Interesting piece from Hyde FC forum
« on: June 18, 2011, 02:41:09 PM »

They appear to have preliminary plans in place to start running double-decker coaches to away games, with players using the top deck and supporters on the bottom deck.

How would this work after the game? Surely the fans would end up having to wait ages before setting off for home. Also, surely there are things which go on on team coaches which are not for the eyes/ears of supporters.

I appreciate they are probably trying to do it for all the right reasons but I think it's a non-starter.

Cloughie once said the three people you need to trust the most are the secretary, the laundry lady and the coach driver cos they hear everything. Having fans on the same bus - however big - as the players is a recipe for disaster in my view.

I think its an interesting idea.

The lower deck has a capacity of 20-30, allowing the 30-40 upper to filled by players. Unless the gaffer is screaming his head off at the players, the supporters would be unlikely to hear anything.

Seems it would be cheaper to run it in this way, thus saving the club some cash it can spend on players.

Afterwards, the supporters could have a nice pint in the bar at Workington or Bishop Stortford before the journey back.

May not work with us, due to the number of fans we take by coach.

Its a ridiculous idea. The coach is an extension of the dressing room and should be kept that way. This shows what kind of a pub outfit hyde really are

Or the other way round, stoney silence on the lower deck whilst fun and frolics upstairs from players who don't quite seem as gutted as them

As someone has put the team coach is part of the dressing room.  It's not a place for fans.

think its a great idea
serious point - i dont hear too many original ideas coming out of our club that both save money and potentially bring fans closer together with players.
we've lost the culture of making brave decisions. i think we've had a lack of inspiring leadership off the pitch for years and years which will hopefully change with the appointment of the new manager.

can you imagine some of the journeys home we'd have had last year if our club had implemented this brave innovative money saving idea.....and the forum the day after????

Ludicrous idea and a recipe for disaster.

out of curiosity, what sort of brave decisions were made in the past that are lacking today?

i dont hear too many original ideas coming out of our club that both save money and potentially bring fans closer together with players.

We have a new recruits evening (sometimes two) every season where fans can get to know the players.
We have a player of the year/race night every year where the fans can socialise with the players.
We have a Christmas dinner every year where fans can socialise with the players.
We have an end of season dinner at which fans can socialise with the players.

These are four things which I've just come up with straight off the top of my head. I think the club does a lot of good things to try and build a strong bond between the fans and players.
