Much as I love the Trophy and would enjoy a run I really think some players need a rest. So I would rest Harrison, Hulme and Johnson.
Still think we can advance.
Alty 2-0. Attn 543
-
I would rest Hancock as well and go with Peers and Harrop up top, Miller and Walsh on the wings (similar to the Ashton game).
-
Still a prestige competition for me, and the prize fund is decent too. I think we could go far this season so I'd go for a full strength team on Saturday. If we are really interested in progressing then we shouldn't take chances.
-
Alty 4/11
Draw 7/2
Clitheroe 11/2
-
As I mentioned last week, not sure the team can cope with setbacks, so keep the momentum going.
-
Definitely agree with MarpleAlty on this one - same team that sneaked past Ashton should be enough.

Exactly.
A prize of £3,250 for overcoming Clitheroe on home territory constitutes a rather good reward in my book (and it's surely imperative that we secure this money after the financial ramifications of the FA Cup calamity at Shildon).
-
We don't have a midweek game coming up so I'd argue there's less of a reason to rest players against Clitheroe. Parkinson likes the Trophy and I don't think we'll see wholesale changes, just the essential ones. Get through this game without a hiccup and have a lighter training session on Tuesday night.
-
Any competition that can lead to playing at Wembley and earning a few quid along the way deserves our full respect.
-
Anyone know entrance prices for today? Might be just me missing it but I can't find them on the website. Thanks
-
There form doesn't look great, they have lost their last three matches away from home and lost five of the last eight overall. Given our recent form, we have a great chance to progress. Wembly here we come.
-

I'm assuming that normal League prices apply, given that there has been no statement about pricing level for this game specifically. As it's a cup match, of course, it's 'all pay' on the gate.
-
I would go full strength and earn the club some much needed cash.
5-0 Alty
ATT 666

unable to put a bet on Alty FC winning by 3-0 today...Bet365 waste of space!

If we'd had made 8 changes this first half might be understandable

Dire stuff
Maybe start the game second half ?

Harder than it needed to be but ultimately comfortable it sounded. The red card sounded harsh. What will the ban be?
-
First half was poor.
Again Thompson's kicking was shocking and puts the other team immediately on the attack. When it is rolling towards him, he kicks it very strange and tries to go for power rather than get underneath it.
Poole and Hancock sometimes need a rocket up their bums.
Second half was much better. Poole stepped up playing deeper after Moult was sent off. Harrop was fantastic when he came on.
I would consider bringing Peers back in. We were more dangerous with Johnston on the left and Peers on the right. More energy in the team.
We need give Miller game time.
Considering we had 10 men for a good 25 mins then it is a great result.
Defence stood strong yet again. Harrison is so demanding.
-
What was the sending off for?
-
Agreed....we made hard work of it today, but the 3-0 score line does not reflect that we never really got out of first gear and made hard work of it. Two late goals and their goalie throwing one into the net.
JJ tore their defence apart at times, but struggled with the final ball into the box.
I thought Bembo-Lita looked OK at the back and Harrop looked lively when he came on.
We do seem to struggle down the middle at times, Richman and Moult play fairly deep and JJ/Hancock go wide leaving an empty space in the middle, which Clitheroe made the most of.
But onwards and upwards, the sign of a good team is when you win and don't play well.
-
What was the sending off for?
It looked like it was for foul and abusive language. Moult appeared to think he had been fouled, or that the ref should have stopped the game as he was lying on the pitch holding his head, and when he got up he addressed some comments rather forcefully in the direction of the referee who without hesitation pulled out the red card.
-
A blank midweek is most welcome as for the third consecutive game we started slowly. I think the massive list of games has been catching up with us, so I'm delighted that we've managed to get through today and secure a midweek without a game. Hopefully we come back a bit less sluggish.
Class showed in the second half, started very brightly and got the break through fortunately through a keeper mistake. Well done to Tom Peers for coming on and being super clinical.
Credit to Clitheroe who performed at a level well above some of the league sides we've hosted this season. Keeper doesn't make that mistake and it's potentially a different game.
-
I think telling the referee he is ******* **** is highly likely to be a sending off offence.
-

Very much so, particularly as he's captain. Needs to lead by example
Should really be stripped of the captaincy if we're being honest - what a poor example to give, typical of the current game. I wonder what ATS makes of it?
-
i'm thinking the ref was from a higher division. different style to the reffing we've been seeing this season. and jake should have known he was a stickler after the way as captain he was called over when the ref spoke to one of the other players.
-
I thought the ref was dreadful all game and did his best to ruin the game.
-
Just for info . The Salford keeper got sent off today for taking a pee...

Seriously?
So the red mist decended for a brief moment, all part and parcel of the game, and if truth been known,he(the ref)
Was exactly what Jake suggested.I am sure Jake will know he let himself and the team down, and he will no doubt
Get a bollocking from Phil, but please don't make him a scape goat.
Let's move on.

How did Callum Jones do?
-
There were quite a few neutrals on the half way line. I couldn't work out whether they were from Buxton. Didn't have Yorkshire accents. Anyway they've got JJ down as the one to deal with.

Did NOT HAVE Yorkshire accents..............so not from Shaw Lane ?

Well if they were Buxton scouts, they lost 2-1 at home to Cleethorpes Town today in the FAT so they’ll have enough to worry about with their own team.

How did Callum Jones do?
Seen worse. He showed good positional awareness, but was beaten too often one-on-one, and his distribution left something to be desired. A work in progress.

If he was from a higher division, it only shows how poor refereeing standards have become. A string of baffling decisions, failure to deal with obvious offences properly, and a clear sense of pompous self-importance.
He gave a free kick to Clitheroe in the second half which nobody around me could see the reason for. He also awarded one against Densmore for a nothing challenge, and allowed them to take it three yards forward and four yards more central. He paced out ten rather short yards for a free kick, then turned away without checking if it was adhered to. Callum Jones was lectured in the first half for an innocuous challenge which was the cause of him being booked for his first real foul.
I was particularly annoyed that he played an advantage to us after a bad challenge, but didn't go back to give a yellow when the ball was dead.
All in all he was absolute garbage. If Moult was sent off for calling him a **** he was merely telling the truth.

Don't know if this true but rumours have circulated that Crystal Palace scouts were
In the ground today watching JJ,message for them scouts sod off he is not for sale.
-
Ref actually from a lower level than us
Red was probably correct in law although quite soft IMHO
I think he then totally lost the game
I anticipate a less than optimal mark

It'd be no surprise to hear that scouts are watching JJ as a player with his raw ability should not be in our league.

Whilst I have seen Yannick Bolasie play at Moss Lane I wouldn't get too worried...

Love JJ but he has a lot to learn. His distribution isn't great. Love watching him play and buzzing he is at Alty but miles of the Premiership league. Only one player I've ever seen at Alty who I thought could play Premiership and Championship level and that is Duncs.

Yes, nowhere near Premier League, I'm just saying it'd be no surprise if there are scouts keeping tabs on him.

Yeah I agree. In time I think he will be a National League or league 2 player.

Have to agree with this. He looks decent at our level but he'd struggle to hold down a place at a full time Conf National level side never mind the Premier League!

That diving bastard got Dens sent off then proceeded to foul Robbie Lawton which kept him out for quite a few games. He played for Rushden around 2007 ish

Good luck to JJ should a full time club come in for him, as long as they loan him back for the remainder of this season.
-
I liked the way jj took the young right back under his wing, constantly talking to and encouraging him.
-

I agree, but it has happened before. Crewe Alexandra signed him from Leek Town in the season when he played so well against us, and then loaned him back to Leek. In the end, it didn't quite work out at Crewe, but he is playing below his natural level.
-
I think he needs to realise he doesn't always need to do it all himself. Too often he takes on one player too many and ends up losing the ball.
It is exciting to see him on the ball though.
-
Excellent 2nd half ...some lovely football leading to the goals incl a great bit of skill from thommo...
I could tell from the 2nd minute we were in store for a display of the very worst everyone look at me youve all come to see me narcissistic display of incompetent refereeing for a while....he did superbly to make a quiet game into a mare.....
-
Can any refs confirm the correct way to stop and restart the game in the event of something being said worthy of a red...coz the guy restarted with a free kick to clitheroe where they had the ball...
Also if a fouler is booked does the foulee have to go off the pitch after receiving treatment??

It is an indirect free kick against the person who swore at the ref where the person caused the offence. It is also an indirect free kick for unsporting behaviour if a player has to stop play to caution a player for dissent.
On the 2nd question. I don't know what the exact FIFA directive on when players have to go off the pitch or not.

I'm sure there was a change in the rules this year regarding enforced removal from the pitch after treatment. I will have a look and see if I can find it.

Copy and lasted for direct from he FA website...
The referee:
allows play to continue until the ball is out of play if a player is only slightly injured
stops play if a player is seriously injured and ensures that the player is removed from the field of play. An injured player may not be treated on the field of play and may only re-enter after play has restarted; if the ball is in play, re-entry must be from the touchline but if the ball is out of play, it may be from any boundary line. Exceptions to the requirement to leave the field of play are only when:
a goalkeeper is injured
a goalkeeper and an outfield player have collided and need attention
players from the same team have collided and need attention
a severe injury has occurred
a player is injured as the result of a physical offence for which the opponent is cautioned or sent off (e.g. reckless or serious foul challenge), if the assessment/treatment is completed quickly
ensures that any player bleeding leaves the field of play. The player may only re-enter on receiving a signal from the referee, who must be satisfied that the bleeding has stopped and there is no blood on the equipment
if the referee has authorised the doctors and /or stretcher bearers to enter the field of play, the player must leave on a stretcher or on foot. A player who does not comply, must be cautioned for unsporting behaviour
if the referee has decided to caution or send off a player who is injured and has to leave the field of play for treatment, the card must be shown before the player leaves
if play has not been stopped for another reason, or if an injury suffered by a player is not the result of an offence, play is restarted with a dropped ball
I think the section in boldness is what we are looking for. As long as the referee doesn't deem the treatment as taking too long and the offence that caused the injury is a caution or a sending off the player doesn't have to leave the pitch.
