Altrincham FC First Team / Guess who's been released by Wrexham!!
« on: June 14, 2011, 08:20:39 AM »
Apparently our favourite player is on dodgy ground at Wrexham.
He has been released by Saunders, but may still be part of their plans if no-one else comes in for him.
We must strike while the iron is hot, we need a brutish monster of a centre back, step forward.....

FRANK SINCLAIR.

Altrincham FC First Team / AFC Wimbledon
« on: May 21, 2011, 11:34:30 AM »
Any preferences as to who wins today?
Personally I would like it to be Wimbledon, shows what can happen when supporters get together.
I also didn't really rate Luton in the two games they played us, that ridiculous 'goal' at our place and a very late winner at Kenilworth Road.If Wrexham had have scored that penalty in the second leg, Luton would have been out, they were all over the place and would have conceded more.
So come on Wimbledon, destiny is calling!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Part Tiime in the BSP
« on: April 24, 2011, 08:14:55 AM »
Yesterday we looked exactly like a part time team in a full time league. Too slow and with all the guile of a surgeon trying to use a blunt implement to perform an operation.
Though it pains me to say it, we are not going to be able to stay in this league now or in the future.
Should we just accept that our place is in the BSN with the other part time teams on similar attendances. At least we will see some games where we are competitive next season and could see it as a chance to rebuild.
I will support Alty forever, no matter what league we are in. We are clearly (at present, at least) out of our depth.

Altrincham FC First Team / Luton run out of Money
« on: March 28, 2011, 12:14:30 PM »
Richard Money has paid the price for his clubs disastrous season.
Been replaced by Gary Brabin, his assistant. Obviously being beaten by Southport was the final humiliation!!

Altrincham FC First Team / So, were our tactics vindicated yesterday?
« on: March 27, 2011, 02:17:12 PM »
Yesterday was a fantastic result and one that gives us a great chance of staying up.
However, I am still a little uncomfortable with the way it was achieved. If Stu hadn't have been so fantastic for us again, we could have been so far behind by half time that the second half wouldn't have mattered. Giving sides possession so cheaply and hoping to snatch a winner at the end is not going to work every time and I genuinely believe that we are in this league on merit and should go out to give the opposition a game every time we play. Two of our best players were sat on the bench for an hour, we cannot afford to give opposing teams a cheap start like that, surely we have to give as good as we get and not let teams come onto us without fear of conceding themselves.
I feel we are not doing ourselves justice. A great win, but we cannot rely on Stu to save us every week.

Altrincham FC First Team / Captain Fantastic Robbie Lawton
« on: March 20, 2011, 08:34:09 PM »
I know other players tend to grab headlines, but especially since the start of 2011 I think Robbie has really shown us all why he should be captain.
Inspirational, never say die performances culminating in a richly deserved Man of the Match on Saturday. He embodies the spirit that could keep us in this league for another season and looks genuinely proud to wear the shirt, an attitude that I think wasn't lost on the other members of the team.
If we are still a BSBP league team after Eastbourne, I think Robbie deserves a huge share of the plaudits.

Altrincham FC First Team / A Message to the Players
« on: March 13, 2011, 01:25:25 PM »
As you walk into the ground and then pull on the shirt on Tuesday night please take a moment to consider the implications of your evenings work.
Altrincham is a proud, well run and much loved football club that was once the best non-league team in England.A significant percentage of you seem to be going through the motions and condemning this famous club to a relegation it does not deserve.
Certainly, most of the players give their all, but we will need everyone to play as if their life depended on it for the next two months, otherwise you will be letting down the fantastic people that run the club for scant monetary reward, the captain, manager and supporters.
As Alty fans, we deserve better, please don't let us down (again).

Altrincham FC First Team / How to Beat Wimbledon
« on: February 25, 2011, 11:21:35 AM »
What team do we put on the field to beat Wimbledon this weekend. They had a wobble on Tuesday and their confidence can't be particularly high.
As I have been mercilessly ripped to shreds for mentioning the 'play it cagey' option, here is what we should do.
Play as similar a team as possible to the eleven we played on Tuesday, with Baynes for Wedgebury, Twiss in place of Beesley and Young in place of Joseph. I know Marc was MOM against York, but he still has the capacity to produce a catastrophic error which could lose us the game. I also remain to be convinced about Mark Beesley, we just look more threatening with Twiss on the pitch.
We seem to be getting better results playing with an attack minded team, let's go for it!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Do we attack or play it cagey??
« on: February 19, 2011, 09:40:44 AM »
In the past I have thought that when we actually decide to attack we cause other teams problems and look less like conceding ourselves, Wrexham away being a prime example.
However, Tuesday against Histon may have disproved that, although we looked good in the first half and more likely to score.
I am torn on whether we go all out to score from kick off, or whether we play it cagey and try to nick it at the end.
What do other people think?

Altrincham FC First Team / Next up .... Kettering
« on: February 18, 2011, 01:57:51 PM »
I would go so far as to suggest that Histon was a watershed moment in our season. Surely that can't happen again.
However, Kettering are putting a run together and this will be a very difficult match. If we can scrape a one goal victory I would be very happy, although I am starting to feel very fatalistic at the moment.
Still, we have had some great results against Kettering in the past, last season being our best performance at home.Time for another!!

Onwards and upwards!!

Two fluky goals versus Nickys' fantastic strike.
Can we apply for second half only tickets for Alty and only pay half price!! There's little point in watching some of our first half displays.

Altrincham FC First Team / Scouting
« on: January 02, 2011, 06:24:15 PM »
I thought Carl Piergianni was fantastic for us yesterday, giving the defence a solid feel we haven't had in a while, especially with Smithy getting injured.
How does Ken choose these players, he obviously knows the defence needs shoring up, but does he get to see any new prospects play or does he have to rely on the recommendations of others? Was there a chance that Carl could have been rubbish and we wouldn't have known until he started playing. That Bury defender we had playing for us at Kettering springs to mind.

Altrincham FC First Team / 2010- Worst year ever??
« on: December 01, 2010, 02:16:38 PM »
Is this the worst year you can remember as an Alty fan?
I go to most home games and a few aways when I can get the time/money, yet the last time I saw us win was 3-2 against Hayes in January!!(In a game we should have lost, incidentally).
I personally cannot recall a calendar year like this before, it is amazing that we have any kind of chance of staying in this league.
Please don't accuse me of negativity, I will follow this club forever, but it has been a trial this year!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Luton Inquest??
« on: November 16, 2010, 08:52:58 AM »
Normally there is a healthy discussion on here about how we have viewed the previous match.
The Luton match is conspicuous by its' absence.Does that imply that we are past caring, or has a sense of fatalism crept in and the game panned out as everyone expected?
If I could have written the script for the game beforehand, I reckon it would have read pretty similar to what happened.
I still think that , with some supposedly easier games to come, we can get out of this.
What does everyone else think, both about Luton, and the future?
