Manchester United Under-15s will play WBA Under-15s at Moss Lane on Wednesday 23rd January, at 7pm. Entry is free.
Do we know if this might end up a permanent thing at Moss Lane? It would be good to get one of the big clubs getting one of their teams down to ML regularly.

Why?
-
Why?
Money, contacts, getting players on loan etc
-
Why?
For the same reasons we had Man U reserves at Moss Lane

Why?
Cos when I watched Utd's u-15s last time it was one of the best games of football I'd seen for years. An absolute joy to watch.
Also, giving talented u-15s a positive impression of Alty may also be beneficial when released by Utd at 18/19.

Didnt United U-15s play Villa U-15s a month or two ago at ML as well?
-
And the obvious reason - a higher profile for the club (an association with Man U can do us no harm whatsoever).
-
It is rumoured that Manchester United were to blame for Altrincham not being elected into the league during the early 80's. Most people hate United due to them being a perfect example of everything that is wrong with football, but Altrincham seem to have an even better reason to hate them.

Yes, I believe Louis Edwards was worried about us being a threat to Utd if we ever became a Football League club on their doorstep.
Heh! :)
IIRC the clubs we are supposed to be particularly displeased with are Luton and Grimsby??
-
I heard the Luton and Grimsby chairmen were virtually kidnapped by United and not released until after the voting had finished.
-
For Man United read Rochdale >:(

The 2008 United (compared to the 1980 version) is a very successful, massively profitable club that gets 75,000 at home and sells ton after ton of merchandise around the world. More and more of their money comes from people who live thousands of miles away and have never even heard of Altrincham. There is no point trying to compete with them directly.
If we were offered money to host some of their youth games and stuck our noses up at them as a point of principle they would no doubt go to one of the many other non-league clubs in this area who would probably bite their hands off. We would lose out on a few grand in the long run, United would lose out on nothing. If being associated very loosely with United makes more people aware of Alty, I'm all for it.
