Denham gave his all for Dave Pace in a very difficult season.
He didn't call the 'cote a w&&&&r did he?...that'd be unacceptable I guess.
-
Whats the betting he knocks us out of the FA cup with a Tony Sullivan-eque performance and celebrates shaking his fist at the moss lane dug out?
-
Denham did not have an argument with Heathcote when he added extra training on a Friday - he arranged to meet him the folowing day to discuss.
By this point, Heathcote had already touted Chris about, calling other clubs.
Now does that sound like Denham wants to leave? More like Heathcote wants rid to me!
And Chrissy did not refuse to train last Friday - he was at a funeral which GH was told about, yet failed to mention when asked of his whereabouts.
Denham will be a big loss to Alty - it's getting ridiculous that a discussion with GH has been blown up in to a blazing row and a fall out.
-
do people get burried on friday nights?
-
The funeral was in Birmingham actually...
-
I really hope Denham doesn't leave. I've seen him play a few times and he has been excellent on every occassion. He was brilliant in the game against Barrow. If he does go, for whatever reason, then I agree, it will be a bad loss for Alty.
-

maybe this is what the hand gesture was about the other week.
when everyone was chanting theres only one chrissy denham.
Cote was directing the sign at him, not the fans.
has anyone else considered this.
-
I thought he cupped his ear when that was being sung?
-
GH has asked me to post the following on his behalf:
“I have not touted Chris Denham around to any clubs. One manager had already expressed an interest in Chris some weeks ago. I told him he was not available. I subsequently recontacted him to let him know of Chris’s discontent. I have no desire to keep anybody who is unhappy at the club. Chris made it clear that he would not be available for training on Fridays after I had agreed that the funeral last week would take precedance. Chris contacted the manager of another club, who phoned me on Thursday. That club is currently trying to find a way of signing Chris that is agreeable to all parties.”
-
I have not touted Chris Denham around to any clubs.
I subsequently recontacted him to let him know of Chris’s discontent.
Contradiction surely? I maintain Chris is absolutly in the right.
It is admirable the players who agreed to training on Friday but it is also their right to refuse.
I suspect the slagging off of an unamed player(s) has upset Chris and who wouldn't be?
I had a ridiculous complaint made about me.....apparently I got to the destination late and drove too fast...my boss has backed me to the hilt.....had she publicly slagged me off I'd be contacting our rival companies.
Did the 'cote ask you to apologise for making a wanker gesture in front of the paying public many of whom are his supporters? NO? Well I'm staggered.
-
Managers should back the players all the way - not try to get rid because they said they are unhappy.
Surely seeing how you can make them happy and have a bit of team moral would have been the right thing to do in this case?
Whether Heathcote's hand gesture was at Denham or at the fans, either is unacceptable for a Manager at this level.
-
Just a few points:
Do we want/can we afford to carry a player who doesn't want to play for Alty?
Can we afford to have a player sat in the stand on full pay?
Would we rather have the money available to secure the signing of another player (eg. Shaun Densemore) on a long term contract?
This matter doesn't seem to have ended the way any of us would have wanted but it seems inevitable that Denham is going to leave now. If so, we should just make the best of it, let him get on with his career and do the best thing by both parties.
-
Sorry to say this but if this was a certain winger (who played for us last year) refusing to train with us last year peoples views would be totally different and they would be backing Grahams stance. It just makes me laugh.
However, really hope that somehow they manage to sort out their differences as we need quality players in the squad and also Denham works so hard when he plays.
-
Has he actually said he doesn't want to play for Alty?
-
Has he actually said he doesn't want to play for Alty?
I have no idea, but I never said he had. I just asked the question, do we want "a player" who doesn't want to play for Alty.
At the end of the day I would love nothing more than to see everyone kiss and make up and for Chris Denham to be back on the pitch winning games for Alty.
-
Wouldn't we all?!
He's a fantastic player, and I think we're losing out big time with him in the stand.
Alty are paying a great player to not play - doesn't make much sense really.
GH needs to bite the bullet and think about the team as a whole, not differences he might have with Chris or other players.
At the same time, Chris needs to think about getting himself back out there, doing what he does best and help Alty to win the league (OK, maybe not win, but certainly move up the table!)
-
If what GH is quoted as saying is true then I'm behind him 100%. It'll be bad for the team's collective morale if someone who doesn't even want to be at Alty is making the team. Plus, whilst for some reason he has drawn gushing praise on here (in much the same way as Carlos Logan did for a time), he hasn't played all that well for us. Decent dribbler, decent pace and a very hard worker, but his inability to look up and actually pick out a pass or cross in VERY frustrating in my opinion. If we get a small fee for him I'll be chuffed with that, last night proves we don't need him.
-
top post you must see what i see.hard worker but impossible to compose yorself at that speed
-
He's a player we've wanted for so long, and his performances have no doubt helped us out!
One minute we love him but as soon as he doesn't follow suit, he's 'no so good afterall'.
Rubbish!
He's a great player, his quick pace and ability to put himself out there... I can't fault the guy skill-wise.
Yeah - he's not our only good player, but he certainly makes a difference.
Who has heard Chris say he doesn't want to be at or play for Alty?
Last night was a good game - we really shone, but could we have made that score higher with help from Chrissy D? I think so...
-
Seriously though, you are his Mum aren't you?
-
we could of lost with him aswell.hes not a team player very individual.
-
Afraid not... but my wife has a bit of thing for him!
-
We need to keep hold of him, simple as that.
Also it's a long season and we need as good a squad as we can have, a squad with Denham is better than one without!
-
Based on the main site, Denham is going.
Oh well it was good while it lasted.
Still a pity they cannot resolve the issue.
-
I can't help feel that this could have been avoided somehow. :(
It's a tricky one if Chris is saying that he is refusing to train when all the other players are agreeing as it does beg the question of his commitment to the club, we need a strong team spirit in order to survive this season and need all the players pulling together. If Chris is refusing to train then I feel that yes that would be disruptive to the other players and is not good for team spirit etc.
However on the flip side should we have tried harder to bend to Chris in order to keep one of our best players? Is it a reflection of GH's man management skills? Somone else mentioned the fact that perhaps a better man manager would have resolved the issue.
-
This is silly. Three nights a week training, a full-time job, maybe a wife and kids; when are the players to get a life? Were the three nights training part of the original contract? If you want extra training extend the two sessions you've got already. Depending on where a player lives, there is also the extra petrol to consider.
Besides which, training on a Friday night rarely improves performance in the long term. in my experience.
Footballo is still only part of life.

Thank you Steve Burr!

Couldn't have said it better myself...

Steve Burr doesn't go on internet forums, which is as well and he looks NOTHING like me. I promise.
Also, if he did, he wouldn't use a nom-de-plume Grahame.
ps..if you were to consider my points, my unbiased and objective points, carefully, you might be able to resolve this situation.
-
how do you know he doesn't?
-
Because I met him twice and each time it was stated that he doesn't.He prefers not to be "swayed" by the opinions of others (especially the 600 frustrated and inexperienced football managers trying to run his team)but to make his own mind up, I think. He seems a decent guy.
-
he is (apart from the whole playing for m*cc and managing v*cs) wether they admit it or not all managers read these fourms trust me if a team is winning and doing well an ego just cannot resist
-
Again, that depends on what else is going on in their lives. Whether they are full-time, browsing from work as so many folk seem to get away with now. I'd fire half of them. I'm only doing it because I've retired and using my own equipment. Man/woman management involves so many issues and I think that most footall managers need to go back to basics on handling people before they even try to handle the football side. You get a player like Neil Redfearn (ex-Oldham,to make it more objective)- bright, knows his rights, believes in speaking his mind and some managers can't cope. They see him as a threat. The trick is to utilise his attributes. It all boils down to respect in the end.

Which half? Why not the other half?
-
The half that get paid good money (yours and mine) and surf the internet all day.

So is there a direct linear relationship between pay and conscientousness/productivity? If only it were so, but I think it's more likely to be an inverse relationship.
I'm just babbling for the sake of it now and we're getting way off topic, so I'll reel myself back in.
So, Denham, very hard to tell where who's telling the truth on this one as there appear to be differening stories coming out. I suspect, as with most of these things that the truth is somewhere between the two.
Whatever the truth it is an incredible shame that this could not have been sorted in some other way. There's no point in attracting players of his undoubted quality if you can't keep them.
-
Altybird your Denham's bird aren't you
-
If all players APART from Denham agree to train in fridays then as cancelling fridays training is not an option there is only one solution to the problem.
A real shame to be honest, but we all have to do things in life that we dont want to do like overtime. Can you imagine if your boss asked you to do regular overtime to keep the company going and you said no - how long would you last in your job?
-
Unless the Friday thing is going to be permanent - which I wouldn't imagine to be the case - I don't see what Denham's problem is really. Assuming that he really does want to stay and is committed to the club. It would be a nice gesture for him to agree to do it for a short period and for GH to publicly say that the Friday thing is short-term.
There. An acceptable compromise!
Oh, hang on, GH can't even apologise to the fans so he's not likely to do that is he?
-
I reckon he's going to Barrow
-
Ive heard hes off to staylybridge

I really hope this is true. If it is, it's a great relief because, before the season's over we're going to need him!

Fantastic news if true.

Fingers crossed!
