Title: This ere trophy thingummy
Post by: baldrick on December 10, 2007, 03:29:10 PM
How important do you rate this competition? Is there likely to be a good crowd or will it just be the hardcore 100 and a dog called Billy? My gut feeling is this should be played on a Tuesday night and Saturday should have been used for a league game. But as i am still reasonably new to non league football i accept the possibility that i might have got it completely wrong.

Don't worry chaps, I'll be coming along.

Have you thought about not segregating this game?

chester Cheshire senior cup 06/07 124 I'm guessing thats what he means.

No the Trophy is big, big in our history big in the grand scheme of things, would be nice to have a run but theres always two of the big boys who decide they want it this year and york look to me to be prime candidates for this as they are not doing to well in the league so will want to keep the fans faith some how. how better than a final at wembley.

For me the trophy is massive!!

3 trips to Wembley and 2 wins were brilliant.

A cup run would be great so many years since we had one, and lets not forget the money!!

Trophy is big - the non league FA Cup. Is it true we have won more matches than any other team in the trophy?

The Sultana Shield, however, should be played weekdays, as this is regional. Then we will have 1 or more less travels to the south of England on a Tuesday

Not many Darren, we don't do the FA Trophy.

I wonder if the ex-league clubs are interested at all in the Trophy. The FA Cup may still be their cup.

I think the answer to that is a resounding "no" but having said that, Exeter got to the semi-final a few seasons ago if memory serves. I remember Craig Farrell mentioning it in an interview I did with him.

Ultimately, what we do in the FA Trophy is up to the manager and the players. The fact that fans like me scoff at the competition means nothing if the team are going to go out and there and do their best to win. We have a caretaker manager who is trying to get the job on a permanent basis, so losing to Alty will do him no favours, just as giving Alty a battering will stand him in good stead.

I might stick a tenner on Alty though, the odds should be decent.

Altrincham 7/4
Draw 9/4
York 5/4

Oh no, a horrible thought just struck me - they don't do replays in the Trophy do they?

I hope not. If so, when would it be?!?

Tuesday night, the 18th, giving us pointless trips to york and nuneaton in the week before Christmas, to fit in nicely with our pointless trip to torquay two week before Christmas..

I don't see why they can't make it like the FA Vase where the two clubs can agree amongst themselves how they want to play it and whether or not they want extra time and pens or a straight replay.

I am sure if Heathcote and Walker got together they would definitely want to settle the game at the first attempt if it's a draw.

Even footballers have to do some shopping some time!

I dread to think when they'll fit Setanta replays in.

i heard it's extra time and pens if a draw on 90 mins. If it's 0-0 on 89 let's just put through our own net. Really can't be bothered with the whole competition. (unless we win it!)

Of course the trophy is big. Its also time we won it again. Lets hope these ex league clubs dont tke it too serious so the real non league teams can win it.

I am pretty sure that, in the event of a draw, the game at Nuneaton will go to extra time and possibly penalties. There is NOT a replay for this game.....

The stakes wouldn't be quite as high as our last penalty shoot out at Nunny though! :)
