Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Graham Barrow
« on: June 17, 2009, 01:13:02 PM »
If true this is sad news for the club because it is no coincidence that the improvement in football played has improved since Graham Barrow has been at the club. However great news for Graham and we should all wish him good luck. I cant understand where the clamour for Mark Maddox comes from though, yes he was a good club servant but we need a coach with experience and proven ability or we may start to move slowly backwards.

Thats true, but a hint that something was going to happen might encourage more people

483
It could be that there is nothing to discuss though and therefore the club shouldnt be despondent if nobody turns up.

I would have thought that that is the intention of having the fans forum tomorrow night to encourage us all to raise more funds and help to market the club.

Well done to Graham Heathcote and Graham Barrow and the team on achieving something that many of us didnt think would be done so early. I will confess to not being one of Graham's strongest supporters but believe in giving credit where it is due. Football is all about opinions and people are not above criticism and it is perfectly right for paying customers to voice concerns at paid employees if people believe that performances are not of a required standard. But thats for another time for now lets all enjoy the success whilst it lasts and have a great end to the season.

I would be delighted if we stayed up on the last day and my point is although probably not very succinct is that the club seems to be in the same situation year on year and lessons dont seem to be learned. If it goes to the last day I will be at Cambridge and have been there on each of the crucial last days since 1997 and on each and every occasion have celebrated or commiserated depending on the outcome.

Altrincham FC First Team / What has happened to this football club?
« on: April 04, 2009, 07:07:29 PM »
Over the last couple of months the feeling at the club has took a downturn and I cant understand why. We are having what most people are calling our best season for years when the Chairman puts out a puzzling press release about what level of footbal we may or may not be playing at next season, we then launch a good scheme for renewing season tickets but that follow that up by a comment from our vice-chairman that we will be playing with a conf north budget next season whether we stay up or go down (which surely wouldnt inspire additional season ticket sales) and we then hit a terrible run of form with an extended injury list, losing against teams on paper we should beat and players having a go at fans. The only way we will survive this season and succeeding next is by us all being positive and pulling together, but Im very sad at the moment to be an Altrincham fan.

To be fair supporters that have paid a lot of money to get down there surely have a right to speak their mind. I think the players and the manager should remember that sometimes.

Altrincham FC First Team / Worrying Times
« on: March 13, 2009, 03:23:39 PM »
With regards the manager's comments in the messenger (see main site) I wonder whether the drop in attendances could be down to the team's form rather than the credit crunch. It is easy for most companies including football clubs to blame the credit crunch as a foil for low profits but is it that simple? I would advocate that a win tomorrow would be a perfect start as a means for boosting attendances between now and the end of season. This should be the manager's main focus, and I find it ironic that only months after deterring fans with obscenities he is now begging fans to return but is an apology in the offing....

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Droylsden KICKED OUT of FA cup
« on: December 31, 2008, 12:29:58 PM »
There really isnt a defence, because the player was scheduled to miss the first game as of 23rd December as punishment for receiving 5 cautions. The Chesterfield match was on the 23rd December and it is therefore obvious that he should have been suspended for that game. Surely managers/secretarys have some sort of recording system for these things, even a basic calendar would have assisted them in this case. Droylsden had to be thrown out as it is is a similar case which befell Bury 2 years ago. If memory serves the Stalybridge affair concerned another club and international clearance which as we know can be a mindfield. It is not the FAs fault for Droylsden's incompetence. Lets club together and buy them a calender for 2009!

I was going to start writing a long essay about your one sided miss-guided views, but thankfully Ecky said what I wanted to in a more calming way.

I presume hes talking about the charity match again. If hes looking for an excuse to leave, blaming the fans for forcing him out is not fair. We all appreciate his efforts but he has made himself sensitive to comments about GH and taken them as abuse towards him.

Whilst raising money for cancer is a worthy cause, most people just don't like celebrity football matches.

I wasnt at the game on Saturday so didnt dish out any abuse, however his comment about the entrance fee has angered me. As a regular supporter for over ten years, and many who are disgruntled have been attending for many more years, I have spent much more than £12.00 and average that I will spend £500 on the club this season (including season ticket, shirts, away travel and gate fees, drinks in the bar etc) which i believe does allow me to be a bit aggrieved with the manager. Its not as if hes not getting paid. To use a quote from Graham Rowley, "if he doesnt like it, he knows where the door is".
