This is some splendidly bitter and one-eyed stuff from the Stevenage commentators. Keep it up, boys!

We should play them a week or so before the last game - just like last season! - because then if Ebbsfleet are in the Trophy final, they won't bother and we'll be able to put in a good performance and collect an easy... oh.

Altrincham FC First Team / Final game of the season
« on: February 18, 2009, 11:37:19 PM »
John Laidlar had this on the website the other day:

"Although one or two clubs have jumped the gun with an announcement, the Blue Square Premier is yet to confirm whether they will change the date and/or time of the final matchday of the season, currently scheduled for Saturday, April 25th."

Does anyone know what the rumoured change is? Just want to be prepared for all eventualities.

My team. My college. It's not me, is it?

I sincerely hope this approach has been forced on GH by Johnson and Denham not being fit. Because after the way we played at Burton, to choose to play this negatively would be bizarre. Then again, I assume Senior's fit and he's on the bench too.

Upholding incorrect decisions by referees, if that's what you're suggesting the FA should do, would be a disastrous way of trying to support match officials. The rescinding of Lampard's red card has actually taken some of the sting out of fans' resentment towards Mike Riley. If the FA had 'backed' him, he would be getting absolutely slaughtered now.

Evening all. Chilean Merlot for me. My Dad's decided not to go tonight because it's 'too cold'. Unbelievable.

And no team below us in the league won.

I went to school with him and seem to recall he was a massive Red and fairly dismissive of me being an Alty fan. He may have been down to Moss Lane a few times though.

Altrincham FC First Team / Kettering v Fulham
« on: January 24, 2009, 10:17:53 PM »
Just watching the highlights of this match and the commentator mentioned that it's the first time a top-flight side had visited Rockingham Road in the FA Cup.

Which made me wonder - have we ever played a top-flight side at Moss Lane? Blackburn in the 70s possibly - were they top-flight then?

I'd have to say that the Vics steward hurling the ball at Shaun Densmore's shins was one of the highlights of my day.

The fact that Steve King is under the impression we were playing with two (rather than three) centre-halves perhaps tells a story.

Worrying statistic:

This season to date, we have yet to win a Blue Square Premier league match when the opposing team has scored the opening goal.

Equally though, we've yet to lose a league game when we've scored the opening goal. Nigel Clough's comments on this subject last week seemed pretty astute to me.

Missing Densmore certainly but I suspect we're missing Robbie Lawton more. I'm not his biggest fan but perhaps we're seeing his importance to the team in his absence?

As proud as I am of our history in cup competitions, we have become detached from that history now and are quite simply a very poor cup team.
