Hinder or Help?
« on: January 25, 2023, 05:50:11 PM »

Would having Rochdale and hartlepool or Harrogate come down, be better than more southern clubs from League 2? Likewise CHester and CHorley from CN.

More competition for players? More local games for fans/away fans.

Been wondering the same, We can assume we're also losing Wrexham/Chesterfield/Notts who kind of fight for a similar midlands pool we take from quite a bit. Alongside this Oldham (maybe) and SC**thorpe (yeah let's face it) going down.

I don't think it will change so much If Rochdale come down and do the same thing as Oldham and pay a few of our level of targets to earn more and play less there, that's like for like essentially. If Oldham stay up things change a little bit, also if Fylde come back up.

I suppose though, Crawley & Gillingham would be ideal from League 2 with Kings Lynn and Darlo from the north.

I’d take Rochdale & Hartlepool coming down all day long.

Rochdale have an EFL history but I don’t think they’d be an especially big club at this level & Oldham are on a completely different scale for example. A Metrolink derby, sense of justice & revenge for our older fans & an away where we could take good numbers & it’s easy for the yoof on the Met. Yes please. Also some decent boozers in the town centre.

Hartlepool is for selfish reasons but my wife’s family are all from there & I have been to Victoria Park & know all the pubs in the monkey hangers lair well. Gutted that the one season we crossed over it was all BCD so would love the chance to play them properly & do the away day right.

Realistically anyone from Colchester down in 18th could go but some of the alternatives, Crawley, Newport, Gillingham etc really hold no appeal (especially Crawley) & the league still needs more Northern teams to rebalance it.

As many local clubs in the league as possible please - Rochdale and Hartlepool (or Harrogate) plus Chester, Darlington, Scarborough would be good.

If I remember correctly, we got out of the NLN at a time that there were some big clubs relative to the division - a few of the above plus York etc.

Having lots of big local occasions far outweighs losing out on the odd player - especially when we'd want lads coming to us for all the right reasons (management team, vision etc).

Agree. The more 'closer' clubs the better. The amount of travelling to away games is ridiculous for the Alty faithfull..........Consider how many clubs are within 90 minutes drive of Manchester United !

We will likely lose Wrexham, Notts and Chesterfield by May

I think (?) I like the idea of a L2N and L2S

Loved going to Harrogate and would certainly take Chester. Rochdale may be easy to reach, but very very grim.

Firstly a great question.... as a hinderance I think not because the clubs that come down always go for crap league players that have no idea about the league but will swell our coffers with higher attendance's. Also for a pure cold blooded point of view I hope Rochdale come down to feel the love of non league where they screwed us over, but it would be typical they come down the year their are three promotions and they would get one.

OK it's prediction time :

Going up - Wrexham, Notts County

Coming down - Gillingham, Hartlepool

Going down - Maidstone, SC**thorpe, Gateshead, Torquay

Coming up - Kings Lynn, Brackley, Ebbsfleet, Havant & Waterlooville

If I'm right, it's even more travelling next season, and only two new grounds.

Wrexham joining US premier......my mistake, meant two of those 3 will go and all local-ish

Those four coming up would be grim. Although I suppose anything would be better than Fylde.
