Whos for the drop?
« on: January 04, 2011, 10:10:12 PM »

Despite their 5-1 win yesterday, I didnt realise southport were so lowly despite having played so few games against that leagues decent sides, the horror run of luton twice and crawley in the final few weeks is a nightmare I think they will take one of the four places

H  Newport County
A  AFC Wimbledon
H York City
H Grimsby Town
A Altrincham
H Forest Green Rovers
A Hayes & Yeading Utd
A Crawley Town
A Mansfield Town
H Histon
A Eastbourne Borough
A Bath City
H Cambridge United
H Barrow AFC
A Rushden & Diamonds
H Luton Town
H Eastbourne Borough
A Luton Town
H Crawley Town
A Tamworth
H Darlington
A Kettering Town

Any other suggestions or thoughts folks

Sorry to be pessimistic but unless we start finding goals then ourselves! We've had a great start to 2011 and let's hope we can push on but we've still got problems that need addressing, we need more creativity.

We have also still got to play a right load of sh*t at home. Looking at the games southport have got left compared to what we have left, the fact they are only four points better off than ourselves is staggering

Southport were flying at the start of the season as well weren't they! They must have polled hardly any points in the last few months!

Longsman

Were you present on Monday? If so -  we played some good football there and scored a well worked goal and had many counter attvk chances late on which if not for tired legs could have been converted

This has been a great weekend for our player two superb performances defensively

If we keep clean sheets only 1 goal is needed

I was negative before christmas - heart believing head not

I can say now - we play like the last two games We will stay up

As much as I'd love them to go down, Forest Green now have money, so will probably survive by hook or by Peake.

For me its H&Y, Histon, Eastbourne, and Gateshead.

Eastbourne aren't the best side although "lucky" at home- last day penalty wasnt it to keep them up?

after the last 2 results I have to be confident, otherwise what's the point?

sure the first half showing V wrexham was poor, but we got better and from reports we were better again at mansfield.

avoid injuries, keep our heads and put the effort in.

I agree with Longman. We are still in poll position for the drop given our chronic goal shortage. Also agree with other posters re. H&Y and Southport being in the bottom 4. At the moment 4th from bottom is being optimistic, as we are presently bottom! That would at least put us in the agm cup, which will I am sure be keenly contested this year with the likes of Histon and Kiddy being truly in the mire. 5th from bottom would require us beating all the sides we need to play at the bottom at home. In short we need a goalscorer now.

I am sure the club are trying to tempt a forward to join us, but it must be hard when we are bottm of the league. In the interim we need to keep clean sheets (as we have done for the last 2 games) and best use the players we have up front.

I believe Reeves should be utilised more.

We have proven that we can get points and we must continue in that vein. The team must have more confidence now and that counts for alot.

Come on Alty.

Alty Dave has touched on the point I was going to make.  Confidence.

I dont think we need new strikers, we need our current strikers to get on a run and it can happen.

Clubs at the bottom of the Conference with zero budget dont get 20 goal a season strikers.  And who releases such players?

Its about Ken and Stuart getting the best out of what we have.

We are four points of safety having got 1 point from the first 10 games...Id say thats a miracle.  We need everyone positive and believing we can do this.

One of the reasons I believe Southport will go down is their fans.  They want the world and his wife OUT NOW after a defeat, the Gateshead result smiles will only last about three days.

We have to stay positive, be delighted we even have half a chance of staying up and get behind them.
