looks like they've just beaten Rochdale. Unbelievable result.
Shows where we could get if we'd played better two weeks ago!!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Wes Baynes
« on: October 22, 2010, 08:15:56 AM »
Looks like the man who scored 50% of Wrexhams goals against us last season has finally come out of hiding to join us here at 'Moss Road'(as Wrexhams website calls us).
My Wrexham supporting spies inform me that his best role is playing just behind forward players , in the hole as it's called.
There has been a lot of speculation over his future, seems he will be playing for us for the next three months at least.
A good piece of business by Ken, hopefully see him against Gateshead on Saturday!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Fleetwood - has their bubble burst?
« on: October 14, 2010, 07:40:03 PM »
Obviously we have to remember our relative positions in the table, but Fleetwood could be there for the taking.
They have had a run of draws and were outplayed by Cambridge last weekend, with a strengthened defence and a bit more luck/composure in front of goal this could be the ideal game to start off a recovery.
Apparently at Wrexham (so my spies tell me) they moved the ball about well but had very little in terms of a goal threat, if we can frustrate them they could be vulnerable later on in the game. I am looking forward to Saturday now.
In Ken we trust, come on Alty!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Is Ken lucky or brilliant?
« on: October 03, 2010, 11:45:12 AM »
Personally, I'd take either.
To gain the points we have in the last four games with  a substandard team (we are clearly carrying 3,4 or maybe 5 players), and gaining momentum, is a huge bonus for us. I wouldn't be surprised if even Ken wasn't expecting much of an improvement until he has had the chance to rebuild .
I'd prefer a brilliant manager, as I believe Ken to be, but a lucky one would be almost as good at the moment!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Kens' First Team

Does anyone have any idea of what the team will be for Eastbourne.
Should give us a good indication of how Ken wants us to play in future.

Altrincham FC First Team / Last Ten Minutes of Games
« on: August 21, 2010, 09:31:23 AM »
Apart from Rushden last season, I cannot think of too many games where we have scored in the last ten minutes.
Unfortunately, the only goals scored in this time are at our end. If it happens in a few games it could be called a fluke, but it seems to be happening with a depressing regularity.
Is it something to do with fitness, or is it pyschological? I am sure GH is wrestling with the problem right now!!

83
I don't want to bore everyone but something that GH said about the situation hit me last night.

He said in an interview:

"It is a delicate situation with Tom and Matt, but I want to give them every chance to come back into the team, because they are good players."

Why is it a delicate situation? Is there a chance they could be on their way when fit enough?

Altrincham FC First Team / Anyone else miss the goal?
« on: June 12, 2010, 09:53:18 PM »
Bloody ITV!!

An advert comes on then we get back to the match to see Gerrard running away from the goal with his arms in the air.
That's twice it's happened now, we should ban ITV from showing important games! It only happened in HD apparently!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Our long term injuries
« on: June 11, 2010, 07:22:22 PM »
Does anyone have any info on how Matty, Tom and Dale are doing?
After watching the end of season DVD I was reminded about Dale's influence in particular, he was involved in so many of our early season goals. The sooner the three of them are back, the better!!

Did anybody see this a few weeks ago, watch the guy on the right after Sir Geoff makes his shocking admission.

By the way, we are going to be playing in the Blue Square Bet Premier League next season. Quite a mouthful, really.

Altrincham FC First Team / Rumour time - Senior to Wrexham??
« on: April 16, 2010, 09:17:55 AM »
From Red passion

http://www.redpassion.co.uk/forums/wrexham/53064-deano-meeting-scouting-new-players-5.html

Anyone else heard any good rumours?
Surely Wrexham, or any other full time club would find it hard to sign a part time player who wouldn't want to give up his job. It would also be very difficult for such a player to stay part time in a full time team. He couldn't attend every training session etc
Interesting that someone would like to have McAliskey at Wrexham!!
P.S. The guy on Red Passion refers to Chris Senior as a 'masseuse'. Is there something we should know. I think we should be told!!

Altrincham FC First Team / So who stays and who goes?
« on: April 10, 2010, 09:57:38 PM »
I think today proved that we are very close to being the genuine article. I thought that after the goal we were the better team and we could have easily drawn, maybe even won the game.
We are just missing that extra bit of confidence in midfield that some teams in this league seem to have,  with the result that we give the opposition too much respect and give away soft goals. When we have to come forward at the end of a game like today we have shown that we are able to take players on and beat them, something we don't do at the beginning of games, resulting in some very good chances being created.
Remember Wrexham and Wimbledon at home?? Like today we gave teams that were no better than us easy goals and then created chances at the end that almost got us back into the game.

With Tom, Dale and Matty hopefully coming back at the beginning of next season, I think wholesale changes aren't required. Two or three players will probably have to go to free money and freshen up the squad. With Col already going who else should we leave behind?
For me it would have to be John McAliskey and either Robbie or Ant. Harsh. maybe, but I really believe we are so close to pushing for the play offs and some extra poise alongside Tom Kearney would give the rest of the team that extra confidence to take the game to the opposition from the beginning of the game, rather than waiting until it is too late.

Altrincham FC First Team / Oxfords loss of form explained..
« on: April 09, 2010, 06:53:58 AM »
From the official site.

''We’d like to have won the league, but while I don’t think it’s going to happen, hopefully we’ll go up through the lay-offs'"

I hope the Oxford players are putting in the necessary practice. Maybe that's why they've been underperforming on the pitch recently!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Game of the Century this weekend
« on: March 31, 2010, 12:29:17 PM »
As devoted football fans, I am sure that, like me, you can hardly wait for The Game of the Century this weekend. It will also give us Alty fans who are rightly outraged at our teams recent poor form the chance to register our disapproval by staying away from Moss Lane.

Mansfield v Wrexham will be a game of at least 50 shots on target and probably 100 crosses in a showcase of attacking football. It will be a crossfest of such intensity that the BBC and Sky will have to take notice and televise all the BSP games next season.
It is just a shame that the paragon of hard, yet fair defending, Frank Sinclair will have to sit this one out. What an inspiration and role model for aspiring footballers he is!

It is hard to call the result, but one thing is for sure, football will be the winner!!
