I think Redditch United had a gate of circa 150 for a home game during the 1979/80 Alliance Premier League season.

Will need to venture into the archives to corroborate that.

29th December 1979
Redditch v Maidstone United
Attendance: 150.

However, this one even surpasses that fixture:

10th December 1983
Gateshead v Trowbridge Town
Attendance: 121.

I am proud to be one of the 332 in Altys lowest ever league gate.

And I even invaded the pitch when Ronnie Ellis scored in the 88th minute, well I danced around the corner flag.  Sorry Darren.

Count me in as one of the 332 as well, Ecky.

This is becoming like a badge of honour - the equivalent of having attended the Sex Pistols' gig at the Lesser Free Trade Hall back in June 1976....!

Me too. Just dug out my programme for that game (it was the season of the weird Roy of the Rovers-style programme covers) and Sutton's no.7 that day was Efan Ekoku. And our no.7 was some person called Bill Parry (who he?). Oh and the referee was Jeff Winter.

Bill Parry was a youngster signed from Stockport County.

He made a handful of appearances towards the end of the 1988/89 season....and then vanished.

Our last 5 home games for the 88-89 season were:

Sutton 332
Boston 343
Fisher 337
Welling 480
Yeovil 569

Actually our last home game for that season was against Cheltenham - I don't know the gate for that one.

We had crowds of over 1000 for the visits of Chorley (1514), Vics (1438), Enfield (1007), Newport (1359 but game expunged), Kidd (1194), Wycombe (1229), Maidstone (1017)Macc (2139), Kettering (1106) and then gates fell off a cliff!

No idea why - I was in my seven season break around buying house with girlfriend (in Kent), getting married, moving to France, starting a family...the nearest I got to a game was our 2-7 defeat at Maidstone that same season

Mister Guru,

The only possible explanation that I can summon up relates to the fact that the 1988/89 season was the one that was plagued by Boardroom politics and infighting between the Geoff Lloyd/John Maunders faction and the Gerry Berman/Leonard Rosenfield cabal.

We went through a stage when the club seemed to have a different Chairman for each match, as the various shareholdings of the Directors fluctuated and alliances were forged and then broken.

There was a lot of disillusionment around the club back then, as I recall, so perhaps some people just couldn't be bothered to make their usual trip to Moss Lane against such a backdrop of legal wranglings...?

I'm not sure the clubs attendances ever truly recovered after that. I think it may have been the end of an era for many.

I'd say only the glorious memories of the 1990-91 season actually sustained the clubs support through most of the 90s.

How about Leigh RMI, surely they dipped below this, their gates always ended in a 3. 103 perchance?

I'm sure most regulars on here have seen the photo of the ONLY Leigh fan at Dagenham & Redbridge, stood alone complete with flag in the away end, discreetly observed by the designated steward.

I'm told that the same resolute character also went sans amies to Woking but sadly no decent photos survive.

Fair play to the bloke.

we need that photo SW?

Leigh had a habit of having games with attendances of x01 and x51.  I think they guessed to be honest.

SW,

According to the reference book: Alliance To Conference 1979-2004: The First 25 Years, Leigh RMI's lowest Conference attendance was 270 against Stevenage Borough on 14th April 2004.

Well found 1981. It really is a classic.

I went to an AFCWimbledon game against Ash Utd when they were in the CCL. Ash have a celebrated supporter who regularly travels away as a lone fan, but also chants throughout the game by himself. "Ash Ash Ash Ash Utd....." It really is good value for money and better than the match for entertainment.
