Re. Race 4 - The Players' Race:

Am I to assume that Justin Bowler is a non-runner in this one?

Coburn I would agree with, although seemed to get down slowly for the goal against us at Tampaxworth.

Colin is not the best forward in the league by a long way. Good but not really Donaldson is he and he is ageing and is Alty through and through. I also think Stuart is as well so hope both stay.

Chalmers I would agree isnt proven but people seem to be seeing something in him, I am sure under the right guidance he would prosper.

Lawton is good, I do think he is National player but initial control lets him down.

O'Neil I think you are completly wrong, He is a class act, image a partnership up front of Donaldson and O'Neil. But you are right he doesnt score many, but that doesnt seem to be his role, he is more of a provider.

Bushell is not what I expected he doesnt seem strong enough or commited enough at times.

Andy Scott - we must keep him at all costs, he is the best conference player I have seen all season!

Anyway if we stay up consider this - Get a good left back, right back and central defender. Replace Val with someone younger and bring in a pacey strong forward and we will do good.

Coburn: I suspect that a fully fit Stuart would have saved that header at Tamworth.

Little: Would still do a very useful job for a team at Conference level, despite his age. Imagine how many goals he might score for a team that possessed a decent winger?

Chalmers: the jury is still out, as yet. Potential is there but consistency is lacking.

Bushell: as said previously, he just hasn't lived up to expectations.

O'Neill: didn't York City try a partnership of him and Donaldson last season....and I think that he amassed a total of three goals in the process? Commitment and effort cannot be faulted but he spends too much time with his back to goal.

Andy Scott: a phone call from Mourinho or Ferguson must be imminent.......

For my money, Alty only possess two players who are of genuine Conference class, namely Coburn and Little.

If (God forbid) we were to be relegated, I don't believe for one minute that Droylsden or Vics would be stampeding down to Moss Lane with lucrative contracts to sign the likes of Chalmers (still unproven at this level, despite all the hype); Lawton (Conference North standard, nothing more); O'Neill (he'll never score enough goals at Conference level) or Bushell (a major disappointment this season).

Mind you, we may have trouble holding on to Andy Scott....

Flynny,

After that Tamworth debacle, thank goodness he did not just say:

"I'll be astonished if we win on Saturday"....!

Re. Thornley

(a) He is never fit enough;

(b) He rarely lasts for 90 minutes when he starts;

(c) his finishing ability has been in decline for some time, as demonstrated by his poor control when clean through on goal at Tamworth yesterday;

(d) recent injuries have deprived him of that key burst of pace that he possessed when he first arrived at Moss Lane.

Exactly how many light bulbs does Bandy need to be able to see to style his hair though?

I expect Halifax to win at least one of their remaining two home games, which leaves Grays as our most realistic hope as the team to finish below us.....as long as they don't beat Kidderminster on Tuesday evening.

Alas, with the FA Trophy final on their minds, will Kiddy be that bothered?

So, the prediction is: Grays to draw at home to Kiddy and draw/lose at Morecambe next week.....and Alty to beat Aldershot.

Sorted!

What has happened to Munroe?

After an encouraging run of form this season, he was woeful yesterday and his dreadful attempt at a clearing header helped Tamworth to set up their goal.

At least he didn't give a penalty away this week, though!

Mind you, not many Alty players covered themselves in glory yesterday.

I'm still mildly hysterical about the performance....

6444
Why is it "doom and gloom" to admit that Alty were depressingly awful this afternoon?

Surely, that's just speaking the truth?

That does not mean that I won't be at Moss Lane praying for us to avoid relegation next Saturday.

The spirit of that famous day at Stoke was evident amongst the Alty fans today.....but sadly missing from the Alty players on the pitch.

Altysmiffy,

Alas, there speaks the man who hasn't had to attend and endure most of the games this season!

It all looks better from Scotland.

6446
I can't recall watching a football match so devoid of skill, flair, imagination or technique as the 90 minutes of unrelenting drivel that I witnessed at Tamworth today.

On that evidence, both those teams will be relegated and (you'd have to say) deservedly so.

Alty's first half performance was simply a disgrace.

Still too irate by it all to write much more.

6447
I'm looking forward to an afternoon nap circa 4.00pm as yet another enthralling Tamworth v Altrincham game sends me into a coma......

Is it too late to organise a massive banner with the words "There's only one Mark Cooper" across it?

6448
Never mind about Coburn......is Andy Scott fit?

6449
Mick,

Many thanks for your guidance.

Have a Goodwin.

Any information/guidance would be gratefully received.

Please allow an extra hour's travelling time when suggesting your route, so that we can stop and call in at several churches along the journey in order to offer prayers for an Alty victory...
