Title: Maidenhead Match Thread
Post by: oneedham on September 24, 2023, 09:53:10 AM
What I really liked about Parky in previous seasons, is that he just played every game with his best 11 and formation. Now he talks about adapting to teams, he said it again after yesterday and that is a worry.
It is so clear we are much better with an attacking front 4. We can be a playoff team.
When we have become defensive, wingbacks etc we have conceded quite a few goals and look disorganised.
Keep attacking teams, let them worry about us. We beat the best team in the division, Chesterfield, playing that way for the entire 90 mins.

                                     Ross

Donowa     Cooper/Roscoe    Baines     E.Jones

                  Osborne       Marriott

Amaluzor                CCC                 Newby

                             Sithole

I would start Sithole for the higher press. The above team has loads of pace and would destroy opposition on the counter.

Really believe Donawa can be that RB we have missed since Senior. He is actually decent at defending, bags of pace and overlaps, which Banks doesn't do. Him and Amaluzor on one side is frightening.

Concern is Osborne picked up a knock and J Jones has to start. Really short in CM.

Hopefully we continue to be positive.

That's the team I'd like to see start at Maidenhead for sure.

PS. Got an NLP at WHS on the motorway services. Back home and reading it very smugly at the moment 😂 😂

Maidenhead have done v well to swim against the tide as a part time team at this level but I think this could be the season where their luck finally runs out. Really need to follow Ebbsfleet with 4/6 from the next two as both sides will be near the bottom come April. Attacking them from the off & getting on the front front will be key, against an opponent low on confidence.

I swear to God, if Parky p1sses about with it and doesn't just go with the same system... I'm so anxious my heart will sink when I see the lineup.

Don't worry Marple 👍. In Parky we trust! Same team for the next two barring injuries and easing Sithole into it is the way forward. He must know that.

Just out of interest, why would people drop Dior Angus?

He's building a good understanding with those around him and contributed heavily to a lot of the good moments on Saturday. Why change it?

Completely agree with your point about Osbourne and Jo.Jones. He is not good enough to even be on the bench. Has too many errors in him and way off the pace. Not a Alty player. Banks is in a similar position for me and should warm the bench for Donawa this season.

Keep this 11 fit and bring in Linney/Kossy and playoffs here we come.

I go with the team in the op.

Dont dislike Dior but hes not 'a back to goal' type of striker.

Maidenhead 0-2 Alty (Con-Clarke, Amaluzor)

For me, why change a winning team.

Barring injuries/fatigue, same starting 11 for me.

Come on Alty

My view too although would work on seeing what Sithole can do with his supposed pace.
Maidenhead are pretty good defensively and someone else fast on the break might be useful.

Sithole has been out for 8 months with Meniscus injury, I would utilise as a substitute initially. Interesting, he was about to come on on Saturday, but at last minute Parky swapped to Roscoe. We'll find out tomorrow night..

Sithole will be introduced with sub appearances - no idea why people suggest he starts over Dior Angus at this point - especially given I doubt many on this forum have watched him play.

Almost as bizarre as the suggestion that Regan be dropped after his 1-game goal drought v Dagenham.

No need to discuss dropping Regan. Going by what's on another thread, he looks likely to be out until the new year! 🙄

Whilst they've actually conceded less goals than we have (15 from 11 games) they clearly have problems up front, since they've got the second worst strike rate in the league with only 7 goals scored. If we keep it tight at the back I can see us not having too many problems.

Maidenhead 0-1 Alty (Donawa)

Very much agree with this now the league appears to be taking some kind of shape after the raft of topsy turvy results . Away wins are still never easy so that scoreline will do very nicely thank you 👍

Hope Alty keep the hammer down tonight, same style as we started last Saturday, I’m sure PP will pick the right formation.

Maidenhead 0 - 3 Alty.

Let’s keep the run going….

Get at them from the off and we will win. Heart says Ebbsfleet at home team and a win, head says Fylde and York away team and draw.

Please prove me wrong Parky and don’t play with 8 defensive players

Those of you who, like me, are streaming tonight's match should note that you can also watch the end of Rochdale v Chesterfield as it's an 8pm kick off.

Why oh why change a winning team (unless injuries), Jo.Jones is a liability and has so many mistakes in him. Donawa, Angus and Osbourne to come on and secure the win with 20 mins to go. Parky is going to end up the Tinkerman.

O’Neils pub at the station was pretty good with some nice cask on sale. Freezing now though

Class finish from CCC, deserved the win, but don't like the tinkering with the team.

Fully deserved. I can’t recall them having a shot on target. We almost looked like we had another gear in us, even though it took a cracker to win it. A decent debut for young Sithole, he’ll get stronger. The defensive unit also very strong & our second straight away clean sheet is something to build on. As for Maidenhead they looked s very limited side, low on confidence. If there’s 4 worse sides than them this season I’ll be very surprised.

Got to go for it again Saturday, Oxford on a 8-0 aggregate from their last 2 matches, we’ll get plenty of chances.

Second clean sheet of the season for that back 5. Cooper and Baines are the partnership for Jones and Roscoe to break into.

Performances like that will see us makes the playoffs. Well done everyone and good to see a decent number travelled

Totally agree. I hope PP does not feel pressured to play the captain because he’s the captain. Cooper starting to show his worth and Baines is by far our best centre back.

A cracker from CCC and hopefully Elliot will be back in from the start on Saturday.

Same starting 11 as the Ebbsfleet game and another high scoring game in store at Oxford.

They definitely had a shot on target. Cleared off the line first half.

J Jones looked unlikely to play on Saturday when he hopped off. Looked like ankle injury. I thought he did OK tonight he covered a heck of a lot of ground and didn’t do anything silly or great but was efficient enough at the basics.

CCC was infuriating tonight so many loose passes in good positions. Redeemed himself with the goal though which is why he stays on even when having a poor game. Gerald put an OK shift in but wasn’t given much service and is too short to hold up or flick on the long balls so needs a bit more quality to work with. Angus harried their back line really well when he came on which is what was needed at that point.

A ground were we have got nothing in the past so tonight was a good feeling.
Not the best game but 3 points is a great achievement against a part time team who would
Have been up for it at 0745
Sign of a good team when you go away and not play brilliant but get the points.
Onto Saturday in front of the TV cameras Oxford will be up for it,looking forward to it,great
Opportunity to show the rest of the NL what we are about.

It's looking like Regan is our first choice 9 and Dior is more effective as an impact sub.
CCC can always produce some magic, even when he doesn't play well. In years to come, we will look back and realise just how wonderful he was.
I couldn't go last night, but from what I saw on Saturday, we don't look bad at all.
Can't wait for the next one.

Slope doesn't help.

Think we are all fairly agreed on our best starting eleven now and i know it's frustrating when we field an understrength team who more often than not don't perform to our best standard or gel as good.. I feel that Phil knows this yet he also sees the players on a daily basis and understands that each of his squad are individuals whose endurance levels may differ and also  react to knocks or other ailments differently so is best placed of course to decide who or who might not be fully match ready . As a former senior Athletics coach i am well used to dealing with a multitude of individual sportsmen who either physically or psychologically either feel or are deemed not ready for action ( and that was in a non contact Sport ! ) .
