Title: NEW SIGNING
Post by: swindellsworth on June 24, 2023, 08:00:51 PM
Welcome to George Wilson who has joined us from Coalville . George is a 22 y.o. midfielder of whom Phil expects big things in the future . Phil states that he intends to initially loan George out to a NLN side .

I am hoping he goes out and smashes his loan, because I feel our CM depth is non-existent at the moment.
Unless we get someone like Maxi on half/full season loan.

Not very many have gone out on loan and come back to fit into the first team. Let's hope this is a notable exception! 🤞

If George is as talented as Phil says it will be one helluva free transfer.

If he gets a few run outs in the friendlies, he might end up staying with us. Isaac did similar and George could eventually be the new Josh.
As others have said though, might be a bit too fast for him to make the transition.

Let's not forget Parky called Roxburgh a 'diamond' last summer. Sometimes it doesn't work out

That's quite correct. However he's right more often than not hence why he's been able to bring us up two divisions and overseen the move to full time.

God forbid someone would have a measured response to a lad we've not even seen yet being called the next Josh

We've not seen him, but Parky and Sorvs have.
I don't know.
I merely put it forward as a possibility that they might have in mind.

Just a cautionary note - the Notts County team that he played against so well last season was basically their second string.

Very true . I do hope he's given some decent game time for us though before going out on loan.

What happened? Has he been injured?

Had a decent game for Carlisle in the playoff final, and I was surprised at their decision to release him.

They mustn't have been confident in him cutting the mustard in Div 1.
For what it's worth, I think he'd have been fine.
Ali Smith will do well at Lincoln, in that league, too.
