Think we shall call you Rodney.
Now, name the only player to score a goal against Liverpool?
The clue is in the question.

Love to talk to you on Sat Gorden
Will be in the bar at 12-30, or on the Flaggs during the game.

becuase people/arseholes cant talk about alty without slagging peoples opinions off or childish peaking/goodwin

i put in a topic to talk about and people pick holes into it becuase they've got nothing better to do, the forum should be a bit of fun not earning brownie points

Back to the topic... our record under Heathcoate's management in the FA Cup was poor. Not sure if it was his fault - his passion just never seemed to tranfer to the lads.

If lee can get us playing positive football, which he is doing on occasions, we can do a lot better against bsp teams in perticular, I think we had lost a lot of games before we even got on the pitch in recent seasons, if vics can go on an fa cup run with the right mentality we certainly can

I've got a theory taht we just became pants once prize money was introduced, on the basis that we were getting lads in on character who weren't motivated by money for all the Unibond games and stuff. No surprise then that their ears didn't prick up at the sound of cash and glory in the FA Cup, unlike most of their cup opponents?

but if clubs like vics and harrogate railway were able to go on runs why can't we? There players aren't on a bomb surely?

To be fair to Heathcote, he didn't pick the draw and we have had some awful luck of the draw over the past 5 or 6 years - Mansfield away, Rushden Away. etc.. All tough places to get a result. Even the games we've won against lower teams (newcastle blue star / kendal) were tricky away ties. Also, with a bit more luck, we could have beat Millwall and Luton.

Hopefully this year we can get a few easy home draws against lesser teams up until the first round. It would be great to get to the 3rd round of the FA cup and get a big premier league club, but realistically the best we can hope for is to get to the 1st round and get a nice tie away at either Sheffield Wednesday or Sheffield United - it would almost certainly be shown on TV and at about an hours travelling time we could easily take 1,000 away fans for a massive party.

I think being relegated and made to start two rounds earlier will be a big help for us actually. Beat Witton (which, lets face it, will be a major surprise if we don't) then hopefully another home tie and then 4QR we could get anyone. We'll already make 4.5k more than we normally do from the Cup with one win and rather than a struggling team getting a break from the league and feeling under pressure to win, hopefully we'll be a team looking up and full of confidence going into the Cup ties this year. I remember a classic Cup run back in the days when we always had to go in from the 1st/2nd QR to reach the competition proper, it would start with sides 2/3 leagues lower and gradually build up to the tougher games as the 1st round honed into view (90/91 and 92/93 were both like this).

so much of a clubs success / failure in the cup is based on luck at our level.

home draw or away draw?  team above you or lower down the pyramid?

no control over these these at all, so luck IS needed.

Having said that, once you know who you're playing and where it should be scouting, assessing, planning, picking the right team and tactics, and recently we just have not done that adequately.

Albion at home is a winnable game, and with luck may be the start of c cup run, but that depends who you pull out the hat in a totally random draw.

What I'm saying is it wasn't all GHs fault.

One thing I will say is under heathcoate there was a certain inevitability when we failed in the cup due to his style of play and type of players, it was suited to keeping us in the league and not giant killing which is fair enough, sinnot does not have this problem of looking down he can look up the table

Really, i thought we could have won the Millwall game if Chris Lane hadn't been very unlucky to be sent of for handball.

That should have been our biggest giant kill in recent years.

That should have been our only giant kill in recent years.

Corrected for you.
