Do we attack or play it cagey??
« on: February 19, 2011, 09:40:44 AM »

In the past I have thought that when we actually decide to attack we cause other teams problems and look less like conceding ourselves, Wrexham away being a prime example.
However, Tuesday against Histon may have disproved that, although we looked good in the first half and more likely to score.
I am torn on whether we go all out to score from kick off, or whether we play it cagey and try to nick it at the end.
What do other people think?

Attack. You can't win games if you don't score goals. This is England not Italy.

There is a tendency for fans to insist on all-out-attack. Truth is, we need to play a balanced game. If we try to go for their jugular, our defence will be exposed on the counter. I'd like us to attack sensibly, i.e. not just hopeful balls over the top to Reeves whilst keeping men back, but nor should we recklessly throw men forward. Perhaps put the onus on one midfielder, maybe Hewson, to bust a gut to get forward in support when possible. Lawton and/or the new lad could sit as a defensive shield.

I think Nicky Clee could be key today. He's got the beating of most full-backs in this league.

If by Cagey it means 4-5-1 then I'd go for that Baynes and clee right and left wing, it works and we looked all at sea playing 4-4-2.

Just seen this thread, can't believe you asked such a silly question before the game, on average we concede more then 2 a game, not a sniff are we ever going to hold it tight, and draws will not keep us up. Let's win half our remainding games 3-2 and lose the other half 6-0, if we do we WILL stay up.

We just require the passion effort and determination that we showed in the second half today...

That effort will see us stay in this league for sure

Really enjoyed today  Well done lads..

Yet actually we did revert to the 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 shape and looked much better for it

I feel hurt, it seemed like a reasonable question at the time, especially bearing in mind some of our recent performances!!
Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
