I really don't want an Alty app nor want any budgets we have go into an app.

I spent a huge chunk of 2018 building and getting people to sign up an app (around 100k users).

The return on investment just isn't worth it. And that app had payment, loyalty and a micro site inside.

I was recently quoted £80k for an app build from scratch which tbf inc a day's 'user's workshop'. Even allowing for the fact I don't know what I'm talking about IT wise, stripping that out and a bit of negotiating I'm sure the majority of us would rather see that kind of money spent on other things.

TBF to him, last night's game was effectively the start of his interview with the new owners who'll probably have been advised there'll be people queueing up for the job (they may even have someone lined up already) - and he's fluffed his first question. Not that fans forums mean anything (!) but Wrexham's suggest the Cowley Bros which is a good shout.

It could be argued that Harvey was worse

100%.

We wouldn't have gone down if Neil Young was manager for the duration of the season.

We wouldn't have finished in the top half either, but he'd have eventually settled on a squad that did just about enough.

Jim Harvey's reign did the most damage, for me. Coming in he needed to settle on a squad and system that would start getting some results - but the door revolved at a faster pace than it was doing under Young.

One thing's for certain, Neil Young would not have played Danny Hattersley and Craig Hobson at centre half.

Anyway, massive congrats to Marine. Great club.

I'm sorry but with respect, this is absolute rubbish. Neil Young had already destroyed us with the most bewildering recruitment policy I think I've ever witnessed. He also seemed to move heaven and earth to secure the services of the aforementioned Hobson and Hattersley that had rival clubs scratching their heads.

When he said in an interview that he'd basically keep on recruiting and shipping out until he got it right, that should have been alarm bells - he did the same thing at Stockport too, remember - they'd never seen such an extraordinary turnover of players in such a short period of time.

Jim Harvey had a reputation as a troubleshooter - a Sam Allardyce of this level, if you will - you could argue it was us that finished him off.

It's water under the bridge now but I've got to disagree with Andrew, although the biggest mistake was not appointing Bower and Boshell who had just been sacked by Guiseley. They went on to steer a then bottom of the league BPA clear of relegation, inc their first win at, yes guess who. What all three  appointments had in common was the recruitment process - there wasn't one to speak of. The first time we did, post relegation, we got PP and NS. Lesson learned I think.

I would have no hesitation in bringing JJ back. Phil & Neil got the best out of him & I am convinced that he could be a success in the National League.
He made an outstanding contribution over two & a half seasons.

Isn't this the point - we've got a management team that get the best out of players and seem to be building a reputation of providing EFL clubs real added value rather than merely open age competitive football for their young loanees. Clear to anyone from his time here JJ had pace to burn and plenty of ability, he just needed the right coaching, so he's exactly the same at Chester but with different results. By the way, if anyone was offered double their wages in a profession which is one clumsy tackle from ending would you turn it down?

PP mentioned he'd been in contact with Mansfield on his performance so it looks like they're keeping tabs on his progress. He's in the mould of a Nigel Clough player, perhaps a long loan might be a possibility?

Nigel Huddleston MP on the £300m funding:

"The majority of this funding will be given through low interest loans, with flexible repayment terms. Grants where organisations are unable to repay loans."

"The first tranche of support will be distributed by the end of the year."

Obviously rode our luck, but considering the injury list and a starting line up with 3 loanees at match 9 an excellent result. As others have commented the manner of the winning goal was important, to prove to the players as much as anyone else, that we can play PP and NS's brand of football in this league. Just not all the time and against every team.

Anyway, just for the moment we're above Yeovil, Dagenham, Weymouth and Barnet with Macc not even in sight - just like (very) old times.

Loathe to criticise anyone owing to the conditions today but I've thought for a while that Tom Peers isn't really up to the job. Dont mind if people think otherwise but he's never convinced me.

Rain should have stopped play. As Pete said in the pub, in the FA Cup or playing Halifax it'd have been off.

But some of his touches were abysmal and wouldn't have look out of place when were playing Matlock or Coalville.

Cisse's frustration/attitude to conditions also disappointed me. Don't run through puddles ask for longer balls to chase through the middle.
Kosolo cheap cards also a concern. Lucky not to be suspended.

But franky what worried me was the bench. A CB, defensive CM, LB accompanied by an unproven reserve player and Max Clayton whose not been prolific in pre-season. With such poor conditions I never felt there was a plan B. Each player came on and tried to pass through water or worse run the ball through.

Conditions side; Durrelll Lundstrum and Hulme all need to be replaced. Williams and Peers aren't anywhere close to their standard.

Kosylo does this I think, agree on the other two. Sean W always at his best when we dominate possession, unlikely to do this for long spells this season.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Jordan Hulme
« on: October 04, 2020, 11:31:40 AM »
I was shocked and surprised when I heard this as I really thought Jordan was an Alty loyalist.  I am not sure this will prove to be a good move for him, and it does suggest his ambition is maybe burned out, and he wants to cash in for his last few seasons playing.  I get that and I am sure it wasn't an easy decision for him to make - just disappointed to see him go - he was brilliant for us - as good as any striker we have had in the last 30 years - and I was so looking forward to him making National League defences look like clowns

Jordan was an Alty loyalist.  In March when he appeared on the Non League Lounge podcast he said that there was huge interest from Chester same time as JJ but he did not join them out of respect and repayment to Parky for what he had done for Jordan over the last three years.  He talked about a mutual loyalty in football.  However, I guess that goes out the window when it's full time football and big money on the table which I don't think anyone can blame him for.  Much different situation to JJ who joined a direct rival for promotion (ha) halfway through the season, combined with the smugness that the deal was done with on Chester's end.

You’re right about that. Jordan took the money to drop down a level, unlike JJ. Which is fair enough if the money was good enough, but it wasn’t through misguided ambition. A “loyalist” is probably stretching it a bit.

He's liked a tweet by Sean Miller suggesting he might have been disappointed the club accepted a bid for him in the first place.

I think it's unfair to throw the moneygrabbing thing at him, when in truth that works both ways. We didn't have to accept a bid.

If the release clause was triggered the club were duty bound to let Fylde speak to him and / or his agent. After that it was Jordan's decision.

This is the perennial problem with supporting a team like Alty, as soon as someone gets noticed by other teams with bigger pockets, they're on their way. First JJ, now Jordan. The season is devalued before its even started for me now.

I know people will be sore and a bit shocked but come on it's a fact of footballing life. When JJ left it was sack cloth and ashes on here - what happened then? For Fylde not to want to disclose the fee after their embarrassing show and tell over Ryan Croasdale's wages and given Jordan signed a new contract a few weeks ago where there will have been a release clause, it'll be serious £. We need to see how PP and NS go about using it now - if past experience is anything to go by, I'm confident.

It's not the start we wanted, obviously, but this season was always going to be a fight anyway, it's just got a bit more difficult sooner than we'd have wanted that's all.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Live streaming of game tomorrow
« on: September 29, 2020, 04:05:02 PM »
Just to stress that tonight is very much a technical rehearsal as far as Alty TV is concerned. A lot of preparation and hard graft has gone into this over the last few days but there are still a few unknowns which we will test for the first time tonight (e.g. linking up with the PPV platform). Will be taking baby steps to start with but have exciting plans to add to the service as we go along.

The same goes for the operations around the managing stream, lots of work has gone into making this a success at short notice so a big thank you to everyone for your patience in waiting for the season ticket code this afternoon.

As MadFrankie says, they should all now be in your email inbox.

If you can't find the email after checking your junk please contact the club using the contact page on the website.

Nice one all.

Received my e mail at 15:26.

Report on the radio said it's not yet clear if this means liquidation and receivership or if they'll be allowed to appeal. So it may not be all over quite yet.

I think that's dead wrong. The next step is for MTFC Ltd to be removed from Cos House. The Court then appoints an Official Reciever to act as a Liquidator to wind up the company and then see if the creditors can be paid what they're owing. There's no appeal process, that's it.

R5 saying they have five days to either pay the debt or appeal the decision. Only then will they be liquidated.

Just a reminder that Macc have definitely gone.

Not until tomorrow I thought?* Knowing them, something will turn up.

*by that I mean after midnight tonight 😉

Looks like the 5 days was 5 business days from last Wednesday - so you're right it's today.

« on: September 22, 2020, 12:58:34 PM »
Telegraph journalist Jim White:

"Just spoke to the chairman of a National League side. The league has said it is now not going to start without fans. But furlough ends next month. Which means there is going to be wholesale redundancy for players, coaching staff and administrators. Disaster looms for many clubs."

As it stands Step 3 and below can continue with reduced capacity but Steps 1 and 2 cannot. So South Shields will be playing in front of 600 but Gateshead, 6 miles away, face having their season cancelled and perhaps their entire playing staff laid off. Either a cap on attendances for National League clubs and/or a financial support package needs to be put in place.

Macc will always be our principal rivals, like Burnley and Halifax or indeed Glasgow Celtic and Rangers FC (Liquidated) reformed as RFC 2012 plc.
