Altrincham ticket sales suspended

There is over an inch of snow on the pitch and the exposed terraces. Even if that isn't a lot compared to some parts of the country, there is more snow falling heavily now, and underneath the snow the pitch is already frozen. Therefore, we have suspended ticket sales for Saturday's game against Altrincham.

The FA is understandably keen that every game is given the maximum possible chance of going ahead and so pitch inspections cannot take place before Friday morning - and even then only under 'extreme weather' conditions. Nonetheless, we will be in regular contact with the FA so that we can keep fans up to date.

If Saturday's game is called off, it can be played the following Tuesday, 12 January. If the weather prevents any postponed game being played on that date, then we understand that Trophy ties take precedence over midweek league games (but not Saturday league games) - so if the extreme weather persists we might find that the home game against Grays is displaced by this Trophy tie.

This information is published to allow fans to make whatever contingency arrangements they feel are appropriate - we stress that no decision has been made about Saturday's game.

League games should have priority over everything.

Well, its not looking good at the moment. The weather forecast is not good for melting the snow by saturday. Then it looks like Kettering will be lost. However im not too confident that the weather would have significantly improved by tuesday, therefore i wouldnt be suprised if the re-arranged match with wimbledon would be called off again. Meaning that the mansfield game will have to make way for a third attempt for the trophy game, and if we eventually win that our home game against stevenage would add to the growing list of games needing to be re-arranged.

Therefore we could be looking at the following games in our backlog...
Wrexham (home and away)
Eastbourne (home)
York (home)

Possibles
Kettering (Home) (if Wimbledon is postponed)
Mansfield (away) (if wimbledon is postponed again)
Stevenage (Home) (if we eventually win in the trophy)

League games should have priority over everything.

Why's that? I think it would be perfectly sensible to play the Trophy game on the 12th if it's postponed on the 9th. We can play the home league game with Kettering at any time in the season because it doesn't determine the make-up of any other fixture. But the 3rd round trophy tie that will feature either ourselves or Wimbledon can only be played once our 2nd round game is decided.

This is going to have an impact on loads of clubs and as not many BSP players will need rest before the World Cup I can only see the league season being extended by a couple of weeks to cope with this.

On a really selfish note im working in London next week so AFC W in the trophy on the 12th would be a bonus after the xmas disaster. However, there's probably only a handful of alty fans that would be happy about it, and that can make it to the game. Not to mention the fact that the players will suffer greatly from a midweek trip to London.

I live about 15 miles from Kingston and this morning the snow on my front lawn was 14cms deep - and it has been snowing all day. It only started snowing down here last night.
You can forget about Saturday. I will still go to a re-arranged game on a Tuesday night.
Maybe you shoud feel more sorry for the England cricket team getting roasted!!!!

seems a bit daft, our game could be off saturday and rearranged for tuesday, what if tuesday is poor in london but not in manchester, our league game would be off for no reason.  Long term weather forcasts should be looked at here.

Hats off to AFC who seem to be a club not only determined to keep fans updated and prepepared but are probably the only club who would suspend ticket sales and not rip off the public by taking money for a match that is doubtful.

Todays update - looking v doubtful for Saturday

Pitch update

The pitch at Kingsmeadow is under about three inches of snow and the surrounding areas including the car park are very icy. The chances of the FA Trophy game against Altrincham going ahead on Saturday are very remote and a formal pitch inspection by an appointed referee will take place tomorrow lunchtime.

The result of that inspection will be announced afterwards.

Not trying to be negative at all but I can see it being a good 2 or 3 weeks before ML is fit for play and that's if it starts to warm up next Monday or Tuesday.
