Hmm, playing at a clubs academy doesn't actually equate to conference level football, less so the school or college. It's a whole lot harder than you think (I've played). If you're 18/19 as you sound the best bet would be to ring the club on 0161 928 1045. Ask for George Heslop, he's the youth team manager and he'll be much more likely to help you. Don't worry if that sounds a little bit beneath your station, if you REALLY are a 6ft6 marauding, versatile defender/midfielder/attacker who bags 2 goals every 3 games  8) then you'll be shifted up into the 1st team squad in next to no time. ;)

Starting off a song at Alty. Shouldn't be an indicator of when I felt like I'd actually grown up and was a bloke/football supporter (pathetic really) but it was  :D :D :D

Altrincham FC First Team / Southport to remain full time
« on: May 01, 2007, 11:55:39 AM »
Interesting!  :)

PRESS RELEASE FULL TIME

SANDGROUNDERS MAINTAIN AMBITION

PORT LOOKING TO ACHIEVE BOUNCEBACKABILITY

Southport Football Club announced on Tuesday that they will be retaining full time playing status next season. This is a highly ambitious decision at Haig Avenue and shows the clubs determination to be highly competitive as they kick off next season. Manager Peter Davenport finished the season with an impressive run of performances and the former Manchester United and Nottingham Forest star has now been given the go ahead to build his full time squad for the Blue Square North next season. Davenport’s last Conference home match saw a record home league attendance at Haig Avenue in 33 years and with that amount of enthusiasm in the town the hope is there will be a winning habit at Haig Avenue next season.

Chairman Charlie Clapham and Vice Chairman Sam Shrouder have given the go ahead to be full time for a second season and the intention is to return to the Blue Square Premier as quickly as possible. Supporters in the town will be impressed by the clubs decision to start the season as possibly the only Blue Square North club operating as a full time club. Kettering Town are currently full time and are now in the play offs aiming to achieve Blue Square Premier status.

Chairman Charlie Clapham stated “ Following what has been a very difficult transitional season from Part Time to Full Time to reverse this after one season could be seen as a negative policy, the manager believes that to remain Full Time gives the club the best chance of regaining our National status at the earliest opportunity, the club will operate on an affordable budget which the manager is fully supportive of. We believe our supporters will see our course of action as being very positive laying down our marker that we must get back in the National division as a priority”

That's absolutely spot on Ecky, the same thought I have every time I see that picture in the sponsors lounge of some God forsaken Unibond match and i can pick out who is singing. And you're right about seeing a bit of us in themselves (if you're reading this lads it doesn't necessarily mean you'll be fat and bald in 20 years tho), I guess you've got to remember we were younger before the internet. Remember the early 90's when nothing actually happened during the week (i.e. the conference in the days when ex-league teams went straight back up). We'd have been on here all week wondering if Charlie Bradshaw would be fit for Saturday etc.

I hope the younger lads who've come down this season have enjoyed it and stick with us (it's ok you daon't have to all post replies on here saying that you will), cos we can all support United and Chelsea and that. Some were in the King George on Saturday watching a game taking place only 30 odd miles away that they didn't go to, oblivious to the drama that would take place at Moss Lane as well. They were into it but I just thought, what's hard about this, I know rooneys going to do something good soon and if they lose they'll still win the leeague or there's always the Champs lge. Great, can it honestly mean that much. I know united lads who agree with me on that.

Alty is harder but well worth it and I think it's one of the few football grounds that gives a good atmosphere. I think we should send out the Barnet video to all the local schools.  :D

I'm with you and the cult as well to be fair Ecky, for all the reasons you listed and about a hundred more. Actually, one important point that we should really bear in mind is this. I am fairly sure that during our Unibond years it was our steadfast belief that we were a conference club and refusal to wilfully acknowledge Worksop and vauxhall motors perfectly fair right to be on the same pitch as us that dragged us up. I do not care what Alfreton or Hucknall say, I'll listen to Kettering and I'll enjoy playing Southport as it seems like a 'proper tinpot' game but I'll never accept we don't belong in the top echelons. The day we say 'well ok we're a BSN club' is the day we are one. But I don't think anyone really is, just that we can't do anything but try our best. If I thought that wailing and screaming about it would bring about a 3 day late winner against Aldershot i would. It won't. I agree, the BSN is toss.

We'll just have to steamroller it like we did last summer!  ;D

5136
I think you should be allowed Chris as you were so nice to us in the bar.  :-* Well done on staying up by the way, Alty and Droylsden switching places is bad enough but you and Histon would've been taking the piss. Have to say I didn't think you'd finish 4 points clear off us after we'd beat you 5-0 and you'd repeated the dose at home to York. :'(

5137
I think in some ways it's a look on the bright side of life attitude. My greatest wish is that the club continues to progress and raises it's profile and strengthens its links with the community. in this way we'll gradually get better more consistent crowds and be in a position to compete in the conference (in time). Now, for me and a few others to be fair, I know that in reality this is in the conference national. Our profile is raised imeasurably, even if it's just from our scorers coming up on Gillette Soccer Saturday, playing York City or Exeter City is like being in the league as far as the floating voter is concerned. Our crowds are the highest they've been for 20 years, realistically they will drop by about 40% next year, I know some casual fans who won't be at as many games next year. On paper, it's dropping down one level, in reality you're dropping off the football map.

Also, and most dissapointingly the chance to progress as a team by attracting good quality players has been lost. Danny Adams had a choice a while back of Alty, Southport and Morecambe. Now his choice would be Morecambe only. Likewise, if it goes tits up at Northwich, where are some of their better players like Kieran Charnock going to go - not to us in the Blue Square North.

However, people are also right to try and put a positive slant on it. We can still progress, if we get a really good start and show good home form then maybe the younger eleement who seem to be more prominent at games nowadays will be enthused, a winning team will draw in the crowds. Of course, we all know how hard the BSN is, in my view we could easily finish 9th. On the other hand maybe it's a chance to rebuild the team slightly and even I must admit that the thought of turning up to some home games expecting to win will be a nice change. The team will need new impetus in the way the Potts, Hussin, Owen and little signings did. I don't think we're that far away from being a conference club.

So you're right Cult, not being in the Conf is a huge blow and will hinder progress. As someone put on confguide north, losing to Exter is better than losing to Alfreton in about a million different ways that would take up to much time to fully explain. However, you can't say that people who try to accept it a bit are being brainwashed. What are we supposed to do? Wail and scream about it all woe is me? I've done that in my head, don't think people aren't hurting but we've just got to look forward. We didn't do that much wrong this year, yes Bowler and thomson were mistakes, we lacked width a lot of the time as well as solid full backs, injury wise we missed Colin Little for quite a bit altho on the whole we were relatively unsctahed and we gave away a sloppy goal away at stafford but it's margins. We just have to pick ourselves up and make the best of it, try and enjoy it as much as we can.  :P

The irony of this is unbelievable Silky. So basically, if we want the possibility of Boston coming down going bust and repreiving us we have to hope and pray Macc stay up on the last day ::)

Also, as I feared, we wait 10 years for you to come down so we meet again and what happens, we're back down too. Never the twain shall meet >:(

Personally I knew we were doomed when the Setanta deal was announced, we are unbelievably unlucky at missing out on windfalls. Incredible :( Likewise, I've a feeling Wrexham will come down now that we're in the BSN, another payday bites the dust :P

5139
Sorry guys, attendances next year will be bacj to averaging 650 odd. 700 something if we can get a really good start and stay in play off positions. :P

5140
Great idea Darren. Whilst the female population of Hale and Altrincham wouldn't want my face obscured by paint that's a cracking one for the young uns. Well done.

p.s. I'll tell Dennis I'll  pay for his, actually you'd only need to do the white stripes  :-[

5141
Teasy and Frosty - I'm not passing to you next week now.  ;) Alexski - I presume your mate who works saturday is a brain/eye surgeon so I don't think phoning hims a good idea  :) altyfc - never mind hair colour, I'm not overly happy about people with more hair than me being in the ground  :'(

Any problems, anyone come and chat to me about it - I'll be the bloke on the phone taking updates from my mate at the Morecambe-Grays match!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D 8)

Good luck today everyone.

 :-*

5142
I do.

The noticeable lull in atmosphere tells you when people are arsing about on their phones, you don't necessarily need to be looking at them. ;)

5143
Tomorrow need sfull support and heart, IF :o we score that is an impetus to spur the lads on further with the atmosphere, not this immediate lull when people start txting someone the score or details etc to absent friends it does my head in.

SORT YOUR HEADS OUT AND CONCENTRATE ON MATTERS AT HAND
1. Any 'Alty fan' who hasn't made it to Moss Lane tomorrow does not deserve to be updated or notified of the score. F*** em.

2. Any 'Alty fan' who hasn't made it to Moss Lane tomorrow with a reasonable excuse (Alty USA) etc will be safely ensconced in front of the internet / ceefax etc and will know what's going on anyway.

3. Any 'Alty fan' who hasn't made it to Moss Lane tomorrow with a reasonable excuse or otherwise who hasn't even managed to do the last part of 2. may be texted as long as it is a substitute for never actually speaking to them again.

That is all.

EDIT: No it's not, I should obviously add as well that anyone who takes the liberty of doing an easy clap should we be leading can expect at the very least a good slap, even if you you are only 6 years old.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: A relegation playoff?
« on: April 27, 2007, 03:49:12 PM »
Would connect world's most if we were relegated due to the toss of a coin.

I know that Liverpool got knocked out of the Cup Winners Cup semi final in teh 60s against Inter Milan on the toss of a coloured disc! They went to the San Siro for the second leg and it ended up all square obviously. Inter were being typical, cheating, diving etc, being 1960s Italians basically. The referee was also piss poor, corrupt, a 1960s Italian basically. Anyway they tossed up a disc, red on one side, blue on the other and it came down on the blue side (facing up, in blues favour, you know what I mean). Liverpools skipper, Ron Yeats? came into the dressing room and Shankly asked him if he had called heads or tails, he said neither just assumed that Liverpool were the red side of the disc. Apparently Shankly (knowing exactly what the Italians were like and totally wound up at throwing away a 3-1 1st leg lead) went absolutely ballistic at him and ranting and raving about foul play.

 ???

Well that passed 3 minutes of my time before tomorrow without thinking about the relegation scenario eh.  :P

I don't know what they taught at BTH but seeing as Ecky was a Green Lane head I doubt it matters. One thing that makes me chuckle is the fact that the jubilation is for finishing 13th in the Unibond league. Ridiculous really.
