Altrincham FC First Team / Kettering home game
« on: November 16, 2009, 02:36:17 PM »
I don't know how authoritative this is but the BBC seems to think our home game with Kettering has been re-arranged for Jan 12th.

The YP advert where he had a scratch on the table. "Hello, is that French Polishers?"

Did that guy go on to have a part in Sliding Doors?

Simon Schatzberger. I've worked with him actually...

Good to see such an attacking line-up, although I'm surprised that Clee's not in the starting eleven. I assume Burns will play on the left?

Who remembers the advert where the preggers woman who was decorating ordered a tuna and banana pizza, and the kebab shop bloke was obviously bemused?

The bloke's sensible order for himself was a ham and mushroom. Now idea why I remember that but I do.

On the issue of needing a new centre-forward, I felt we went into the season a striker light. And with Burns in on loan and Johnson out injured that's still where we are. Only now none of our strikers offers any physical presence. Now I'm going to phrase this next sentence very carefully... I think that if Joe O'Neill were still at the club, he'd have started a lot of games this season.

He probably would.

And he would probably have scored very few goals, too.

He's doing OK now at his correct level: Blue Square North.

I'd agree with that. But the fact that a decent BSN striker would have got a lot of games for us this season in the BSP tells its own story. The ideal thing would have been to replace Joe with a better striker but failing that, rather than release him, I think we may have been better off keeping him.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. It's just dreadful luck that Dale is out for the entire season. Even so, whilst Joe is probably a bit better than any of our remaining strikers at 'putting himself about', he's still not really what we're looking for. We need the big man who can make it stick. I wonder if Stockport, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale or some other local side have a big lump in their reserves who might be of use to us?

It's not exactly hindsight given I've said I was worried about this at the beginning of the season. Dale's injury has made things much worse though, certainly.

I don't think Joe O'Neill is the player we really need either. But until such time as we find and can afford that player, I think he would have been useful.

We currently have the fifth-best defensive record in the league.

I was a big fan of Mark McGregor and thought we'd miss him more than it turns out we have but given the above statistic, it's hard to argue that our defence is the major area of concern.

A choice of working or shopping today, thanks alty.......

Hughesy,

Alas, it might be a case of deja vu for you on Saturday, 28th November 2009, as our scheduled opponents at Moss Lane on that date, Kettering Town, will be playing in the FA Cup Second Round following their win at Hartlepool yesterday.

I wonder if we might bring forward a game from later in the season with another team who currently have a blank Saturday on the 28th? There must be a few given the number of BSP sides in the FA Cup second round.
I think we've done this in recent years.

Floodlight failure at half time, apparently. Lights have failed on several occasions.

Pic 9 - 1988/89 season black & red checks back l-r ?, Farrelly, Cuddy, Kilner, ? John Butcher, Hanchard (that's not how I remember him looking), Harris, Johnson, Dyson, Chris Byrne?

front l-r Ossie Smith (still an occasional visitor to Moss Lane), Barry Knowles?, Neil Cook, Mark Henshaw, Jeff Johnson, Ballers John Timmons, Paul Cuddy, Ronnie Ellis, Lawrence Iro?

I know Paul Cuddy was quick for a centre-half but surely even he wasn't quick enough to be in the same photo twice? I think it is indeed Darren Heesom in the front row.

Colin Chesters perhaps?

A very worthy and respectable performance by the team yesterday. The defence was excellent (Williams goes from strength to strength) - it was just a shame that injuries and suspenions robbed us of our attacking threat. That said, I'm not sure we deployed what we had in the best way - Burns, when he was playing wide left, struggled to get into the game and I'm not sure Clee was best used in the hole between attack and midfield. I thought the formation we started the second half with (Clee wide left, Burns up top and Little in the hole) was better.
Bryan did struggle but as others have said, he can't be judged till match fit.

But in general though, well done to all for a commendable efort.
