Blue Square Bet North club Altrincham have signed James Holden from Evo-Stik Northern league Division neighbours FC United of Manchester.
A tough-tackling and creative midfielder, Holden spent two seasons at Ashton United following his release from Bury where he had spent four years with the Gigg Lane club from the age of 13.
Following an unsuccessful trial at Conference Premier outfit Barrow, Holden signed for Vauxhall Motors from FC United in the summer of 2008 having begun the previous season with Chorley.
He turned out to be a key figure in Carl Macauley’s side in 2008/09, playing forty-one games and scoring three goals.
He moved to Welsh Premier League side Bala Town in the summer of 2009 and then returned again to FC United.
In September 2011 he joined Curzon Ashton, only to return to the Reds once more just over a month later.
