Alty V Wrexham ~ going back in time
« on: April 19, 2010, 09:45:45 PM »

Cutting a longish story short, the following comes from a Wrexham fan who works with one of my family. Dates uncertain...

Can anybody out there give any more details, dates, scorers, attendances etc? (How many crosses Wrexham put in would be a bonus)

thanks
=================================

It was FA Cup 3rd Round, Altrincham vs Wrexham.  The first match was abandoned after 30 minutes because of fog, with the score 0-0.  The match had been picked for Match of the Day (a massive event for any club outside the 1st Division), because non-league Altrincham were thought to have a very good giant-killing chance against Wrexham, who were bottom of the 3rd Division.  There was about a minute shown on grainy black-and-white TV, which looked even grainier in the fog.

The match was played again on the Wednesday afternoon – no flood lights.  I skipped school, and went with one of my pals who had just passed his test - The score was 0-0.

The next week Wrexham won the replay 3-0.

If anyone can research this further, I do know that it was 1963.
