Sadly I'm a bit emperors new clothes with all this..As has been said, they can't even put stickers on season ticket holders seats in the main stand...embarrassing..but they don't really care about us old time real fans who were here in the bad old days...Really depressing

£.1.5M is being invested into the club. As someone who first started regularly going in only the late 80s I’m absolutely delighted by this news. The named person on the statement is part of the family in Hale Barns who own B&M. So local people investing in their local team. Much like White & Swales in the 60s which Im sure as an old time real fan you’ll remember.

Tough opening few games imho.
Thought Kiddy would be on a notable date. Not the opener though, it's on Good Friday!

I think the first few games look really tough, need to get some points on the board but not easy games at all, run in looks much more favourable

Totally. First 10 games there’s a lot of sides who should be there or thereabouts. So will give us a good indicator of our level & important therefore we’ve got our business done early. Shame both Rochdale games are Tuesday night as they could be a bit spicy. Both Oldham games being 3pm KO is decent though. Halifax at Christmas is all a bit meh but much better than Fylde or Kiddy.

It wouldn't surprise me to see either Rochdale or Hartlepool in the relegation mix.

Hartlepool won’t be, Askey really knows the division & what it takes. Rochdale on the other hand…

Met a couple of Hartlepool fans in work the other day; they were not confident with their manager having, apparently, brought quite a few players down with him from Scotland.

Wasn't his last job at York?

That's what I thought. Maybe he just has contacts or links.
Either way, I was surprised about their pessimism.

I think crossed wires. Hartlepool last summer appointed Paul Hartley who came down from Cove Rangers & was of course a well known name North of the border. I know he bought loads of Scottish players down with him but didn’t last long before getting sacked in the autumn with Pools near the bottom of L2. Sure it wasn’t a reference to him?!

Compared to most, I think I'm still on the cautiously optimistic side.

It's all well and good signing specific players for specific jobs... but they still have to be quite good at football. United signed Weghorst to fulfil a specific job, and it just turned out he was pretty rubbish in general.

At this level you can't avoid having one or two complete flops, and I'm afraid this coming season will be no different.

The last time we recruited at volume, en masse... it was Neil Young at the start of THAT season. It might be a ridiculous comparison point, but I remember many praising him getting business done early and knowing his targets.

How manu of those players had played CN football. And how many could buy a pint in USA.

Last season recruitment was akin to NY

Totally agree. We’ve signed a lot of new players but they now have a full (full time) pre season to mold in. The NY debacle was a totally different scenario with a brand new manager coming off the back of a relegation season & in a part time environment. I think our recruitment if National League Twitter is anything to go by has been noted by other fans. We’re widely being bandied about as play off dark horses, even if the odds don’t yet reflect that. I’m optimistic, we’ve signed grown men who know this level already & now they have 6 weeks to train to hit the ground running.

FYI on our away attendances, because I did some research for our next podcast, and thought it would add to this thread.

We averaged ~115 away in the league this season. I am not sure where this stands us in the league, but you'd imagine it's close to the bottom.

8/23 of the away games saw us take less than 50.

The average is heavily skewed by the 609 we took to Oldham. If you ignore the 'popular' trio of Oldham, Halifax and Wrexham (giving a better average of our hardcore away turnout) we averaged ~70.

Note: Estimated figures as five fixtures had no recorded away attendance.

Really interesting research. The thing is here whilst our home average has basically doubled (and a bit more) under Parky, the core away support is arguably now less than when we were getting 800 at home. Completely mad really. Undoubtedly some of it is the geography of our current league where every other Saturday seems to be an 8 hour round trip doesn’t help.

Staggered we've released Goodson

You never know behind the scenes whether a player wants to leave or an agent turned his head but with bits & bobs at far flung Boston & Spenny & only the odd sub for us here & there he never really got into a rhythm last season. Not like we are stacked in his position though so of all the ones we’ve let go this is the one that clearly jumps out. Parky is loyal so the fact most have been kept on is no surprise. Both GK staying after the defensive horror show we produced last season is an odd one too.

Great news for the town & all Shakers fans, pleased to hear it. Suspect it will be a good few years yet though before we finally get to play the proper Metrolink derby against them.

I remember all that with Oxford City as well, they were labelled as the next money club for a while.

I think the ground is out in the suburbs of Oxford and a bit of a pain to get to.
Yeah, it was a midweeker at the end of the season about 10 years ago in glorious weather & I recall you could drink by the pitch & they had beer garden tables behind one goal. It never struck me Oxford City could seriously become a Conference National side & given they average about 400 assume someone must be chucking in some decent dosh. The ground is not quite as far out of the city centre as United but it’s nowhere near either. Both a good cab ride from Oxford Station.

If them & Brackley do it that would be amusing & assume they’d both need to do some pretty sharp work on their grounds. Brackleys capacity about 3.5k I think, Oxfords I suspect is even less.

Tbf from a financial & day out point of view having Notts in the division next season is miles better for everyone than BW. Did not see it coming mind!

Not much to be said about that, utterly embarrassing & a black day for the club.

A lot of players are nowhere near good enough & clearly defensively PP & NS really have to think hard about their approach in the summer. 93 goals conceded in all competitions, Aldershot sling enough crosses in on Saturday night & we’ll have a good chance of ‘achieving’ 100.

Shameful.

I heard it was going to be at Crewe but they didn’t want it there

Yes. I hadn’t heard mention of Moss Lane once until it was officially announced a few days ago. On Crewe & re the Thursday night point note Crewe have a league game this Tuesday night at Grimsby. I suspect the final was moved to a Thursday with Crewe anticipating they’d beat Congleton but wanting some of their reserves involved in their league game & also needing some of their officials at Gresty Road for a possible final. Hence them saying they’d host it but on condition it was a Thursday. Once Crewe backed out though I’ve no idea why it couldn’t be shifted to a Tuesday. I could be totally barking up the wrong tree of course, but my understanding was it was always going to be at Crewe & so suspect we’ve stepped in at the last minute.

And not yet official but Hartlepool will definitely be joining them. Given the one season we previously shared this division with them was the BCD Covid season then will be good to see the monkey hangers in person. Guaranteed our game up there will be a Tuesday night though.

Change of venue to our home ground is unfair.

I very much doubt we pushed for it more none of the Senior EFL sides in the County (or usual recent suspects Nantwich) were prepared to host it so we stepped in. A competition which is firmly last on our list of priorities for the season is not one we are going to get involved in backdoor shenanigans for.

I’m pretty sure it was mentioned in passing during PP post game but Ferguson should be available on Saturday.
