if eddies been competing with marine who got into the unibond play-offs...how far can he be off playing in conf north...they nearly got there anyway...is this to say he wouldnt have played for marine if they'd been promoted

No.
But that doesn't guarantee that he is playing to the high standard he exhibited during the 2004/05 season.

As discussed in previous posts mate, the fact that I only have one cruciate ligament and am fat means that my chances of playing are limited.

That never stopped the legendary Tunna!

From John Laidlar's splendid website:

GEOFF CLARIFIES THINGS
Following the report in SAM earlier this week, (see below) Alty chairman Geoff Goodwin has clarified his view on the club's relegation from Conference National. Geoff has confirmed that he would have liked the club to have retained its Conference National status and to play at the highest level achievable but he is determined to look positively at the consequences of being relegated to the Conference (Blue Square) northern division.

Desperate and furious backpedalling......or has someone at the club had a quiet word in his ear?!

Excerpt from John Laidlar's excellent Altrincham FC website:

"Chairman Geoff Goodwin reversed his decision to step down...saying:

'Relegation will be a godsend, it will be the making of the club."

So, why on earth did we all pay our money to get into Moss Lane last Saturday and pray for an Alty win?

Well, thank goodness Colin Little missed that good chance at the Golf Road End....

Extraordinary.

With regard to Hussin's injury how do you know he won't be able to play at Conference North level?

Isn't it an issue that can only really be judged by Eddie and his doctor?

If fit he would make and excellent addition to next year's squad IMO. I do however agree copletely with the rest of your assesments.

Jimmy,

Re. Eddie Hussin

Indeed, I do not know for certain whether his injury has meant that the Conference North is a league too far for him.
I used the adjective "unlikely" because knee injuries are often the ones that really damage or even curtail a player's career and, therefore, I fear the worse.
Remember John King back in 1982?

I agree, IF he was fully fit, I'd love to see Eddie rampaging across Moss Lane again.

in my opinion a scott is would not get in to a decent conf north side

Andy Scott wouldn't get into a bad Conference North side....!

We got relegated. It was as GH says, inevitable given we are part time.

It didn't appear to be inevitable in Stafford.

As for next season...

Mark Maddox: to return as Alty Reserve Team Manager - NOT as a first team player;

Colin Potts: great for us in 2004/05 but to bring him back would be a retrograde step;

Eddie Hussin: has everyone forgotten the seriousness of his knee injury? A colossus for us during 2004/05 but, alas, unlikely to be able to play at that level again;

Chris Adams: another devoted servant in 2004/05....but his time has gone.

I thought that this club was supposed to be "moving forward", as those in charge keep repeating?
In that case, let's see some new blood....

I'd like to see Mark Maddox return in the role of Alty's Reserve Team Manager.

Having spoken to him a month or so ago, I know that he has successfully completed all his UEFA coaching courses and the man is Alty through and through.

Probably down to finances though.

Ecky,

Thank goodness somebody understood the point I was trying to make!

This season we had about 25 to 30 Oxford United supporters in the Alty Sponsors' Lounge for their team's debut at Moss Lane.

Next season, there won't be 25 supporters in total on the away end for the respective visits of Vauxhall Motors, Gainsborough Trinity, Redditch and so on.....

Yes, the lasagne in the Sponsors' Lounge is enjoyable......but the ensuing home defeat against Alfreton Town may well bring on a severe bout of indigestion.

He works admirably to attract sponsors to Moss Lane and now next season he is faced with the unenviable task of trying to persuade people to sponsor a home game against Redditch or Vauxhall Motors rather than the likes of Oxford United or York City.

Well, at least our Chairman is looking forward to a return to the Blue Square/Conference North....

So I'd take the reprieve but would always feel a bit guilty and I would at this moment hope there is no reprieve...we would also get the "Alty shouldn't be here" FGR tag.

Excuse me...but did we not get a reprieve last June after having 18 points deducted and finishing bottom of the Conference?
Did you feel guilty then?

I tell you what then....
....I'll dream about a reprieve and another season of Conference football next year....
.....whilst you get all excited about your big day out in Alfreton....!

I have been very motivated by the mature & positive response to Saturday's disappointment...it reflects the truly healthy state of Altrincham Football Club & the quality of its supporters.

Brian

Sorry, Brian.....but it looks to me as if a host of people have been brainwashed into thinking that relegation is a positive step!

Yours, still in despair.

To summarise: six points gifted to one of our main relegation rivals.

Two dreadful games in which we couldn't score a single goal against a fellow part-time team.
