre.
Hopefully we are looking to improve on the first team rather than bring in bench quality players.
-
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33190869 - Guiseley secure extensions for three, including Drench who I would have signed like a shot.
-
To be fair I'd like all 3 at alty but they are probably on better money at guiseley
-
According to the Messenger, Lee is "keeping his powder dry" so he can sign the players he wants nearer to the big kick off. Far be it from me to question how he does his job, but I do have reservations about blending new players into the mix so late in the day.

Powder dry? I hear this every summer!☺
-
And with that we signed cavanagh Just before the start of the season? Or are you referring to when we were hanging around waiting for Marc Joseph to decide if he was signing?
-
I still wish we'd kept Cav. We spent years moaning that the midfield had no bite. I thought we'd found a solution for at least a couple of seasons.
-
The only black mark against Cav was the number of yellow cards he was picking up, but I agree he was the kind of player we had craved for some time. I had hoped that we had someone already lined up given that we were so quick to release him, but perhaps he already had an eye on a coaching role, which meant Southport were able to offer him something we couldn't. We can only speculate really, but I sincerely hope we can replace him properly - we certainly need to as I don't believe we currently have another player in the squad who can do what he did.
-
Have you got a link to the article at all, we don't get the messenger delivered on regular basis
Sorry,no.
-
No worries, it's up on the main site now. I think most clubs are pretty relaxed at present after the early clamour, if you listen to the interview with Neil Young done this week, Stockport are looking at/talking to football league strikers. Certain indicators and certain players not pitching up anywhere yet tends to point to there being a surplus of players wanting to get a club. Maybe in a couple of weeks time there demands may be a bit more modest
-
Joe and Josh Thompson (no relation as far as I'm aware, but good mates by all accounts) both still available after being released by Tranmere
Joe plays RW, Josh can play CB or RB
We need a new bromance after Lee so cruelly sent Stubblemelt their separate ways...
