Favorite Minor Alty Player
« on: March 25, 2013, 09:45:28 PM »

Who is your favorite Alty player who wasn't really a main man for us...someone who maybe played 10 games or less for us. Got to say I always liked Matt Somner, mainly for the mohawk though. He was like a white Mr. T.

The Dean Pritchard winner came in our last league victory against Macc in 1995/96 at the Toss Rose. Ryan Price got sent off and they had an outfield player in goal for most of the game.

Peter Doran anyone?  The Turkish barber? Aaron Burns or Tejal Ross Thaker. So many to choose from.

In the late 70's everybody seemed to love Graham Tobin.  Not sure why.

From the same era, I give you Larry Garrity.  Mind you I went off him a bit when he scored a hat trick for Vics against us at Canal Street-ironically the location of his best game for us.

Tony Rigby was a class signing for the 98/99 run in. His attitude in August 99 stank though....

John Vernon - left winger in 76/77 mainly - old school fly down the touchline and cross it sort of player you don't see much of these days

Phil,

I'd hazard a guess that Joe Flaherty probably made circa 60 appearances for Alty between 1976 and 1978.

Mike Garnett should have more accurate statistics.

Who can forget the drama of that 1977 FA Trophy Semi-Final Second Leg 2-0 victory over Scarborough at Moss Lane....?

Richard acton, never actually wanted to play football that man. Unbelievably good when he was called upon.

I remember an interview where graham heathcote said he had to practically beg him to come on a long away trip when stu was questionable.

That mark Beesley who turned up on the last day of the season when we went down was pretty good too
