Might I add that as and when you send in your ideas it may also be of use to mention what you could do. i.e. those of you who wanted posters put up in schools did well whenyou mentioned which schools you could go into.

I mention this for 2 reasons. 1. There is realistically no end of ideas that we could come up with, howver as a club run solely by volunteers there is no way of following them up. Consider in regards of putting up posters at the ground, the 10-15mins spent on here with ideas could be used to put the posters up, remember there is no end to the work that needs to be done.

2. Also, if you add what you can do and where it would allow the club or whoever to build up a realistic databse about who can do what or where. Those ideas may then become reality :)

GUYS THE POLL WAS NOT "DO YOU THINK WE'LL GET A REPRIEVE?" IT WAS "HOW WOULD YOU FEEL?"

Jeez, read it properly  >:(

Unfortunately, the likelyhood is still remote I'm afraid.

Not being funny Chris but it was wrong when you did it as well. Where is the punishment?

You may think it is wrong and yes... it probably is. But my point is everybody would do it, even yourselves if you're honest, so it does smack of a little hypocrisy to condemn others as 'wrong'. In fact you'd be plain daft for not doing it, a la Rotherham, and look what happened to them. It's upto the FA to change or tighten this rule asap, because clubs will keep doing it and the deduction becomes pointless ('scuse the pun!).

You also ask 'where's the punishment?'. Well, our punishment was a near corrupt board who financially mismanaged the club to near death, sold Dave Kitson for a paltry £150,000 and sold our stadium to property developers for £1.9million on land which is worth over £10million. We have to make near impossible rent payments of £200k a year which slashed our budget so much we could not compete and were relegated to the Conference. Whilst they walk away scot free, the new regime and supporters are left to pick up the pieces, which resulted in almost another relegation which would have more than likely finished us off.

I think thats 'punishment' enough, don't you?

With respect Chris, you have to say that having corrput directors is a consequence not a punishment. You shouldn't let your club fall into those hands. If the brought success you'd take that as a consequence. Likewise, through the years we've had some sh*t managers and sh*t players.

Yes, the supporters pick up the pieces but it is the club (whoever is responsible) who are committing the offence. So it's not really punishment enough no. Altho thankfully it seems to have worked out for you in the end with these yanks that are putting the dosh in. Incidentally, was this investment reliant on you staying up or would it have gone ahead anyway.

Also, good to see on the bbc website that the football league have written to boston reserving the right to aplly the football sanctions (-10pts) at any given time. i.e. next season rather than this if  necessary, not sure what the conference make of it tho.

I couldn't be anything other than pleased. I'd feel guilty sure, perhaps less so if it was at the expense of somebody obviously taking the piss but I'd still take it. Still as we went through all the options last night, unfortunately it seems as though the rumoured clubs have sorted themselves and its full speed ahead for the BSN.   :'(

Interesting poll topic though.

Right, just to try and lighten the mood a bit I've picked my telegraph fantasy cricket team today and also decided to pick an Alty XI.

Twas:

1. Murray 'Geoff' Goodwin (Sussex) 7
2. Gary Scott (Durham) 4
3. Chris Adams (Sussex) 6
4. John Maunders (Leics) 5
5. Chris 'Carole' Nash (Sussex) 1

6. Glen Chapple (Lancs) 6 - On the basis that he's local, lives near American bar in Hale.

7. Gareth 'Steve' Cross (Lancs) 3

8. Shane Warne (Hants) 9 -  Captain and wearing Alty sweatbands.
9. Andy Harris (Notts) 4 -  This lad is actually the younger brother of Ricky Harris - True!
10. Jason Gillespie (Yorks)  6- Alty shareholder and all round good egg, also an England Ashes hero of 2005.
11. Claude 'Jock' Henderson (Leics) 7

12th men/squad members , Daniel 'Dennis/Dave' Birch (Derbys) and James 'Jacqui' Foster (Essex) and Mark 'goalie who played a couple of games for us circa 92/93' Davies (Durham).

Possibly more chance of Flynny leaving Alty to be honest  ::)

Scotty,

The club has just been relegated, there is a lot going on at the moment. They'll be in touch I'm sure. As it stands tho they'll be looking for a lot more serious players than you, with a lot more experience so good luck but stop mithering ok?  :-X

p.s. Set yourself a myspace website up.

It is not a godsend. If it was one step back for two forwards and I thought we'd piss the BSN with anew young vibrant squad then maybe. Sorry Geoff, can' t bring myself to agree with you on that  one.

2004-2005 ave att 656
2005-2006 ave att 1048
2006-2007 ave att 1166

I think I know where progress lies.

My, this is a good thread.  ::) So we've no idea who's being released, who on earth might be available from other clubs or what the budget will be. Everyones squad is basically this seasons minus the released Thomson and Bowler, Talbs expected to reitire, maybe Andy Scott released and a bit of debate about whether Asa is still up to it and will anyone who has left us in the past couple of years come back! The only suggested signing has been Terry Fearns. Think this one is best left until the start of July.

That said...

... I think we keep roughly the squad we've got now, I think Colin and Joe would be a right handful. Joe has a burst of pace that would serve him well in BSN. We must tho, must, sign a left back (Warren so much more threatening on left mid), a decent winger (more so a right sided one I guess) and a target man. Unfortunately finances have taken a hit just as it looked like we could strengthen the team for the first time in years. On crowds of 700 next season (don't kid yourselves it'll be higher unless we are clear at the top of the league) that won't be the case and cuts may have to be made beyond just the Bowler/Thomson wages.

If I knew of any players maybe Matt Doughty of Halifax will leave in the summer, he might of come to confnat but not BSN, wingers are rarer these days, if it went tits up at Vics and we'd stayed up maybe Chris Williams, now looking at Jamie Tandy if he doesn't cut it in the national with Droylesden, decent target men I really don't know. Always like Mike Moseley at Witton but he's more in the Rod Thornley mould.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Southport to remain full time
« on: May 03, 2007, 09:38:56 AM »
I'll take that post with a huge pinch of salt, can't start taking conjecture on Portchat seriously. The only player I'd really like is Baker who's off to a higher level. If the post was to be true, I suppose of those apparently leaving that Blakeman seems to make them tick and GH is a fan of Mark Boyd and tried to sign him last year. We're actually overloaded with midfielder tho I think, maybe Chris Lane who is a decent right back might be useful.

Anyway, bit of a gamble this for Southport in my view, teams can easily raise their game for a full time outfit and compete very easily once or twice a season. Kettering finished second and you have to remember they were a decent conference north outfit before the full time switch. In the confnat it's different, fulltime gives you a chance as it's hard to consistently raise your game v ft sides.
