This is the firm that redeveloped Salford's ground; currently building an impressive lengthways stand at South Shields:

https://www.stadiumsolutions.co.uk/news/stadium-solutions-constructing-cutting-edge-stand-at-south-shields-fc/

No idea how much something like this would cost.

Same company that did Accrington's. Up to £3m according to reports but it will have boxes, hospitality etc. It's open already.

I think we deserved more than one goal. Oldham played so deep the back five could practically shake hands with the crowd. The biggest beef of their fans seems to be that they are playing so defensive even against what they perceive as our leaky defence.

On a different matter the ground looked pretty full with 3500. I notice only Colchester and Barrow had fewer fans in the football league last night. It'll be a tough ask when we get there.

But in getting there, we will be promoted. Could easily shift another 500 - 1000 ST after weve won the title or gone to wembely

The Oldham ends of the ground were packed but there still looked to be quite a few spare seats in the main stand & there was a fair bit of space in the corner of the GRE nearest the fan zone too.I think 5000 is roughly what the current layout could fit in it safely but if you got rid of all the scaffolding & redeveloped the Pop Side fully then it could be higher potentially.

Absolutely. That entire side is crying out to be flattened and redeveloped to modern standards, including the space behind the stand. A full-length seated stand similar to that of Chester's Deva Stadium (inc. media gantry) seems a reasonable target in the mid-long term.

As a guide, Accrington built a 1,200 seater stand where that little side terrace used to be about 4 years ago and that cost well over a million quid.

Expect things to cost a lot more since then but something has to happen one way or another because our own ground is not fit for purpose at this level.

There was probably something symbolic for a lot of Oldham fans about losing to a team (and in such a negative manner) that's only down the road, has only ever been non league and has a fraction of support and resources. The booing during the match was noticeable as was the number of fans who walked out when the goal went in. The change of ownership hasn't solved the problems and there is a real toxic mood still. Great win for Alty all the same.

It's a vicious circle. We need the money to appoint people to enhance our online operation and make people happier with the website, but when we make the website more commercial so to bring more money in then people complain.

I think Alty fans of any age will be in favour of change as long as it's positive and an improvement.
It's just that quite a few people don't yet seem to see the official site as better than the JL site (yet?).
I'm of that opinion myself but would love to see someone take it (the official site) on and iron out the wrinkles to make it what we all want (and were assured) it would become.

Fair comment but it all rests on what people actually want from our website. How many are actually that fussed about getting a full, detailed match report within hours? How many are that interested in intricate, comprehensive news coverage of other clubs? How many want to buy a ticket or a shirt with ease? How many actually bother with the website anyway when they can just go on Twitter or Facebook or Instagram to get what they need? If the club's overall approach is to look at the bigger picture than filling a niche then fair enough in my view

Can we please if it is possible for a link for John Laidlaw’s site or give him a landing page to be added to the main site as he is by far the most qualified person to be doing this with his passion and eye for detail, it could quite possibly unite the moaners the groaners and the idealists who think the older generation have no idea and should stay in the past but forget the older you get the more experience you gain.

Actually I think it's the "older generation" who are more likely to be the idealists and resistant to change. Nobody's saying they have no idea either, but maybe their idea of what constitutes an Alty fan and what they want from the club and the match is not necessarily the same as most people who follow us. That's not a criticism btw, just an observation.

It’s a safety and stewarding thing I’d have thought given our social club is located inside of the ground-it wouldn’t be too hard to envisage a situation in a segregated game where away supporters got into the Golf Road via the CSH. What should be a priority is finding a way to sell booze to away fans on the Chequers End (once we’ve finally sorted the FZ out at our end).

Surely they could make the access from the Moss lane side of the CSH and just steward away fans from the golf road/toilet part of the ground.

I don’t use the CSH that much due to the fact I am no longer local to Alty. I do get the impression that the CSH is there more for other clubs and crèches that use it rather than a match day facility for fans. Acoustically it is a barn of a place which doesn’t encourage general chit chat as the noise is deafening  maybe carpeting is the way to sort this problem. Plus another toilet facility at the main stand end of the hall would be appropriate

From a logistical point of view which entrance would be used that avoids away fans straying into home areas? I don't see how it's workable tbh.

In defence of the CSH, it was never built as a pure bar facility and so it is going to have its critics for the type of atmosphere in there. Putting a carpet in will then render it useless for a lot of the community stuff that it was built for. I doubt we would have got a lot of the funding for it in the first place of it didn't have its non bar on matchday roles.

I noted the constant tannoy requests about not crossing the main stand in front of the press box. Well, I went across the gangway behind the directors box and got daggers from one or two sat by there. Where else to go from one end of the stand to the toilets and catering? It's impossible and the club needs to understand this a bit more.

Only change I envisage is the keeper, no idea who is going get the gloves.

Predict another low scoring game

Maidenhead 1-1 Alty (Colclough)

Good luck to all who go
Reference the Olly Byrne situation I believe no news is bad news. If he is going to play tonight we’d have had an announcement unless the clearance arrives sometime later today.

Or maybe the club wants to keep the opposition guessing?

When it comes to our playing staff there's often a very fine line between satisfying the curiosity of fans and alerting the opposition of things that they could do without knowing, so I get why some things have to stay quiet.  We need to understand the manager's approach to this from a professional football point of view.

Very good point about this forum actually. Is it valuable to and appreciated by those who use it, and with some very good opinions and debate? No question.  Does it accurately represent a cross section of all those who follow or support us? Probably not.

The club website seems more interested in selling merchandise and tickets at the expense of any real updates. I think it is awful and not even very user friendly when you get there.  I'd not usually think of using it. John's website every time for me. I'd be interested to know what aspects of the clubs website are deemed better??

Probably not a popular view on this thread but I'd say the commercial angle is probably the most important part of a full time football club's website in 2022.

I'll also stick my neck out and say that a football club's digital presence these days is far far more than just the website. If I visit the website it's because I've seen something on our twitter feed and then follow the link, I'm probably not alone in that.

I totally agree with the criticism of slow updates, that is undoubtedly the new site's biggest weakness and it needs resolving.

The two websites discussed here are so totally different in format, priority and content that I don't see how you are going to make a big fan of one site enamoured of the other tbh.

Oldham are going to be a nice story for the media this season. Ex PL, train wreck off the pitch and now they have a new owner who's a bit of a character.

They had over 8,000 there yesterday against a newly promoted club that's hardly a household name. It's about the demand and the audience.

I note that five live have ditched the classifieds at 5. What's relevant and useful to some isn't going to be for others I guess.

So is it public knowledge how many we've sold then yet? (sorry for being such a nosy pest!) 😉

Have you asked the club directly?

Should I have to?
Or should the club publish it on the website as another piece of (hopefully) good news? I was just asking whether or when this was likely to happen.

That's fair enough, I was thinking that you might get a quicker response asking the club than asking on here 🙂
