No coincidence that we have stepped up in the last 2 games with the likes of Heathcote and Lawton involved. We haven't had passion since they last were involved. I am not arsed that Heathcote took a years wage out of the club, he loves Alty and use to have unreal local non league knowledge. Plus life goes on outside of football and he had a family to provide for so no issues for me. Will only be a good thing having Graham's passion around. If it was toxic he wouldn't be anywhere near the club.

Completely agree. Its a while back, but I seem to recall he was a little burnt out when he left. People like that need a soft landing. Plus he has been a regular face at the club since...Alty is in his blood

I hope it is not misplaced, but I do have a renewed hope of optimism. GH's involvement is something I feel very positive about.

I completely get your sentiment and frustration. I am no apologist for the board/club/manager/team, but actions like this without some sort of "Plan B" could work against everyones best interests. The weaker the clubs finances, the less chance of attracting a suitable successor. Seems a little bit "chicken and egg" I guess - if the club was doing well and a going concern we wouldn't want a new chairman anyway.

I was looking at the Vics website today and read the message from their Chairman who basically seems to have written off whatever investment he has made (if any...I know not the details of what he may or may not have done...but I do look at their situation with some sadness and hope we do not end up in a similar mess). Boycotts seems a step in that direction however.

That said...I don't have any words of wisdom about how to resolve this mess :(

Some of us had to make do with a Dragon 32. For us, this is impressive :)

Disagree I'm afraid. At interview he will have been asked how he would uphold the reputation of both 'the game' and his employers, the FA. Consider this event as his 'practical'. He failed. Clearly the word in the football world must have been Sam's 'up for a bung'. All the Telegraph did was test the theory.

My feelings exactly. Although it doesn't feel like good journalism, it does provide a disincentive for people in public positions to know that the media (and presumably whistleblowers) are a very real threat to their status quo, and hence provide an incentive to behave in an honest capacity. Obviously not incentive enough in this case

Some people said he had a small knob...

Without particularly wanting to speak bad of the dead, others might say he was quite a large nob.

It's the most affluent area in Greater Manchester  by a long distance

Well, obviously York Alty is all signed up. You think we can get a few more from this area?

High Net Worth

Probably someone with £2m - £4m of assets (obviously more is better, but the no. of people above this level is quite scarce) who can happily burn £100k without feeling too much pain.

Ah. ta. This kind of excludes me then...

Ah..come on..empty the piggy bank and I am sure you can pony up £100k :) Just 9 more to find !!!!

And "burn" is an important term, as if someone comes in who thinks they will get a return on that investment, they are so delusional that you do not want them anywhere near the club. It has to be a labour of love and a sustained investment and something that is for the community...and only for the community. These are factors that make finding the money, even in a relatively affluent WA14/WA15 area, quite a challenge.

To get this club somewhere decent i am guessing it needs towards £500k or £1m over a sustained period. Ideally one would bring in 5 - 10 HNW's each putting in £100k, in a manner to protect the cub against a Maunders type scenario. Issue is that this will only be down with the blessing of current shareholders who would be diluted down to a very small shareholding...nobody is going to gift the club that type of money unless that have a degree of control to make sure the money goes into facilities (weather proofing pitch seems critical for example) and a sustainable players budget. I know not the board personally or their objectives, but the do not seem to have deep pockets, so its unlikely they will put in anything like that money...but if they view their interest in the club as a "Trophy Asset" then this could be a blocking factor, even if one finds the HNW's (which is a big ask)

« on: September 12, 2016, 07:55:30 PM »
Whilst I agree that we may not be exactly favourites to have any cup run of any significance this year, threads with titles like this may be counter-productive. Do we really want the new manager and the team to think that we have given up on them before they start?

It's been a horrible few months, and few people (both fans and those working for the club) have bathed themselves in glory...and it is quite ok to criticise where criticism is due...but lets try and show them team that we are with them.

Anyway..had a few beers tonight..but this is how i feel.
