Saughall - Was that the Post Office side that played in the Altrincham and District Leagie in season 1967/8 and didnt win a game and withdrew from the league a few weeks before the season ended?  The two top teams in that League were St Hughes and Hayes Albion which included Frank Carrodus.

No. We were based at the sports and social club in quay street, manchester (near the opera house) but played on Mellands fields nr Belle Vue (along with about 200 other teams! )

Same years (ish) though. Played 68/9 to 70/1 then switched to rugby union as we got wed pm off work every other week to train.

On the whole, I think I prefer the worry over whether we'll finish top half or not!

I think he ended up at Burton and then in league 2 with them before going to mansfield.
Perhaps he thought he had a decent chance of full time league football then and didn't fancy the part-time game at alty.
After what he's been through, you never know, he just might relish the chance to be in the shop window again?

Of course it all depends on whether he's on contract beyond the end of the season where he is now - but what brought this to mind was Houldsworth saying he needed new forwards who could score goals after the home defeat to the wombles. Perhaps he doesn't rate him.

The Oxford fans that I travelled back on the trains with on Saturday said that this was their best performance in weeks.

For me, the difference between the sides was a goal-poaching striker who scores 20+ a year.

It's such a pity that this team hasn't got a 32 year old Colin Little in it - we'd definitely be giving the play-offs a shot next year.

I know many will not agree with me here but i believe that a fit welch will get into the team ahead of williams everytime. I think williams has been excellent at times this season but i dont think hes as good as welch, young or smith. I hope we keep hold of welch and he can get a good run next year.

I feel that needs highlighting to everyone on the forum.  Thats the gut feel of all the fans I am sure and now we know GH shares that view.  Colin Little IS the main reason why we stayed up in the BSP and Alty FC owes him for that contribution.

I take it you mean some more than others? Most of us were well aware of that
