Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Darlington Match Thread
« on: August 26, 2018, 10:34:21 AM »
How pleasant it was! A walk in the park at Darlington’s South Park, followed by another at Blackwell Meadows. Darlington’s players could perhaps take to the bowling green, and still find they lack aggression and skill. Still, Alty managed to be superb at missing the target in a bizarrely one sided first half. Hulme took up the baton from Johnstone’s grandstanding silliness in the second half, and also got booked. Meanwhile Darlington continued to delight with little dinked, flighty corners and their defenders’ determination to run away from the ball at the most critical moments. Then came a spell of improved finishing, with a couple of shots on target, and a couple of goals. As if waking up from a dream, late on, Darlington’s top bowls prospect headed a ball towards South Park. The Alty goal was in the way of the flight of the ball, but all of a sudden, a balletic, leaping, twisting Wynne produced the top quality moment of the match to flip it away. A first trip down from the Dales this season and it didn’t disappoint. Johnstone’s dramatically strapped up leg and painful hobbling wasn’t a pretty sight though.

This....👍

Superb result. Didn't go so can't comment to much.

Was Richman injured?

Yes, had a word with him before the game and he’s pulled his groin in training. Peers also injured...and JJ didn’t look great when he went off.

So, apart from these..and existing injuries we’re looking good! That was a great performance all over the pitch, would be churlish to pick any individuals out ....but I feel a mention must go to Elliot for a great debut. Contender for save of the season from that header. The new loanee played very well too...bags of effort and trickery.

Just hoping we can produce our away form on Monday...the fans who don’t travel deserve to see us play like this

Do we know if this signing has signalled the end of Brendon Daniels’ less than impressive spell with us...or are both available for tomorrow?

Sorted...I’ll get Angus and his mates on it, he was talking about this the other day.

Delighted that Elliot Wynne has signed...I’m also glad that we have Bannister on board now, slightly surprised about Downing being honest — but I hope to be proven wrong.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Defence and centre midfield

We have some very good players in both areas.

Assuming PP goes with two defensive mids ,what are people's thoughts?

I know he won't drop Moult but I would consider starting Harrop and Williams for home games or maybe have Harrop as an attacking midfield/No.10. Although Hancock is decent in the hole.

Centre backs,I have no idea. All 4 are very good at this level,I suppose Harrison with another...?

As is James Poole.

Yes, we will have many options when James gets fit, for me he is nailed on when match fit. He can find a pass like no other in the team and his guile will be needed against the better defences in this League.

As regards the defence, very impressed with Goulding and Hannigan as a pair in pre season and we have to remember that Ben is still getting over a significant injury. I suspect for Leamington that he will start with Goulding and Hannigan providing they both come through Saturday unscathed.

For Leamington I’d go:

The new right back has been very impressive, along with Goulding, Hannigan and  Hampson I think he completes the back 4.

If he plays Jordan up top on his own, then the remaining 5 for me are JJ, Moult, Harrop,Williams and Hancock.

Subs: Ringo, Peers, Harrison, White, and a keeper (hopefully Wynne)

No doubt many will disagree 😃

Was the keeper tonight - Elliot Wynne who played against us at Lancaster and had a stormer against us in the FA cup - I was told at work today he had left Fylde and signed for a Unibond Prem club - no mention of Alty

Yeah, he signed for Fylde and was loaned out for experience  to Lancaster last season where he played over 20 games and won lots of accolades. Actually took a chance to move nearer to home by trialling for Stalybridge recently, which didn’t work out by all accounts. Hopefully has done enough tonight to merit another chance, he’s much much better than any of the triallists we have had so far this pre season...couldn’t do much about the goal and looked confident in taking crosses and in his distribution.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Sean Miller
« on: July 24, 2018, 01:22:30 PM »
From the main site...is it just me or does it sound like rokka has upset someone?...

The club have announced that Sean Miller has been released and will not be offered a contract to join the squad for the 2018/19. Sean enjoyed an excellent season in the 2016/17 campaign where he was one of our standout performers despite the club suffering relegation. His Alty career however stalled in the 2017/18 season after a series of injuries restricted his playing time.

We thank him for some outstanding goals, performances, and his hard work over the last couple of years.

Elliot Rokka’s trial has also come to an end and we wish him all the very best for the future.

I think it’s just you, I don’t see anything in the announcement to suggest anything else. Sean gets more of a write up I think because he has spent a lot longer at the Club, and merits a decent write up. Elliot was (only) a triallist.

Brian...found your comments on the Showreel as you advised, thanks very much mate!

It’s a pity we seem to have just missed out on Elliot Newby who has only just signed for Chorley last week. Would  have been ideal...

131
Yeah, I was impressed with him last season when I saw him play. Plus, we have lost Chris Merrie who definitely gave us something extra at the end of the season, and Sean has the experience and guile to fill that gap. Great on set pieces too.

132
Sean Williams signed for us again from Warrington.

I’m happy with that, cracking player

I was saddened to read that Ian Senior has decided to stand down as keeper coach after 11 years. He has been a fixture since I started watching Alty, a really friendly guy who always had time to speak. He has also worked tirelessly organising charity games etc, and I’m sure he will be badly missed around the place. I wish him well for the future.

On another note ...anyone have any feedback from the trials day last weekend? Did anyone actually turn up?
