Still find it hard to belive the news, it just didn't seem right today without Skipper on the coach.

Very sad news, Gary will be sorely missed.

I can only offer my deepest sympathy to his family.

Today was rather odd. It didn't feel right pulling up and the ground not hearing 'BEER TIME'.

R.I.P. Skip, and condolences to his family. Lets hope we can get the 3 points for him on Monday.

I am truly devastated by the loss of skipper.

I can still remember him getting his first coach in 1995.  And getting to know him and then asking him if he was going to this match or that match on the coach.

In the end he said "just book me on all of them mate".   So when I started a list I would put my name and then his name underneath.

I also remember seeing his United tattoos and him then showing me his Alty one he had done...I knew he was a convert then.

I'll miss him swearing much too loud on the coach, but then apologising as he never meant any harm.  Never saw him be aggressive in 13 years of knowing him.

Alty gave skipper a sense of purpose.  I can remember thinking.."skipper, a steward?".  I should never have doubted him.

Then Steve has told me stories today of how he would never have a drink before a home game and took his job very seriously.  He has seen some bad times watching Alty..and a few good ones as well.

And didn't he enjoy them.

Maybe he'll be visiting "sh*te grounds" in heaven now and having "beer time" up there.

Goodbye Skip, you'll not be forgotten mate.

Dreadful news. Have travelled with him a few times and a more loyal Alty fan I doubt you'd meet. Didn't know him personally but you don't really need to at Moss Lane to gain an affinity with people do you?

RIP Skipper, and sincere condolances to friends and family.

Every Home Match morning, when Skipper came to collect his steward's coat from the corridor, he woukl knock on my door, come in & say "Hiyah George are you alright mate". I will be waiting for him on Monday but of course he won't be there & then it will hit me. GOD BLESS YOU, SKIPPER, I AM PROUD TO BE YOUR MATE.   GEORGE.

Heard the news on the train from Waterloo at lunch time, wasn't the same without the "Skip" there today.

People like Gary make Alty what it is and no matter how we much we all talk of formations and finance without us hardy souls it means F all.

We had a few toasts to the legend in Waterloo East tonight.

UP THE SKIPPER.
