Altrincham FC First Team / Coalville Town match thread
« on: December 28, 2017, 09:55:02 AM »
It's hard to know what to expect from opponents who win 3-1 away to Warrington on Saturday, then nosedive 0-3 to Barwell on Tuesday. One thing is for sure though - it'll be a pretty low attendance. Barwell is their derby fixture, and the gate was only 198.

They certainly weren't a pushover at our place and I think they'll have had their arses kicked after Tuesday and will be all out to prove themselves.

We SHOULD win this and I'm going for 2-1 (Poole and Richman). Attendance 234.

Altrincham FC First Team / Merthyr murdered
« on: November 20, 2017, 10:36:03 PM »
The re-formed fan owned Merthyr Town, who operate at the same level of the pyramid as Alty, are in such a parlous financial state that most of their senior pros have quit.

Their 15 year old goalkeeper apparently made some outstanding saves at Chesham on Saturday and won MOM, but despite his heroics they lost 13-1.

Frightening !

Altrincham FC First Team / Richard Brodie signs.....
« on: October 30, 2017, 09:11:23 AM »
......for Rushall Olympic.

Perhaps he thinks they're attached to an Olympic Pool where he can practice his diving.

Won't be long before he heads back to his native North East to wind down what's left of his career at West Allotment Celtic.

Congratulations to Louis Moult, who scored both goals as Motherwell beat Rangers to earn a Scottish League Cup final against Celtic.

Altrincham FC First Team / Southport appoint Kevin Davies

Daring appointment in their position. He'll need all the connections he can make. I don't rule out the prospect of waving to them as they pass us going downwards as we go up.

Altrincham FC First Team / Old "friend"
« on: October 09, 2017, 03:58:28 PM »
From the Times round-up of Saturday's League 1 games.

Villain of the Day : Referee Graham Salisbury, who failed to send off Walsall's Jon Guthrie, even though he'd awarded a penalty for deliberate handball. He said he didn't show the red card because "He didn't know who the guilty party was".

We will be at home to Clitheroe, who beat Colne 3-0 this afternoon.

Altrincham FC First Team / Rearranged fixture
« on: October 01, 2017, 07:33:04 PM »
When we should have played Stourbridge on 14th October, there are three other teams without fixtures. Should the League decide to rearrange our blank Saturday we could play :

Lancaster City

Halesowen Town

Farsley Celtic (away only)

If Stafford win their replay at Telford, you can add Ashton United to the possibilities.

Altrincham FC First Team / Duncan returns to action

Came on at Preston as a 64th minute sub for Sunderland yesterday. Good to see him back.

From today's "Observer" :

Confusion of the day came in Romania, where Rapid Academy, a phoenix club formed after Rapid Bucharest were declared bankrupt last year, beat Rapid......a DIFFERENT phoenix club formed in the same circumstances. Fans boycotted the the game because they didn't know who to support.

Stalybridge Celtic's view on their 4-0 defeat at Coalville (see club site).

Altrincham FC First Team / Hednesford Town match thread
« on: September 23, 2017, 08:45:26 PM »
We appear to be visiting the Pitmen at the right time. Pasted 5-0 at Mickleover Sports this afternoon, and have apparently only got a squad of 15-16 players if their forum is to be believed.

As long as we don't succumb to a James Lawrie wonder goal we should have every chance of 6 points from this game and then Stalybridge next Saturday.

Altrincham FC First Team / Tolani Omotola

I thought we'd called him back from Ramsbottom but he scored their winner today.

Bottom of the league when they came to us, and many (including me) were pessimistic after we threw away a two goal lead before winning 4-2.

Tonight they sit second in the table. Maybe we got a better result than we thought that day.....but more likely it's just another illustration of the mediocre standard of the Evostink League.

Altrincham FC First Team / Sprinklers
« on: September 23, 2017, 06:49:45 PM »
It's nice to have them, but shouldn't we be a bit more thoughtful about using them ? Players were losing their footing all over the pitch in the second half. We really didn't need the sprinklers today !
