What's with the clamour for ex players, there is a vast array of coaches and managers outside of the Altyfans family. We have seen on several occasions how emotions get clouded when appointing from "within". John King was maybe given too much time before he finally left in 1998, as was Bernard Taylor in 2002 and now Graham Heathcote who nobody had the heart to say enough was enough. Any other manager would in our current position would have been hounded out several weeks ago, rightly or wrongly. McKenna, Little and Maddox were great club servants and the first two were great players but this doesn't guarantee that they will become a successful manager.

I am glad that GH realised that this situation couldnt continue, anyone that thought otherwise was just burying their head in the sand. I am slightly horrified by Grahame Rowleys comments in the M.E.N that the board hadn't even considered that a change in manager might be necessary, I think this shows who exactly was running the club. There is life after Heathcote and I look forward to the new regime whoever they may be. For the new manager to be given a chance GH should not been invited back to the club in a formal position this would only undermine the manager and put them under pressure.

Ken McKenna does deserve a chance to show what he can do in the next couple of games, however I would bet a large some of money that he becomes our next manager simply because the board won't want an outsider coming in and unsettling the current set-up. There should be a thorough interview process and the job should be offered to the top candidate, if that is McKenna then fine. Part of the distaste many had for Heathcote transpired when he effectively appointed himself manager back in 2002.

I think ballers is dead right. We shouldn't just look forward to life in BSN. We may look back on this season in 5 years time and kick ourselves for not at least having a go.

I didnt attend the meeting last night because i have attended so many and they usually turn into the Graham Heathcote show. From what I have read last night was no different, howeverit sounds like an absolute car crash. In my opinion the manager's position is untenable, I fail to understand how a player is going to be motivated by a manager that publicly slags them off and is also looking for a way out. As Ecky says from a PR perspective as well it is an own goal - how are people going to flock to watch a team even the manager has given up on? I hope no directors were present last night because if they were it clearly highlights who is in charge of the Club. This problem was created 7 years ago and although GH has had great success in charge the escape plan for boths sides was always going to be a treacherous one. Graham Heathcote needs to change his attitude soon or walk out the door. Yours a baffled Season ticket holder, Shareholder and Supporter of almost 20 years.

Whilst GH thinks that he can turn things around and is looking at shaking up the squad, I just wonder what everyone thinks will be a level of success in the short term and how long realistically he has to turn things around before the obvious change is required. Very few managers at any other club would be afforded the chance GH has been given to turn things around and I cant help think that his conversation with the directors was a one-sided one. I just wonder how long things will be left before he has no choice but to go as despite what he and many others think, there are other managers out there. I hope it doesnt come to that though and he is able to turn things around quickly.

You can't say we were lucky to sign those players we identified them and offered them deals which they accepted which is football. Apart from little who helped get us promotion the others were signed in this league which we entered deservedly through a hardworking campaign. We may have been in the right place at the right time to sign those players but to use the word lucky would be to patronise every other player, the management team and the fans.

It's a good point and I am sure the fans will rally round but the manager should be the one to get the team going, if he can't do that then...

I don't think the end of last season should have any bearing. Once we were safe the remaining games to the majority of people including the players were immaterial. However this seasons record doesn't make good reading on it's own

I don't think anyone has the energy to call for his head anymore. Even if he did deserve it it wouldn't make any difference. The mafia have got nothing on the current regime.

I think the key factor today is the attendance. If the poor run continues and attendances drop then we have a real problem as it becomes harder to change things. Fingers crossed for a good result today and that the crowd stay positive.

Altrincham FC First Team / Alty fans looking to get fit in the new year?
« on: January 09, 2010, 10:32:15 AM »
It doesn’t matter if you only play badminton socially or haven’t played since your school days, maybe you just want to get fit in the new year. Whatever your circumstance Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre needs you to get involved in Badminton England’s No Strings National Badminton Championships.

The competition is open to recreational players who have never played badminton in a league or for any club team and will take place on the weekend of 27th and 28th February 2010.

Players will be invited to play in a variety of events. The winners of each event will qualify to compete in the Regional finals for a chance to compete in the National Finals at The National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes in June where thousands of pounds worth of Carlton sports products will be up for grabs.

Entry to the tournament is £6.00 per event and application forms can be obtained from reception at The Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre or downloaded from The Badminton England website at www.badmintonengland.co.uk/nlcc

The deadline for applications is 15th January 2010. It would be great to see as many entrants as possible and even better if we could get a player at the National Finals. So what have you got to lose?

If you require any more information please do not hesitate to contact Jordan Tyms Assistant Manager Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre on 0161 436 0560 or jordan.tyms@willow-park.co.uk

I spent a horrendously cold night at The Showgrounds in March watching Sligo play Jeff Kenna and Paul Peschisolido's St Patrick's. Sligo lost 1-0. The only bonus of the night was the couple of pints of Smithwick's (my favourite) in the pub over the road from the ground. I will be making another visit on my annual trip to Sligo next March though. Come on Sligo!
