RE: Gateshead Next Tuesday
« on: January 25, 2010, 09:06:15 PM »

Hi people

Wondered if anybody else is going to the Gateshead away game next week. I am unable to take the coach as I am overnighting in Newcastle to see Chris who is at Uni, so am going by train.

I assume there is a coach going and others are going to be there. Chris my eldest is trying to get a gang from Uni to go and boost support a little. I think we may have 4 so far! Does anybody know the ground well, I have not been before.

My only hope is that Gateshead/Barrow is not a draw in the FA trophy as I have had to book cheap tickets, so am having to go whatever.

If anybody other are there, see you there on Tuesday all being well. If not, does anybody want on site reporter for the website via my mobile. Not sure how you work this one with the match thread!!

Cheers

Well known Alty face and former London Alty top boy JTH should certainly be there, its his local game now.

Gateshead on a Tuesday night, it brings it all back to the early 1990s, Paul Dobson, Neal Graycombe, not beating them for about 800 matches, ah yes.

Steve.

There are always at least 30 other Alty fans at any game with you.

The day you worry about being on your own is the day we should shut the doors.

I've got friends at Newcastle Uni who have said i can stay over so am looking at heading up on the train, .

I've only been to the ground a couple of times. Its a 5 minute car journey from the university depending on traffic. Think its about 2.5 miles. Not entirely sure how i'm going to be getting from the university there yet, maybe a bus or something or if the metro go's out that way then may do that.

I am ok accomm wise as I work in the travel business and have got a room at the Marriott Metrocentre which they tell me is not far from the stadium.

Going for a curry after the game, anybody know a decent curry house in the City or near Gatesheads ground?

Gateshead fans, any ideas??

Jeeze I hope they dont draw against Barrow in the trophy this weekend, I will not be able to go to a rearranged game, this is a one-off.

Gateshead isn't very good for curries.  Go into Newcastle and to the Bigg Market - there's the Curry Capital (of Viz fame) and a couple more around there just a 5 min walk from the train station.  Latif's is another one.

I'm seriously pi$$ed off that this is a night game, I went to Newcastle Poly in the very early 80's and hoped to get back up there for a cracking weekend meeting old pals and having a bit of retro/deja vue/sentimental and just bloody good time type of thing. They must not go down and it has to be a Saturday next year.

Lots of good pubs/clubs, the younger element will be fine around The Bigg Market, decent real ale pubs at the bottom of town around Westgate Hill, Quayside etc. As for an Indian, I'm sure the famous Rupali in the Bigg Market will do the honours, fantastic place. Plenty of others if the legendary Mr Latif has hung up his chapatti pan.

Note to all.....no colours around Newcastle, red and white stripes do not go well around town. No questions will be asked, seriously.

Hehehe, always can rely on Gunners to lighten the mood!

The colours thing is valid, otherwise they are a good bunch up there. I spent three good years and despite walking into the "wrong" pub once....and being called a Cockney..I'm from Sale....met nothing but friendly if boisterous people.

Ah Gateshead....I didn't go in 99/00 but remember hearing about something involving Gallagher, but can't remember what?

And then there was out last visit and the legend of Nick Welton in the Trophy. Where did he go from us,I would presume down the leagues?
