Altrincham FC First Team / Re: keep chumbawumba!!!

Running out to Chumbawumba was something different yesterday. I agree with Ecky, Fanfare still gets everyone going.

Have to query Mariah Carey's  - Hero (Don't ask how I know it was that  :)) at the end of the match. I like how it lasted for 3 or 4 seconds before common sense prevailed... Made me chuckle to myself... ;D

But if he does well, then he'll be back off to Barrow before a month's out!

I'm all for a bit of change, but would rather see experience over youth in this instance.

I'll await confirmation on our site, but my 'gut' feel here is that this is not a good loan signing. He can't get into the Barrow team (who we beat) Has been injured and playing at Gainsborough, so won't be fit either?

He's also 20, which I know in footballing terms is "old enough", but we're in a dog fight 8 points off 5th bottom. Will he have the temperament for this sort of battle? Is this the right sort of loan signing we need to be making?

I hope KM knows what he's doing....

Doughty certainly getting minutes on the pitch

Played 2 games for Curzon (Won both), 87 minutes in first game and 120 in the second (Was actually subbed  at the end of Extra time after 120 mins)

Hopefully he'll be back sooner rather than later!

Having seen McCarthy in half a dozen games now, I feel that he is more a winger than a striker. Great first touch, lots of skill and ability and delivers a decent ball. Denham and Reeves seem to be striking a good partnership and Twiss is still to come (once he's fit, he'll be an asset). The only trouble with this is that i'm not sure he's a wing back in out current 3-5-2 formation. I think KMs preferred formation choice is 4-4-2 so in the medium long term once we have a few replacements (stirker and centre half) Mccarthy could fit into this well...

I support all of the positive comments re GG. Good luck to him.

I do find it suprising that the board will now wait over a week to convene and discuss next steps. Surely an Extraordinary board meeting is called for? like........ tonight/tomorrow..... Surely everything should now be discussed? If there is nobody to replace GG, the GR steps in and the debarcle that has been going on for the last 2 - 3 weeks gets sorted out i.e. does the manager stay/go? A firm statement to the fans indicating what the club is/isn't doing. ???

Cult,

You are correct, it was Mike Norton, he played a couple of pre season friendlies 2 pre seasons ago having come from Curzon Ashton after scoring 49 goals in a season. For some reason Graham didn't rate him, he went back to Curzon scored another 30+ goals and then FCUM picked him up.

I'd be suprised if it was him, although he clearly has an eye for goal. Whoever it is, there is a lot of pressure on his shoulders from day 1. I would expect that if another comes in, then 1 of the existing strikeforce will go (I would suggest Holsgrove or Reeves because Twiss is on Contract and McCarthy still needs time...)

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Which players would you release?
« on: September 05, 2010, 11:11:28 AM »
Joseph must be released with immediate effect or left to rot on the bench, he is not fit to clean the changing rooms let alone pull on the Alty shirt. Why on earth did he replace Welch yesterday? An astounding substitution. Welch looked as perplexed as everybody else. Then within 10 mins we're 1 down (Joseph at fault) and the penalty came from the Alty left as well, Brown blowing out of his backside could not get back and Joesph invited their winger to pull the ball back for the shot that lead to the pen!

Marc joseph is a bigger bandit than Robin Hood!

« on: September 03, 2010, 12:21:23 PM »
A tough game, I think Kiddy will be well organised, but they have conceded 15 this season and we've conceded 13, so i'm going for 0-0 game of attrition or a narrow Alty 1-0 win

Sadly I couldn't be at last night's meeting because of work commitments, having read the comments on the forum this morning and pondered the various thoughts, I would comment as follow;

i) GH is clearly not in a good place at present because of things that have happened both on and off the pitch
ii) GH comes out with comments about losing passion for the game and considering his position because he knows that at no point in the next Millenium will the board sack him or accept his resignation! He's threatened this before and GG would not entertain it, thereby GH knows (to a point) he's infallible.
iii) The only way GH will leave this club is if he walks and doesn't listen to the board. I would suggest this will never happen, because who realistically wants to give up their income in the current economic climate?
iv) If GH did go, we have a ready made replacement standing next to him. KM is the only one who has showed and real passion so far this season and has done it in a professional and dignified way

v) The players we have at this club are largely good enough - the players brought in over the close season have league experience and are clearly not rubbish. They may just need coercing, coaching and and arm around their shoulder. The difference between this league and L2 is minimal and most of the players we have brought in have played at that level

vi) Despite a tough start I am still optimistic that we can get out of this mess, play some decent football (We've done it in patches already) and start scoring goals - it only takes one and the flood gates will open (my glass is half full today  ;D)

I think Densmore will be struggling for Sat. Not heard anything official, but he took a knock towards the end yesterday and looked to be struggling. Coupled with the knee ligament tweak he's been carrying he might be rested.

If Densmore is fit, I would go with what Jenga has, I might be tempted to include Twiss though. I know he's had a bit of a hammering on here, but I think he's got something to offer and he needs time on the pitch (45 mins in the last 2 games isn't enough to show how good he can be)
