Stanley facing new fight for survival

Accrington Stanley are in danger of going out of business after selling just 118 season tickets.

They are in their second season back in the Football League after going bust in 1962.

Chairman Eric Whalley said: 'It is the worst since our UniBond days — and the thing is I know each and every one of them. We need another investor.'

Date with destiny

Rebel club FC United make their debut in the FA Cup tomorrow in a derby with Trafford at Altrincham's Moss Lane. Victory would earn a first qualifying round trip to Fleetwood, the club against whom Newton Heath — the forerunner of Manchester United — played their first Cup tie over a century ago.

Another investor? It seems they're in greater need of a few more paying customers. They should only spend the money they make and find their true level - NW Counties League.

But they still get around 2,000 at home so surely they must have more than 118 season ticket holders?  If Rotherhams gate was the same proportion of season ticket holders as Accrington's then we would have over 20,000 for our home games.

I've just hads a check of the trustworthy Accrington Observer and they have sold 232 still not great though

Trouble is too many chairpersons at football clubs  spend too much money chasing the dream. When it goes pear-shaped they expect to be bailed out.

I believe they only learn when its too late and there suddenly playing in the lower ranks of english football...much lower ranks!!!
Its sad in one way but in another, their naive ways are deservedly punished!
