Altrincham FC First Team / Re: BPA at home again

The issue with the corners was at Odsal, Bradford after the Halifax Dukes speedway team moved there for the 1986 season. I don't  remember the corners of the pitch needing to be moved at the Shay as there was room for the pitch in the middle of the speedway track. In fact just checking some old videos on YouTube shows the corners of the pitch intact as racing goes on. On a Saturday the speedway would start at 7.30 barely two hours after the football ended.  The speedway team left Halifax due to financial disagreements with the football club, and were in fact getting bigger crowds than the football team. It wasn't because of issues with the pitch. As the speedway track had recently been relaid at Bradford for the 1985 world championship final a move to Odsal seemed to make sense, although the crowds were never very good when I used to go.

The corner segments at the Shay were removable. They were basically a timber triangle containing a piece of mud. I remember Steve Peplow of Tranmere Rovers slipping on his backside trying to take a corner. Not a player who liked the physical side of the game he had a look of distaste at his dirty shorts.

I would guess it’s to cover for James Jones who’s an injury doubt. Presumably if we could recall Harrison or Goulding, assuming they’re match fit, we’d just do that?

Interesting. Josh Langley and Tom Hannigan were the centre back pairing for two seasons at Fylde. Reached the play off both years.

Interestingly they've got a thread going with a poll for who'd they'd like in the next round.

Over the past 3/4 years I've seen us go to EP and afford County far too much respect. It won't be like that with this Alty team, I don't think. Saturday could be anything but I wouldn't be at all surprised if we blew them out of the water. Nothing to fear.

2-2 - Harrop and Hulme.

Exactly this-have we even scored a goal there? It’s basically two mid-table (and I suspect that’s where we’ll both finish) sides with a great chance to make the first round proper. Going by our recent performance and goalscoring record I suspect we have more momentum going into this one then they do. I think we can and will shade it, gutted I can’t make it.

Tom Hannigan has scored there for Fylde in 15/16.

Sounds like they don't clean the beer lines properly. On the subject of Wainwright's, why doesn't the club sell a beer from one of the huge number of Greater Manchester breweries rather than one brewed in Wolverhampton? Ashton United have their own cask beer. I'm sure that someone would be willing to brew or re-badge a beer for Alty.

Tom Hannigan unlikely  to play today. Picked up a slight hamstring  strain against Trafford. As Ben Harrison isn't 100% for wouldn't be wise to risk aggravating it in a friendly.

Didn't Leather get a massive pay rise to go to Chorley, and isn't he a key player for them? I notice their gates have dropped since they first arrived at NLN level, maybe their spending power isn't what it used to be (or are they well backed?) - him and Harrison would be immense, and that's assuming Hannigan can't play 42 games a season.

Perhaps a more realistic backup might be Luca, while we're on the subject of ex-players. Alty must be more local than BPA for him.

Elliott Newby would be my personal number one target.

Hannigan is 100% fit and looking to play every game next season.

Buxton set out to frustrate by playing an unattractive almost anti-football style. The referee failed to clamp down on their persistent fouling. I can understand teams don’t want to get tonked by us, but I’ve got far more respect for teams that try and play football like Barwell on sat (not the the away game against them though) than Buxton last night. I expect more of the same against shaw lane.
Nice little ground though.

A post match comment from one of the players "So physical it was like a boxing match on a dreadful pitch. Expect the same on Thursday."

They showed good discipline to grind out a draw.

Hoping Hannigan is available.

Happily take a draw and see what gives elsewhere.

 Buxton 1-1 Alty. Hulme.

Can't make it tonight. Good look  and safe journey to all.

Saturday's substitution was purely tactical at 4-0 up. It was just to give him a rest before this tough week. Fit and well.

Tranmere's game is off and their pitch is much better than Alty's. Most of the injured are unlikely to return this season.

Hannigan went off with slight left hamstring strain. Nothing to do with right knee. Happens when short of games.

The experience and quality offered by Dens and Hannigan is a big miss for us. Hopefully both back in the team ASAP.

Can't see Hannigan playing left wing

He played in every outfield position for Vauxhall Motors in the Conference North.

Hannigan once again to blame for a goal...

Anyone there know why Jones failed to start?

Sorry to spoil your agenda but despite erroneous reports elsewhere Hannigan was nowhere near the incident for the 1st penalty.

Agree that Hannigan can't cover for everyone, but he did look more comfortable at left back imo. If the management are going to play Heathcote, he should definitely play at centre back. But we are still short of a tall, commanding presence at the back.
We are down now, but if we want to play for pride, the management need to go a begging league clubs for the missing centre back on loan. We'll continue to concede 3 goals a game otherwise.
I must have missed something. Hannigan won every header, cleared the ball well  and passed to his own team mates. Left back? Alty went to three at the back to chase the game but he wasn't left back. If I was a defender in that team I 'd be wondering the midfield offer no protection whatsoever.
I was
With two wingers and two out-and-out strikers, it only left Jones and Taylor to offer that protection. But whilst I appreciate your point, the back four made a string of unforced errors and should have done much better.
The point I was  making was that I didn't see Hannigan making any errors. You could say that he could gave got back in position after winning the first ball but the midfield didn't compete to stop the return ball and no one tucked in behind him.
To answer a previous post the only football I play is 5 a side. I'm going back to lurking in the forum. Posting is too much like hard work.

Same problem as all season. You could have a different manager every match and we'd still have no centre backs.

Hannigan was excellent today as he was last week. Won every header. Can't cover for everyone.
