Radio Robins didn't give the listening fans the option though. Fans don't get in to the games free, don't get free coach travel , don't get free beer and burgers. So BH want to charge for allowing a radio commentary of a game at their ground. I really don't get why people are so deeply offended by that. Just out of interest do photographers get in for free?
There were other factors involved here such as:-
1) Having become aware of Boreham Wood's policy on Monday & having to make the payment by Thursday, the timescale was not ideal to carry out a survey, then subsequently take donations & make a payment.
2) There were further costs to consider, as a related section of Boreham Wood's policy meant that we would have had to pay for 2 further press passes if we had carried out a broadcast.
Having said that, sometimes decisions just need to be made & I think that, in this instance, the same decision may have been made anyway, because, as previously stated, paying a broadcast fee is not something that we wish to do.For information, Radio Robins is not anti 'broadcast fees' per se, but the issue was that Boreham Wood's broadcast policy was different to all other clubs that we have travelled to in the last four & a half years. If broadcast fees became the norm, then we would allocate funds for that in the same way that we allocate funds for equipment, software, licences, etc.
To confirm, Radio Robins commentators are allocated a press pass, if working at a game, although some still choose to enter the ground via the turnstiles. They certainly do not get free coach travel & I'm not aware of any of the Radio Robins team receiving free beer or burgers, although I would suggest that perhaps either or both of those would be deemed reasonable rewards for volunteering a service.
