I've heard Chuck Norris won't go near a tackle from Gerry Casey!

Ian Horrigan and Joe Paladino were good amatuer boxers I believe but with regards to Gerry Casey. The story of him going to the bar at a Rotherham (?) game that the team were at because it was an opportunity to watch their future cup oppnents (Casey said if the strikers brilliant I don't want to spend 2 weeks crapping myself and if he's pants then I'll obviously be the winner regardless) - well that sprung to mind last week when Martin Keown (an excellent domestic defender and steady international) said virtually the same thing with regards to mental preparation in football (on footy focus).

Andy Green. I remember him walking the ball into the Chequers End net from the halfway line with 11 men bouncing off him one by one. At least it seemed like that...  ;D

I remember a period in the mid-80's when Eddie Bishop got sent off several times for fighting.

Casey and Kingy by a street followed by Tommy Banks and Derek 'Tank' Halliwell.
I'd say Kingy edged it as he had skill to go with it!  :D

I nearly added Derek Halliwel to my previous post. Not a great footballer, but he'd have run through a brick wall for the team, and NOBODY took liberties with him. I'd recycle him into that 6 shirt right now if I could.

Nails!

Thats the face he pulled when i accidentally knocked his specs off on the popular side whilst celebrating a goal. I still have nightmares. I believe he has trimmed up since then in an effort to be even harder (at least less podgy).

As stated on another thread, Kingy has publicly acknowledged Gerry Casey as the hardest man that he ever encountered on a football pitch.

Some other names to conjure with:

Barry Knowles: former Wigan Athletic left full back who played for Alty in the late 1980s.
Some of his tackling terrified me;

Jeff Johnson: a tremendous and durable competitor who played a lot of his career in an era when fearsome centre halfs had carte blanche to kick you up in the air at every opportunity;

Joe Flaherty: well, he certainly got booked or even sent off quite regularly.....but was he truly a hard nut; simply daft or perhaps teetering on the edge of being a psychopath...?!
