Ever the optimist...
« on: November 04, 2014, 09:03:16 AM »

As someone who was brought up on Alty almost expected to reach the 3rd round of the FA Cup each year, I still have the ingrained sense that this is our competition and, despite Saturday's result knocking us off our stride, I like to think this is going to be one of our better cup runs.

If we can make the 3rd round, I'd quite like Sunderland home or away with certain Mr Watmore given his chance by the opposition... :)

Me too, it was always about Alty and the FA Cup for me.

However, ever the pessimist, I expect us to be beaten at Blyth and not make the second round for the umpteenth time.

When was the last time? Darlington? Or was that round 1?

Yep, that was Darlington in 01-02 - after beating Lancaster in R1 following that Poland hat trick in ET of the replay.

Notably, this is the first time we've had a R1 draw as favourable as that...

Some of my greatest joy as a youngster was Alty's FA Cup success.
