Barrow fan in peace.

I am travelling from Liverpool for the match on Tuesday. The trains are telling me to change and hop on the Metro, the problem I am seeing is that the departure time is exactly the same as the arrival time on every journey.

I have 2 questions related to the above:

1: Is the ground far from the Metro station if I was able to catch the Metro.
2: Is it just easier to plan to get a taxi (Approx cost) and what station is easier and closer to get the taxi from i.e. Deansgate, Oxford Road

The ground is only a few minutes walk up Moss Lane from Altrincham's Metro Station, which is where the trams terminate, and it would definately be a lot cheaper than a taxi.If you come out of the station on to the main road with the clock tower, and turn left, then left at the first set of lights, you are on Moss Lane. On the way to the ground you will pass Tesco's on your right and the Bridge Inn on your left, keep going up that road and the football ground will soon come into sight.

The Metro runs like every 12 minutes I think off peak so you will be able to catch any.

Taxi about £15 one way.
Metro Return about £4.50 return (maybe cheaper)

You can also go from Liverpool Lime Street to Chester, then Chester to Altrincham. It's very slightly quicker, with the down side being that if you miss your train at Chester you'll be waiting an hour for the next one, whereas the metro is very regular.

Know this is probrably stating the obvious, but ensure at Deansgate/Piccadilly that you get on an Altrincham tram, some go to Bury/Eccles and are marked accordingly.

They are clearly marked, but in a ursh it can be an easy mistake to make.

Any Barrow fans heading for Altrincham next week from the north are advised to avoid the A56 between Sale and Altrincham. There are extensive roadworks on the already busy trunk road. You are best advised to get to Altrincham via the M60 and M56. A map is here. *

it should also be pointed out that if the barrow fans steal pool balls and put them in a sock and hang around with a school boy called the chief they will not be welcome
