All I ask for tomorrow is a team that will put 100% in and at least had a go at it. Last 2 visits to Oxford have been terrible 4-0 defeats, and to keep it below that will be nice. Although hopefully we can have a really dogged performance and somehow come away with something. And how good would that be for confidence after the last 7 days!!

We only lost one nil last season, I think.

Kieran Lugsden at Grays in our first season back in the Conference. Latest Alty goal ever?

How bad is Denham's injury? Has there been any definitive word on whether he'll be fit for Saturday/a week on Saturday?

Personally,

I would go

Coburn

Young
Williams
Smith

Densmore
Clee

Lawton
Danylk
Kearney

Little
Burns

Subs

Welch
Saunders
Sheridan (if poss)
Pearson?
Named Sub

Am I missing something ? Are we trying to re-arrange another loan...

If so that team but Sheridan instead of Lawton

JL's website says that Sheridan's loan was from Sept 22nd so I assume that he (and Burns) will both be with us till at least the Luton game.

I've only done the trip by train once and I think you go to Wellingborough (?) and then get a taxi from there. But Nene Park is a fair old way from the train station or, indeed, civilisation generally.

Anyone heard what's happening with these two?

Both loan periods have ended and what with them being injured and other injuries clearing up, I'd guess they've gone back to Utd and Vale respectively.

Rushden striker Aaron O'Connor has a muscle problem and is only rated as 50-50 for the visit of Altrincham.

Lee Tomlin serves the final game of a three-match suspension, while midfield pair Rob Wolleaston and Nick McNamara (both knee) are still out.

Altrincham could recall Greg Young following the defender's recovery from a bout of mumps.

However, Colin Little (knee), Dale Johnson (leg) and Aaron Burns (head) will all miss the game at Nene Park.

The odd thing about yesterday is that nobody seemed too upset about the late equaliser. Disappointed yes but not absolutely gutted as we might have been in previous seasons. Perhaps that's because the loss of two points would have felt more crucial in previous seasons?

A very good team performance (with the exception, I'm afraid, of Heffernan who looked like he was day-dreaming and really let the side down), from which I'd like to single out Sean Densmore. It's been said on here that Sean is not a full-back but yesterday, up against a very dangerous winger in Mitchell Cole, he looked a very fine full-back indeed.

Sounds ominous for them.

Does anyone else remember watching Alty playing in an FA Trophy tie on the artificial pitch at Hyde back in December 1987?

Tommy Docherty was still Alty's manager at that stage and I seem to recall that a late penalty by Mike Farrelly rather unjustly allowed us to escape with 1-0 victory.

I remember that game very well - the penalty was won by ex-Hyde man John Timmons, I believe, which rubbed salt in the wounds. I was sat in the main stand in amongst the Hyde fans and I actually felt pretty sheepish at the end of the game, such had been Hyde's dominance (though some of that of course was down to them being more used to their peculiar playing surface than we were).

This is very sad news but if it's a sign that HMRC is going to take a harder line with football clubs who don't pay their tax bills (I'm presuming that's what's happened here), that's a welcome development.

Just had the half-time chat with my Dad and he says it's a bit of nothing game and neither keeper's had a save to make so far.

Leon, are you offering the point?

No, I can't bring myself to suggest that a point at home to Tamworth would be a decent result.

My hand is out, I'll take it with this ramshackle Battlestar Galaticaeque fleet of players.

So in other words, you've offered yourself the point and taken it?

An excellent performance and result last night. What was particularly impressive was that Stuart didn't have a serious save to make all night, so in that respect it was a more controlled performance than the nil nil in April. Young was outstanding in defence and I thought Williams actually got better as the game went on.

But while all the defenders clearly deserve great credit, I also think having a player like Tom Kearney in the midfield is going to make a big difference in games like this. When the ball was cleared from our penalty area, Kearney would often be there to pick it up, take a good touch, turn away from an opponent and pass to a fullback/wide midfielder. Doesn't seem like much but it crucially means that we retain possession and that was something we did last night so much better than in recent years. I think Clee has now found his feet and fitness and looks like an excellent signing and I thought Danylyk was also back to the sort of form he showed this time last year. In fact, I like the look of Denham, Kearney, Danylyk and Clee as a midfield - there's a nice balance there.

Shame that Thanker couldn't take that glorious chance at the end ("Dink it! Dink it!") but that doesn't detract from a superb effort from the team and a tactical triumph from GH and KM. Reminded me of Luton away in the Cup in that respect.
