My niece works in the offices at Tesco in Alty. The police told Tesco to shut as they had been informed that about 900 Millwall supporters were coming up not to watch the game but to fight with Alty, city and united supporters and to all meet at Tesco in Alty.Of course this did not happen, and again made the Policeaswell as Tesco look silly.Tesco were told by a boss higher up than the local branch they had to stay open. The police told Tesco if they did open and there was an icidend they would not send any officers.
Glad to hear the Millwall fans caused no problems,as i have said before i know one and he is old school fan, working class and proud of it.
Sorry H but this is in fact not quite correct.
I was with the match commander all afternoon and a 'serial' was deployed to TESCO at one point because they had contacted the Police due to a number of the (reportedly 200 in total) Millwall fans who had travelled without tickets causing concerns although actually doing nothing. The group in question was moved on.
I wouldn't normally bother replying but I am still suffering from a good away day hangover and decided to bite. You really are mugging yourself off here mate do you honestly expect anyone to believe that 200 Millwall without tickets turned up at Tesco looking for trouble and stood around and then got moved on! Lets look at the facts.
If 200 strong Millwall hardcore traveled without tickets to kick off - they'd have kicked off
If 200 Millwall were rounded up by Old Bill they wouldn't have been moved on they'd either have been taken to the ground to join others there or escorted back to a station and put on trains or police escorted coach to outskirts of town and radio contact kept with coach till safely up the motor way.
we only sold poxy 300 odd tickets (Piss poor turn out but not surprising the way we've been playing) so no reason to go withourt tickets and lets be really silly here if there had been an off organised and it was a no show dont you think they'd have thought sod it we may as well go to the game now we are here and yet NONE of the SO CALLED 200 turned up.
Sure your a steward and not just another keyboard wanna be someone, also sorry to be the barer of bad news but Altrincham havent quite made the Millwall hit list
Moving on as many smaller teams have found the hype is greater than the real thing and we aint so bad when we dont have a beef with you, but if you pull the lions tail expect to be biten.
AS for the two van loads of sh*tty that turned up seems their voices were the only thing they were prepared to used and they were treated with the destain they deserved and just laughed at and ignored.
Too bloody cold to sing and to be honest not much to sing about but a wins a win.
Good luck with the rest of your season fellas and remember dont believe everything you read sure a quick call to Tescos will reveal the most excitment they had yesterday was Betty from frozen food getting her fish battered.
