Alfreton Town : match thread
« on: August 12, 2019, 08:15:25 AM »

If we don't take all three points tomorrow night, it won't quite be a disaster.....but it'll be pretty damn close. We're fortunate that we're only 5 points adrift after failing to win any of the first three games, so we could haul ourselves up the table with a string of decent results - and it has to start now.

I'd expect Josh Hancock to start in his usual role at the expense of Max Harrop, and Sean Williams for Simon Richman is the other possibility.

Nathan Arnold needs to come off the bench at some point, and show what he's really capable of, whilst Toby Mullarkey could have lots to offer. I can see him in a number of different roles, and I'd have slotted him into midfield for the last 20 minutes or so on Saturday when we were somewhat lacking in power in that department.

Alfreton seemed to take advantage of a Blyth Spartans outfit who already look like relegation fodder, and a narrow defeat at Brackley, followed by a draw at home to Boston, suggests that they've improved since we shoved seven past them at their place last season.

I take us to win 2-1 (Hancock, Hulme) and to kick on from there. With a visit to Brackley up next we need to seriously boost confidence.

I said on Saturday that Tuesday night is season defining.

Not in the sense that we're doomed if we don't win, of course not, but I think any hope of challenging for the title this season (and we've been tipped to do so by many, let's not forget) could be gone if we fail to pick up three points tomorrow; especially as we then travel to Brackley on Saturday which is probably the worst place to go in search of a big result. We could potentially be without a win in five and up to 11 points off the top.

However, we should have had that game won after 45 minutes and with the return of Josh Hancock I'm confident we can get that win and hopefully kick on. Praying for a competent set of officials, it really isn't much to ask for.

One Foot and Andrew I agree with your synopsis and Phil would agree also. Josh has to start in my mind, hopefully it will give Hulme a lift also. I believe Ringo should stay in the starting lineup, thought he was great the other day considering it was his his first start.

Lets get that win lads.

Josh has to come straight in for Max.

Maybe start Ringo and Willo together, drop Branson to the bench?

Will the covers be on tonight as heavy rain forecast overnight?

Less than 50% chance of rain in Alty overnight according to BBC weather (which is usually more accurate than their football news !)

Agreed. Branson is lacking ground cover. I would start Richman as DM, he can get up for headers. Williams CM and get Hancock back at No.10 is a must.

Somebody has got to get up for the headers. I noticed at Chester there was a lot of standing off and waiting for the second ball. Free header to the opposition. We need Jake to get fit sooner rather than later.

First three points of the season but Alferton will feel hard done by.
We have got to stop conceeding after we score 4 games in a row now
On a plus note nice to see a out field player score.

Assume Walters was injured, he was sat in the stand with Jake

As parky says, were not there yet, still off the pace but we got the vital 3 points. need to build on that Saturday and beyond. Great to see Josh back, I am sure Jordan will be back on it sooner rather than later.

How good was Steve's save with his boot!
